This makes me sad... not just Maddie and David together, but all the laughs and tears this gave to me. I'm definitley gonna miss them. ;.( R.I.P. Moonlighting
I for one, like the ending. I still have a VHS somewhere in my parents' basement. The ending pointed out that romances don't always end the way we want them to end. It touched upon the elements of TV romance (Sy) as well as real-life love (priest). At a time when TV shows rush to get the leads into bed, the idea that you can wait almost 3 seasons is amazing, both for the creators of the show and those of us who watched it.
this show was the best of Bruce Willis and Cybil Sherpherd... loved them together,. there has never been another show like this one.. it's like "the thin man " w/myna loy and william powell... two people w/the right chemistry..
yeah the last 2 seasons were a little weird, but after watching clips on here they weren't as bad as i remember. still ranks for me as my #1 show ever by a mile. no show made me laugh, cry or broke my heart more!!!!!
I liked the end but really really wanted them to end up together. When I was a kid this was my favorite show and them not ending the show with them together is just terrible. Almost makes me teary.
The ending is clever but it makes me sad they didnt keep them as a couple :( One of the best couples ever along with Doug and Carol on ER and Brenda with Sonny/Jax on GH.
No other TV series had stired my heart like this before!!! When I watch it over and over, it reminds me memories of innocent times!!! I need it so much in my everyday life!!!
Strictly for the sake of trivia, and for those who don't know, Sy was actually played by Dennis Dugan, who played Walter Bishop in the previous season. He also directed this final episode, although he was credited as his character's name, "Walter Bishop."
To all those complaining abt the ending : ur nuts.
I think this was the most perfect ending EVER, reminding us it was just a show gotten cancelled like everyone else. THIS way its like they jumped into some kind of immortality demension. I'd have hated it if they had some kind of corny ending. Dave 'n' Maddie didn't deserve such.
I disagree with most opinions about the finale. Yeah, this is a very sad ending. In all TV shows, you get the standard happy ending. Moonlighting is one of the best shows of all times and the end was simply awesome. I still get sad when I see it. I saw the ending when was original aired on my country, and I remember I cried. I love this show. But this is one of the best endings for a TV Show or a movie I saw in my life. Or maybe the best one. The writers did it. A unforgettable ending.
I love love love this show. Too bad that I was born in the 90's so I couldn't watch it, but thanks for re-runs and DVD's:)
I liked all the breaking the 4th wall things like the little comments "he hates when I get the good jokes" adn how Al wasn't there to perform the theme or Emmy nomination etc. but same was with season 2 finale. these are a bit too much. I would of liked to see an actual conclusion to the serie instead of just making it a joke. Oh well, maybe someday we can get a movie:)
My feelingz were so hurt when this ended, it was 2 weeks shy of my 16th birthday. I really haven't watch another tv show since like I did ML, it should've ended on a much lighter and happier note....que sara sara
I agree. This was a horrible and disrespectful way of ending what could have been the best romance in tv history. Whoever decided to end it like this ... the writers, etc were just horrible to do that.
the cancellation of this and miami vice in the same month (may 1989) was one of the worst moments of my childhood.....chris is right...you'll NEVER see tv like this again...this show epitomized the 1980s...sexy,witty,a little vain, a little neurotic,a little nostalgic, a little romantic. it had it all...i don't care what critics say...any list of the top 10 shows in history without moonlighting on it isn't worth the paper it's written on. PERIOD.
Still breaks my heart to see how such a fabulous, ground-breaking show ended so badly. Even though it went out with a whimper, this will always be one of my favorite shows of all time.
There will NEVER be a show like Moonlighting. This is show was the foundation of Television today...I was so saddened at the cancellation as well years ago, but seeing it now it's not too bad, and I have a better understanding abou it. It will always will be one of my favorite shows to watch! Thanks so much for the post.
Loved the show! I understand it better now, especially the last 2 seasons. One of the best shows of the 80's. Very sharp comedy. Always wanted to be like David Addison. I still believe that my romantic side comes from watching David when i was a young boy.
I agree. I understand the last two seasons better myself now that I'm older. I understand all of the choices and empathize much more with both characters now.
A little bit of me died...along with the eighties and with the cancellation of this. A show like this could NEVER exist today. It's too sharp. Most of the television audience is below a 4th grade level. This doesn't mean I don't respect the fouth graders. I watch the DVD's over and over.
LOVED this show but I found the ending insulting and condescending. Felt that the creators and writers were laughing at the audience for caring about the characters in teh first place.
Oh, no wonder I didn't watch it. I was also mad by then like Sy was saying about the romance fizzling. I still love this show though. It'd be a good DVD set to have.
This makes me sad... not just Maddie and David together, but all the laughs and tears this gave to me. I'm definitley gonna miss them. ;.( R.I.P. Moonlighting

I remember watching this show when I was a kid, this is the best show ever!
Their chemestry was undeniable...
And I think this was a great ending.
I liked it because they made fun of the fact that the show was being cancelled... that's very original!
The only sad thing is that the show was actually cancelled!

this show was about bruce&cybil, the sexual tension between them and their personal carisma.
i was born in 1982 and when i was a kid a saw the show, but in that time i was unable to read and understand the all thing.
i see the scenes again and now realise that this show was realy something!
no doubt that this show is one of the greatest of all time.

Well...1st of all I'm sad about this show ended like this way.
2nd I never like that Cybill bitch ruin Bruce's life. Thank God now Bruce is on the top of the mountain...
And recently I read Bruce is trying to find Hollywood producers to make a movie about the ML show. He said that he would like to be David Addison.
I can't imagine a bald David Addison in my mind =(
