seojnichols i didnt mean to thumb down but yes i totally agree im 14 and my dad built his tamiya clod when he was 12 so i wish i could do the same im getting one of these kits
@techno5213 It depends; the receiver and transmitter could be used for sure, as well as the throttle and steering servos ** IF ** they are the same size and approximately the same torque rating. For the battery if the t-maxx has a standard "receiver" battery pack then it should fit in the electronics box.
@saifskyline not possible ive been doing rc for years and to rebuild it completly and ive rebuilt mine at least 7 times it takes me more than 4 hours to rebuild and i know what im doing and i have a cordless drill you really cant understand how much work it is unless youve put your hands on one its a easy build but not possible in less than one hour sorry....:(
The air filters come pre-oiled. I don't remember if there was any air filter oil or bead glue; I purchased those separately before receiving my Savage and I didn't use the fluids included in the kit (there was at least some grease for the diffs and driveshafts as well as some shock oil).
awsome hmm well im so excited to kno that becuz less money for me to have to spend on supplies.... uhmm well can u send me an email of what u used like tools wise please b4 i order mine so i kno what i will need :)
ive just bought the xss kit form...cant wait to build it but im stripping my hopped up to the max savage 3.5 and building two back together at the same time putting all the expensive metal components from the 3.5 onto the xss so it will be the ultimate xss then... videos to come :).....
your vid was good and i really liked the music ! strange but in a good way
They are not too hard to build if you know how to read instructions and do a bit of research beforehand to know what does what in general.
At 3:46 I'm pumping the shocks (after filling them, but not capping them yet) to dislodge any air bubbles that may be trapped under the shock piston. After you let them sit for a while and you make sure there is no air left then you can cap them.
Very cool video. I have a Savage question: Are the 2 differentials and transmission pre-built as "modules" or do you have to assemble every last thing (spur gears, etc etc)
Very good question! The differentials are pre-built. In fact they are enclosed in the half-assembled bulkheads for protection, I guess. You must remove two screws or so to prep them (grease, etc.) before assembling the bulkheads again. The transmission is also pre-built, with only the spur gear and brakes left to install.
The music is Amon Tobin. All his music is awesome. He also made the soundtrack for Ubisoft's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory videogame. make sure to subscribe to HPISavageForum you'll find loads of info for your Savage there!
- Better parts in the kit version (pipe, spur & clutch bell, electronics since you purchase the electronics separately, different engine, better tires, etc.)
- For the fun of building it!
- You WILL have to do maintenance, repair and replace some parts if you intend to bash it (it would be a waste if not!). By building it you get to know how everything fits together very well and maintenance is a breeze instead of being a chore.
Weird.. I thought I anwered your question a few days ago but the comment isn't there... anyway:
I bought my kit at RC La Shop in Québec city, QC, Canada. Actually I ordered by phone, those guys are very nice and the prices are great (470$ CAD is very good! The closest to that price I could find in Canada is 600$).
I think your best bet is to go to some local hobby shops and check their prices and compare with eBay and other online stores. Watch the shipping though this is a big box!
nice one m8. you managed to break it in yet? i bought mine built it and now the engine is with hpi as it had persistant compression after 22 tanks it has not lost any compression. and the fuel tanks took a beating by the pull start handle whacking it everytime the egnine stalls it reels in the pull start quickly and hits the tanks..gone through 2 tanks lol they t with hpi aswell
Yep I did the break-in and the compression is OK now. I'm trying to tune it right now, it's not exactly easy even with the amount of doc I read on the subject.. I'll get it right soon I guess.
damn thats bad.. anothng thing that i found that caused it was you see the scre and nut holding on the two shocks into the mount just above the fuel tank? turn the screw around so that the allen head bit goes on the fuel tanks side and the threaded bit is facing the back of the truck,
do u put the savvy in the boot of a car? if so it rolls around more than u think and will cause the shock mounts screw to punchure the fuel tank... it sux lol i bought a new rotostart much better good luck dude
Yeah the screw is reversed there already, I did it when I assembled it. Thanks for the car advice, I'll look out for that. I think the pullstarter is OK, I've seen a lot of people dislike one or the other (RotoStart).
no prob dude and yeah i hated the roto start at first but i got fed up of the fact the pull start will always break and theres nuthin you can do about it so i reckon rotostarter has its advantages but if u can offord to keep replacing oullstarts stick with em
Yeah, I had a small problem with the clutch that took me a while to fix. I had a hard time with the shocks too. This was my first time building an RC car. It was a lot of work but it was nice!
can you pls giv me a full list of parts that you used to make the whole thing

why not buy an rtr

Why not buy a kit?
- Better parts in the kit version (pipe, spur & clutch bell, electronics since you purchase the electronics separately, different engine, better tires, etc.)

- You WILL have to do maintenance, repair and replace some parts if you intend to bash it (it would be a waste if not!). By building it you get to know how everything fits together very well and maintenance is a breeze instead of being a chore.
- Can do a custom paintjob on the body.
- etc.

You can if you want to. There are some RTR (ready to run) models which are pre-built.
