"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part; you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!" -Mario Savio
His closing advice is absolutely true, I've been doing it for most of my political life. I've been raised middle class, lived working class and underclass and my social group comes from all three groups, I've also had contact with the upper class through family. What I can say is that most of the disconnects that exist betwene ideologies are only possible becuase of the disconnects betwene *people*. Get out of your box, challenge yourself, listen to the "others" and find out *who they are*.
@iamjmb He does quite a bit of that in his books. "Deer Hunting with Jesus" is a must-read if you want to understand the current situation in the US. I couldn't put it down.

Yes, Joe was an awesome human being. Unfortunately, he passed away a few months ago from cancer. R.I.P.

Excellent Interview and Interviewer... the questions were perspicacious and well-thought out, and the answers were indeed wise and compassionate.
We do need a great deal of self reflection and self examination as a person, a class, and as a nation... Thanks so much

☼ Thanks Joe, but I'm surprised you didn't mention the right wing noise machine, to include all the corporate media that helps create the delusion! ☼
