  • thank you sooooo much for putting the sheet music!

  • Man eu sou seu fã, eu queria tomar aula com você ó.ò

  • can u post videos teaching how to play this? i want to play it for my spring concert!! XD

  • Hahaha Love The Face Expressions! :3

  • awesome (:

  • the down-beat of every measure should be accented not the first one(especially at 0:13) .. just to let you know. it would sound a lot greater. i mean it sounds good, but you can always get better.

  • w00t! 30 000th viewer!!

This is amazing by the way! :)

  • Nice job!

  • awesome!!! also, the sound of your cello is absolutely incredible... more plz!!! P.S. thanks for the sheet music

  • haha its a tough piece. im a pretty advance cellist (like 11 years since i started) and its pretty difficult. you might want to try to speed it up a bit, but still i couldnt of done much better.

  • you teach my brother!!! :0 cool song btw...

  • ive been working on this song myself for a while. its quite difficult. anytips?

  • i love watching you play. you look like you really enjoy it, and like you are really having fun!! especially at 2:00... :)

    this is really inspiring!

  • I would not hesitate to admit that your readings of pieces, and your general style of playing, trumps Yo-Yo Ma...what I thought to be the pinnacle cellist. Your reading of this is particularly inspiring.

  • I have loved this piece for so long! Thank you for bringing its wonderfulness to YouTube. You did a terrific job.

  • i love it

  • hm, your technique is pretty good, but the whole piece sounds kind of stiff; it doesn't flow quite like it should.

  • it seems like he is read playing the piece

  • @vgcellomusic i agree this video is nice but i think that it would have sounded better with more flow more legato

  • awesome.

    where did you study?

  • My favorite cello song ever! haha

Your tone was absolutely perfect. My favorite part was the cadenza. I think the entire piece in general was a little bit slow though. Great job.

  • Smashing.

  • it's really good! but i have a suggestion if you're willing to take it?

i think for the main melody, you should make it less stacatto and a little more legato. that would really add to the piece, i think, and give it a better attitude

  • i actually like the little bits of stacatto. gives the song a bit more balance, seeing as there is already more than enough sliding and legato

  • where did you find the parts man , I dont find it !!!!

  • This is called Transposition man ;)

  • This piece is very moving, and with each new person who plays it, they add a new interpretation. You played sections slower, and picked up pace at very good places. I think that you did an excellent job.

  • yo, get off of him. this was his interpretation, it sounded fine. Intonation wise, this is the best i've heard of this piece. rock on, bud.

  • it was precise, just needs to flow a bit more

    good work

  • hey u are super great i love u

  • OH MY GOSH YOUR AMAZING! I escpecially love your bow grip! Your the cello einstein!!!

  • too stiff and slow. u need to relax and have fun with it and make the piece urs

  • Well played!

I need to the sheet music to this. This is one of those things you need to know how to play on the cello like the Prelude to the Cello Suite No. 1

  • i liked the bow style actually.

i had a rehearsal today and one of the cellist did a really good job playing this today

  • I did not like the interpretation at all, it was too slow. The sound was okay, but the technique was absolutely terrible. Your bowing needs to be a lot more controlled. VERY far from being as excellent as Mark Summer

  • ... wow! i ordered this but just wow the style u have...

  • There's no substitute for a finely bowed cello. It makes me want to weep, and I don't know why.

  • insane! great job!

  • absolutely amazing. This music brings me calm and peacefulness.

  • What an exciting performance! I will probably record this song soon, as well. Great job!

  • fingers a little tight on the C but great job i loved it

  • We think your version is stupendous. It's a real inspiration for my young cellist. You play it with a lot of soul and a great touch. We love it and watch it over and over again. Thanks for posting!

  • a bit too precise and slow for my liking. If you've heard the original by Mark Summer of the Turtle Island String Quartet Album from the 80s, it's a bit looser and more fun. Good job, though.

  • very enjoyable -especially as one

  • is that a full size?

  • Freaking amazing, dude. Amazing. It makes me feel like shit for giving up my chello lesson all those years ago!

  • "chello" --- FAIL

  • Very Good!!!!! DAMN GOOD!!

  • OMG that sounds so pretty!!!...

i wish i could do something like that!!..

    Playerette_313

  • i love how rich the sound is in this piece!

  • Wow! You are amazing! I hope I become as skilled as you are in playing the cello.

  • I was looking for examples of how a solo cello sounds, and this showed me a lot of the various things you can do with it! Thanks a lot for this video!

  • Did you spam this damn video on every cello related clip on youtube?

