I live in Toronto Canada, and any jetski rental place within driving distance has been closed because of the noise. Your quiet model will fill this niche.
I purchased my first Ski 6 months ago Seadoo GTX 155, its a truly amazing machine, but the noise bugs me. I drove in a Tesla Roaster 12 months ago and was left breathless. After the first week I started looking at the mod required to build an electric Ski, so great to see others are on the same wave!
please tell me what engine and voltage amperage, and what type of controller etc your using? how did you gear it? if possible--i would like to know the make of the motor, for a houseboat im building. planning on a hybrid/ or D.E. type system.
i think the only downside to this is that some people like the sound of a jet ski because i know i do, but other than that this is a great idea to get rid of emmisions
that is no way 50 mph tell you what i challange you with your big old bus all the W's conistonpowerboatrecords.co.uk be there to try and take the record off me
Just my 2 cents, but it looks REALLY heavy and there is too much weight in the front, so everytime it hits a wave, it wants to mush back down into the water. Idealy you want a jetski that will slice through the waves and glide over top of them, instead of mushing through it all. That can all be fixed just by changing the CG. just my 2 cents, but i think that would greatly improve the performance of the production model.
Well, I think its a beautiful invention. Bet the production model will be sweet. But the only bummer must be that the range is only 3 hours, But good work. Lovely.
@makemespin the range is limited by the batteries. the import fees/taxes/whatever on high mah capacity lion type batteries is insane. AND these fees are set none other than big oil... sad... BUT give it a bit, and things like this will have ranges like the Tesla Roadster...
i would love to have one, because a "refil" would cost a few euro's on electricity,
instead of about 100 euro's on a afternoon. no more gasstation, no more outragious expencive 2 stroke oil, no more rebuilt engine, no more making the oilindustry richer and richer by the day. Nah, i could live without gaspowered engines, but the the electric ones must be just as fast and with a decent
range on a charge, but i'm sure that they wil solve that in the nearby future.
btw, some say that we would need extra powerplants, if we all would drive electric cars, but thats not entirely true, because powerplants run 24/7, and at night they make more electricity than we use at night, so a part is transported to other time zones, and a part is wasted, because you can't shut a powerplant of for a few hours, and you can't store electricity, so when we charge at night, the energy plants wil run 100% efficiently, because then no electricity is wasted.
@makemespin a 3 hour range on a jetski is HUGE. Thats at least one full tank worth of gas, which is more than enough for anyone on a Lake, perhaps not those crazies that travel to islands with them in the Ocean, but 3 hours on a lake is more time than anyone will want to spend on one. I'd like to see the performance increased, even if that means a run-time of only an hour (which is plenty for a lake)
i hope that they sell these jetski's real soon, because i can live without the engine noise, and i can live with the idea that i never have to stop at the gasstation
anymore to fill the ski up and make the oil companies richer by the day.
I live in europe, and gas is about 4 times more expencive than in the usa, so we would love to see electric jetski's that are as fast as the gas powered ones.

3 Hours on a jet ski is a lot, I get bored after 1 and come in and wait and ride another hour. 50 mph is ok, but 70 mph is the fastest jet ski will ever be allowed to go. No maintenance, cheap to run and easy to use, whats not to like? Plus a lot less can go wrong with a electric motor, I see many problems with gas engines.
A good observation. If you generate electricity in a thermoelectric powerplant, what's the point? However, unlike in ordinary life, solar panels have been in use for decades at sea, and tey are not that expensive any more. Hopefully this is the case.
the Navy SEALS can use those stealthy kickass machines. for those just having fun: how about some built-in marine earthquake speakers? then you can make noise or music anyway you want.
We are interested in finding out if you would attend a sustaiable watercraft event at Lake Tahoe this summer?
We would like to see Lake Tahoe become the featured showcase for the sustainable watercraft/boating industry. It only goes to reason since the taxpayers are spending so much trying to protect the lake.
The month would include the Southshore Paddlefest and the Tahoe Na'lu sup race.
That is a neat PWC, but I could see the lack of engine noise being dangerous. There have been times when i'm riding my JetSki that i have heard other PWC's before i saw them. The range would also be a concern to me, the lake I ride on is 60 miles from Dam to the mouth of the river that feeds it, and i have several times gone the whole length and back on my Kawasaki, but had to get fuel. This would be cool for cove riding, but not offshore or tour riding. Cool idea though.
I think it's amazing how small minded the boater comunity is. They're even worse than the Automobile industry which is a good 5 years behind the technology curve on electric power. Boating is about 8 years behind the curve. They've only just started taping lithium power! With Lithium Iron Ferrite Polymer batteries the power/weight ratio is so much higher than sealed glass mat batteries that are cutting edge on the marina now. A brushless DC motor can produce far more power than a gas motor
Carrying around cans off combustable liquid and pouring them into a tank that you sit on top of is a worse idea. How is changing a battery pack a bad idea?
A new complete engine and all it's components from the manufacturer will run you around $6500... That doesn't include fuel pump, starter motor, ECU... etc. The cost of a new gas powered water craft wouldn't be much different than an electric. Electric motors are maintenance free, and can be run in lakes, rivers, and reservoirs that won't allow gas powered water craft.
I currently have a gas supercharged seadoo rxp and its great on the water but gas costs are not fun. A main issue with gasoline jet skis is the control around docks.
However even if its electric many places ban jet skies and 35+ foot boats can still enter those waters, the world just hates jet skis because of the wake they produce :(
Oh and BTW most FAST jet ski's have a have a top speed of about 63 mph, the fastest being about 73mph, so for this to be doing OVER 50mph at this early stage is VERY impressive
not only is that statement extremely general its also false. The muscle crafts of each PWC development company are around 66-69 mph stock. No jetski is over 70 from the factory due to the gentlemens agreement with the coastguard.
I can't believe how negative some people can be, here is a company that is trying to make a difference and all some people can do is criticise. @maxpesh i ride on jetski's for almost 20 years now, but i would love to have a electric one, because i can live without the noise and smell that is coming out of the the excaust pipes.

you could always add them, but it probably consumes about 6000 watts running and a solar panal setup that would fit at the right voltage might give you 10 watts and be broken easily. It might add another minute or 2 of run time, that's all.

like extra gas, you can bring some extra batteries, problem solved.
Btw, a jetski runs 1 up to 2 hours on gas if you ride on it al the time,
so it doesn't matter if you refil it with gas or some battery packs.
i hope that they soon wil come with a electric jetski that is as fast as an old

Anyway, batteries become smaller with more power, so it's just a matter
