  • I really hate option selects. Partly because I think that you should have to input the attack you want to do rather than letting the game pick the best for you, and also because I suck at doing them.

  • @Setzer You do input the option select you want to do if your opponent just so happens to something on wake up besides block. You obviously will have to predict/guess what your opponent is going to do and based on your prediction, you choose your option select. If you think your opponent is going to back dash, then input option select tatsu, if you think your opponent (ex. bison) is going to wake up psycho crusher then the best option select would be EX shoryuken to counter.

  • This is pretty advanced stuff. Before you can really understand what's going on here, you need to know how to safe jump; and to understand what a safe jump is, you need to have a really good understanding of framedata...

  • @JCrest87 in the video if rufus hadnt done a wakeup reversal then rufus would have blocked ryu's kick (or got hit if he wasnt blocking e.t.c) and ryu's dragon punch wouldnt have come out - that is the option select. thus option select chooses the best action for your character depending on what oponent does as obviously if he blocks you dont want your shoryuken to come out coz then you get countered.

  • @JCrest87 opponent has been knockdown as they get up you do a jump in normal. timing it to hit them at the same time their shoryuken would start up. after pressing your normal you do the input and button press for your shoryuken.

  • he put an input in with ryu where the game makes decisions for him. If ryu jumps in and you block with rufus , the the jumping attack hits and you're in a little bit of blockstun (Shoryuken won't come out) . When he (Rufus) to escape with ex messiah (this input works with backdashes too i believe), then the jumping attack won't come out at all and a dragon punch with come out instead.

  • So, basically, I jump+dp strong version, and if the opponent blocks, fierce comes out, and if opponent pulls out any move, DP will come out?

  • @p0ncho, yes for the first part, yes for the second part, but some characters have escapes for this with meter or just blocking (SilverMan486's comment).

    You don't actually play the game, you program the controller into thinking for you.

  • @Virtualwallvirus He's doing a dragon punch input with just the right timing. If the opponent blocks the jumping punch, then the dragon punch doesn't come out. If the opponent doesn't block and the jumping punch whiffs, then a dragon punch comes out.

  • @Virtualwallvirus jump in and do a motion for dragon punch in air, but instead of hitting just FP hit FK as as well. So to repeat, jump in and go Foward, Down, Forward + FP +FK. If the Kick connects thats the end of the option select. If the kick wiffs and the player tries to move out of the way it will do a DP.

  • Getting back up right after the sweep will prevent his safe jump attempt.

  • @BluntedNinjah RIght, I meant to say you can avoid the safe jump attempt by recovering right when you hit the ground when you get knockdown unless it's a throw, sweep, or ultra.

  • I really really like this vid. I just watched season's beatings and really appreciate how much this helps in pro fights. I love the auto correct in :24 as well since i could only assume the cross up version works the same way without that. I'm really interested in all the different option select items there are for ryu (well ryu since he seems straight forward :D ) clearly i'm n00b :D

  • against ryu with meter your best option is to block safe jump ins, pretty interesting

  • ex SRK may catch backdash, but either way, ex srk is coming out if ryu doesn't hit with the the jump in.

    Or, he can switch to tatsu option select, which will hit the backdash as well.

    "one can always block" is mostly wrong if he blocks the upper doesn't come out and he can do a block string or tick throw setup or low shorts into jump crossup or low short wait uppercut fadc uppercut ,

    Ryu folks have been (ab)using this since the game came out on consoles Feb 2009.

    The Shoryuken move has high priority. It gets even more powerful due to lag. I guess Capcom developers love these Shotokan caharcters like Ryu, Ken etc.
