Caprica Season 1.5 Preview

This show was too sophisticated for provincial sky and sci-fi viewers, and probably rocked the right-wing vote and sponsors with contemporary reference plus rich discussions of important near-future social, psychological, traditional and ethical dilemmas and conflicts . No wonder it was cancelled in favour of 'safe' tv programmes that favour formulaic 'good hat v bad hat' themes. Generally, people are never receptive or ready for such cerebral and emotional as the presented by Caprica.

I absolutely hate that they cancelled Caprica. Everyone seems to say "religious stuff ruined it" or "there's no good guys only villians". In case you didn't realise or forgot, BSG was based on religion aswell, it's part of the storyline. I for one liked what they did with the show, the whole V world, and showing the "ghost" in the machines if you will for the cylons.

Syfy are just money grabbers like the rest. Let's get wrestling, shit wrestling at that, for a sci-fi channel, thats what to do.

I watched the final five episodes of Caprica tonight and I liked the way the show ended. It sucks that Sci-Fi moved the show from Friday to Tuesday and then turned around and cancelled it. There is talk of another show called BSG: Blood and Chrome that is in development, but after seeing how Sci-Fi seems to piss all over Ron Moore and David Eick, why would they ever want to work with them again?

Loved this show - the concept of immortality via virtual world is fascinating. While production values are high, the overall tone is too somber. Is ther a single scene here Amanda graystone is not crying or involved in some drug/alcohol induced stupor? Too depressing too watch - had the same problem with starbucks from bsg, so self- destructive.

Lets keep with the trend in Sci-Fi tv series's, cancel good shows in the first season because the ratings dipped slightly. SGU is going to get the same treatment, everyone watches the first couple of episodes, realise it ain't about relationships and real life stuff, and go to stupid shows like Gossip Girls, Desperate Housewives, Glee etc.

I've throughily enjoyed the first season, Caprica doesn't deserve to be cacelled.

Tbh guys, the only reason I watch Caprica was because of the BSG baggage. Over the months, the show seems to degenerate into some religious crap. There were minimal references to the cylons, and I am being generous.

People may say "Look, give it time and the BSG connections will appear."

Those people may be right, but Caprica simply took too long to get there. And judging from the direction the show is going, it will be some time yet before we get there.

I liked Caprica and I'm outraged that Syfy canceled it after such a lame attempt at a second season. I've totally lost respect for that channel. It has so little to do with sci-fi and more with the occult that they should change their name to paranormal. The show wasn't perfect. I wasn't crazy abt the Tauran Mafia angle, but I enjoyed the complexities of the characters. Oh, frak!!

@lafan0 It was doomed to be canceled. The characters were unrealistic and impossible to relate with; in fact, they were absolutely hateful. It was a mediocre family drama with a high effects budget. BSG characters were plausible because they were living in a post-apocalyptic environment; applying the same traits to people living in a developed society doesn't make sense.

My only gripes with Caprica was that little Willie Adama didn't really need to be there, and the V world stuff wasn't executed well. Other than that, I think this show needed at least a season to properly define itself. I can partly blame Moore & Co for really not having a clear idea on the story they wanted to tell, but I think enough of a foundation was laid so far to explore and expand on greater themes in a second season. Syfy's handling of this show was just piss poor, flat out.

The episodes they've shown so far were kinda slow but I suppose it was necessary to set a backdrop, introduce characters, etc. Hopefully they don't screw it up. I think having a bunch of STO people in Cylon bodies will provide enough action. I'm guessing that they're moving some of the action to Gemon / Gemenon, because that's where the STO is headquartered, right ?

They had to set the tone for the entire series in the 1st season. I've heard that the short " season " is the same approach they use on FX for " Mad Men " & " Breaking Bad ", even though I haven't seen those.
