I've been playing this song 0:08 in my head for like 20 years.. it was that impressive
When i first heard it i thought it was "Gobots, Gobots, Gobots, Gobots, Gobots, I need Gobots, I need vehicles, Gobots!" My buddy said I Need is actually Mighty
Cool. I have a lead on the figure that may be a good deal(depends on the pics I asked for). I have some Go-Bot pieces, plenty of ZODS, but I think this piece will stand out nice on my vintage shelves.
The "Gobots" toys were around before the "Transformers" toys, and the Gobots cartoon aired first also. The marketing for Gobots was rushed, which is why they didn't have the lasting power of the Transformers, which had great fiction backing it up, ie comics & a great (better than Gobots anyway) cartoon.
As for the actual toys, the Gobots generally were smaller & simpler than their Transformers counterparts, but so-what, they had their own charm & often had better looking modes to boot.
@CelesteK That line still came first, and it was under production before GoBots were, Hasbro had to set up a Cartoon and a comic book to go with the line here in North America and in the UK, otherwise the line would have flopped like GoBots did.
The toys that became the orginal Transformers line, Microman and Diaclone, came out first (1974 and 1980) at least in Japan. Gobots came out first in the US, and now Gobots and Transformers are owned by the same company but the molds and orginal character designs for the Gobots are still owned by Bandai so there's little chance the orignal Leader-1 and Cy-kill will be sporting Autobot and Decepticon Logos anytime soom but there have been Transformer based Gobot lines
@snakes3425 But I'm not talking about Japan. I'm talking about North America and if I recall correctly the first Gobot toys came out in January 1984. Before the Transformers did.
Point I'm trying to make is that both Transformers and Gobots originated in Japan. North America didn't see Gobots or Transformers until 1983-84, yes Gobots did come out first after it was imported under that brand however the Microman and Diaclone lines (which became Transformers) were released in Japan under those names in 1974 and 1980, Machine Robo, which became Gobots didn't come out in Japan until 1982, the desire to be first is partly to blame for the rush job the Gobots got
The rush job I'm talking about is the weak advertizing campaign, lack of detail, forgetful names, lackluster TV Show, and overly simplistic transformations the Gobots recieved upon their release here in the US
I admit I liked Go-Bots alot when I was young before Tranformers got a hold of my attention! As the Go-bots popularity began to fade, I recall being able to get them for 99 cents at the locla Piggly Wiggly. That's how I built my collection! The Monster Go bots were my favorite!
I always thought he was the same voice actor that did Bumblebee in G1. Since the first time I saw that comercial. He sounds so much like him. He also did Spiderman in the eighties cartoon Spiderman and his Amazing friends along with Slipstream in the G.I. Joe 80's cartoon. He also used the same Bumblebee voice for them.
i don't remember exactly the name, but yeah i guess it is leader-1 , i'm 21 years old so i think is my oncle who gave me this toys long time ago...i was in the Gi-Joe,Trasnformes tiem...not go Bots
@beyondthesevoices That's Pathfinder.

Every time I used to watch this commercial I used to think about Big Lots/Odd Lots.

That was a really bad ad jingle. Talk about lacking creativity. And I'm a Go-Bots fan.

I like to think that the time it took them to right the GoBots theme is how long it was around.

Whos the silver guy with the head guns?
daveh013 6 months ago
@daveh013 That's Baron Von Joy. Affectionately known to the Guardians as "Professor Von Joy."
CelesteK 5 months ago
@CelesteK I always though that Baron Von Joy was one of the smaller roadsters. Learn something new everyday. Thanks for the information.
daveh013 5 months ago
@daveh013 I know that I saw Psycho, Zeemon, Destroyer, and Bug Bite in there too. :) You're welcome. I'm always happy to help. :)

I had Leader 1, its wings wore out and wouldn't stay extended after a little while. Definitely cheaper quality compared to the Transformers.

go-bots....for kids that couldn't afford Transformers
gopconservative78 1 year ago
They appear to be mighty awful knockoffs to me. Can I turn them into cash for Transformers?
WebVMan 1 year ago
@WebVMan Probably. Thing is they came out with these before Transformers.
GESSO217 11 months ago 2
@WebVMan I think that you've got that backwards. Gobots came out in North America an entire 8 months and 9 days before Transformers did. :)

@CelesteK MicroChange came out before MachineRobo, just saying
Andulvar 8 months ago
@Andulvar I'm just saying the way that it happened in Japan isn't the way that it happened in North America. :)

Whoever came up with that theme song was a genius!
Go-bots. Go-bots. Go-bots. Go-bots.
Almost as ingenious as "Hot Pockets"

Go Bots rules because they were much smaller and easier to sneak into class when you were in school. Kept me entertained.
