I just got mine. I love it =) Very quiet and doesn't heat up like most laptops (that's where the bulkyness plays its part). Love the Illuminated keyboard with separate NUM pad (helps alot for me). Great sounding speakers with a subwoofer (that's why it's so heavy). Battery life sucks (about 1 hr 15 min) However if you turn off all lighting you could get double batt life (2 1/2 hrs). This is a perfect desktop replacement/LAN party machine.

sorry he has a plain gtx 280 not the mobile series. typo on my end. he has very nice stuff, we get good discounts. Mines just better. He wouldve spent around 2k+ but the discounts saved him over a grand. EVGA mobo 209. Ram is GSKILL storm or w/e and a zalman water cooling system. He's a IT so he has his stuff 2gether. my laptop is just simply put, better. i can play crysis at 63 degrees C. he hits about 70-75c. Its just a fact laptops are going to take over pc's. mobile power is growing faster.

K i only paid 1300 for almost fully pimped out m17x cuz of buisness discounts. my friend made a PC at the same time for 1,100$ with a i7 processor 6gb 1600mhz ram and a GTX 280m graphics card. His is even water cooled and mine still runs cooler. I havent yet came across a pc personally thats got my laptop beat. i know they are there im not stupid, but this laptop was a big step for technology. im running 3.4ghz processor 8gb ram dual 280m's my laptop lasts 2x as long as his on any stability test

His RAM must have terrible timings and most likely an off-brand, his motherboard must be pretty bad with no overclocking capabilities, his hard drives are likely under 7200rpms, especially if he got WC and was still under $1,100.

i own one. it is the best out there. they couldnt say its the best if it wasnt. they would be sued for false advertisement. asus most powerful compared to this is a 4 out of 10 from programmer ratings. the capabilities for the m17x can blow a pc away. yes the parts are expensive but u get the alienware name behind you AND you can always upgrade it urself for much cheaper.

well of course not just anyone can air a commercial for them. and no1 ever would w.o a.w. permission. anytime you see airtime for a.w. its legit and paid for. no other laptop has these capabilities and stability. asus, hp, stealthpc's nothin can handle what this can. sure others can have more ram or w.e but couldnt support nearly the amount of power this one can produce. other companies also agree its the best laptop ever produced.

umm doesnt look like u knw alot about laptops but just the stock alienare m17x is good enough for 1800 just change the hard drive to 320GB 7,200RPM stock is 250GB 7,200RPM u dont have to add the extra 70 gbs its up to u just stock is fine only thing i recommend u changing it the lcd to 17-inch WideUXGA 1920x1200 (1200p) . and ur alll good. it wont be The best but it will get u good game play.

Not to mention the updates, upgrades and comparison with other more powerful laptops 5 yrs from now. Is 3k-5k laptop worth it in 3-5 yrs? Plus some laptops are almost fixed on hardware upgrades unlike desktops which some build their own. Prices go down instantaneously over the years. Debatable indeed, I can't recommend anything it's like buying a house you want to see the equity build up in the long run and practical. Don't get me wrong I want to get my hands on this but I settled for a 1530 with decent specs and a MAC at work. Talent on the other hand is free-evolving. But for those who have resources (money) why not. I can't see any lappy more powerful than the alienware.