The smiles only make it more annoying.

  • Pretty good but on a piece like this you really should try to pizz like a jass bass player. It really is a much more expressive to pizz than the classical approach. Also, memorize it. Sheet music is for learning not for playing.

  • Unless he plays many many different pieces. You only have time to memorize so many. Some you just play for fun and have no time to memorize.

  • LEGENDARY!

  • brilliant effort! but from the listner's point of view it does get a little out of tune at several points. especially from 1:39-2:24.

  • ahh i want to learn this song on my cello.

  • Gosh we love listening to you play this! We just played it three times over a lovely lunch. Thanks!

  • What a great performance of such a challenging song. Well done, my fellow cellist, but you have room for improvement. No worries--it sounded awesome, just needs a bit of touching up! :)

  • Wow. This song inspired me to get a cello. lol. Im serious.

  • I think that there is still room for improvment. It really helps when you read the inside of the little booklet for this piece. The song sounds so much better (imo) when you actually do the ghosting. It is when the notes are in parenthasies. All you do is make a quick downbow, and it adds a lot of effect. Other than that, it was good.

  • btw you can get the music by typing in mark summer julie-O in google, and clicking on the 9th link down

  • by far the best version i've heard on youtube...

  • Where did you get sheet music for Julie-O? I have been unable to find it!

  • Your video recording skills sukcs but your music skills are amazing!

  • Wow, thanks for introducing us to a modern amazing piece like this. Bravo!

  • Very nice!

  • wicked, say i'm trying to learn the cello thisummer is it difficult to learn? thanx! great job!

  • I have been playing cello for 11 years now and this piece is still wicked hard for me so i don't think you could do it just quite yet.

    CM

  • mmmm this is wonderful. I have to say I have heard many renditions of this but this one is by far my favorite. It is so sweet and passionate. I am from Nova Scotia in Canada and this feels like home to me.

Do you have a recording of this by any chance?

  • i dont care what other people say, i think you did the song very nicely, and it sounded very and i mean VERY good!!! ^_^

  • woh! i dont know what ur problem is, but that was just constructive critism. i dont think u should be using that language on a comments & responses section. i dont think the owners of Youtube would like that

  • im better than u too

  • this is really horribly played. awesome song, when its played with feeling, not this tequnical stuff

  • this is really really good... i myself am a viola player and i have never heard this song before untill my friend played it... this is so amazing.. keep up the good work!!!! god bless!!!

  • wow, you're really good. Maybe someday I could play like that. But, I just started playing the cello last year and I'm already the top celloist in my class.

  • this needs a lot of work

  • shut up billy....ps you have red hair

    ...firecrotch

  • wow, very good, I really enjoyed that. Thanks for sharing!

  • I don't play Cello, and haven't played Violin in many years.

Taken with that grain of salt, you seem to cut a lot of the notes shorter than you hear them in most versions. Have you heard this piece performed by Turtle Island? This almost seems like you were going off the sheet music without knowing the feeling that is usually put behind certain parts.

    Overall, nice job.

  • wow, neat..I too am a Cello player..is there any sheet music to that solo?

  • Very neat!! I love seeing folk music on cello... I just wanted to say thanks in general for all the neat videos you've posted (specifically this & the improv-a-blogs) ... it's great to see someone doing such creative stuff w/ the cello!!

  • Great job!

  • Hi do you have the sheets for this song? If not, maybe a mp3-file? it's so stressing to always have to turn on the computer to learn a new piece.

Very good performance. As you have understood, i'm learning this piece by this vid. If you want to hear something by me, you can search on Orseth

  • hi omega,

After seeing this video, I did some searching and was able to order the music from cellos2go.com. Go to their music section and search under title for "Julie-O". The original is not quite the same as AlamoCityCello plays it, but i think we can make changes where we like with this kind of music!

  • Amazing - have just started learning cello myself and I really had no idea such versatile sounds and music could be made with it. Wow :)

  • HMM. I will try, but I'm a student without even a webcam!

  • Sounds great. Where could I find the music for it?

  • you smile at the end! Thank you! Nobody ever smiles at the end of a peice (at least where I live/play in an orchestra) You should smile too, fantastic job.

  • Hey, that was awesome, i loved the pizz.

Oh, can u play saint saens, thats what im working on right now and it would really help if i can see someone play it well. thanks so much..

  • Thanks, I'm a fan of ur vids 2!

  • Great job! I love your videos! Thanks...

  • Fantastic job! May you play the 1st Mvmnt of the Elgar? Thanks
