Again you touch the original and making a copy is not non-destructive photoshopping. When you make the selection you need to create a H&S adj. layer and PS will automatically create the proper mask based on the current selection.
Advantages:
- costs less space (no duplicate layer needed)
- you can always go back to adjust the selection
- you can always go back to adjust the correction
Minor advatages are the quick before/after, visal reference in your layers palette and stuff like that.
