my uncle Danny Gardella was a player for the New York Giants and was the person that made baseball what it is today with all the big salaries .................
@eecortese: very nicely put! Appreciate reading your comment very much. Thanks for putting into words what I couldn't have. Happy New Year to you & yours!
This song covers the entire gamut of musical influences, from the pastoral introduction reminiscent of Frishberg's boyhood home of Minnesota to the chorus evocative of the beaches of Ipanema and Copacabana. Funny, Hal Trosky at 1:12 is looking a lot like Bob Feller. The later image at 2:06 is the real Hal Trosky.
bye bye footsball--pitchers & catchers is just around the bend. Let's go Mets.

At 1:13, the first mention of Hal Trosky has a picture of a young Bob Feller.

Thanks for posting my favorite of all baseball songs.
First heard it years ago when played on WNEW radio by music host Jonathan Schwartz.
Frishberg's words and music reminds me of lost youth, innocence, and what the anticipation of baseball can do for a boy in the early spring.

Great job digging up all the images of the players.
But
First Hal Trosky image is Bob Feller.
