@bottleforty1 It's always good to hear comments from someone who hears the way you do. A wise man once told me, "Play to express, not to impress." Bill understood that from the beginning....
is this on jazzfusion.tv or what? I have the anthology with a live bass folk song (incredible take, track it down for sure) with this same band. Gadd and Mingo together in this band added a huge funk to the sound that seemed to take a little more effort in the mid 70s RTF records
yes, you're correct - i pulled this from jazzfusion.tv (where most of this stuff can be had), although i don't recall which show. it sure is a great cut - connors is so awesome.
that's Mingo Lewis on congas. awesome version of RTF w Stanley still doing mostly acoustic and Billy stepping out as probably THE best fusion guitarist of the time in terms of really adding TRUE hard rock vibe, which Larry and John were a little too intellectual of players to do. ..IMO
bobanbu - thanks. mingo lewis it is. i'll go ahead and make that change in the info box. and i agree with you on connors. he was head and shoulders above dimeola - whose electric guitar solos (and compositions for that matter) i always thought were a bit juvenile).
Sounds to me like Conners is basically playing licks like McLaughlin did on "Inner Mounting Flame" so I don't see how you could say he's better than who he is copying.
Worth a WHOLE LOT more than a listen !!!

I liked Bill Connors in the band because he played with lots of feeling. Al has lots of chops, but his solos sounds like he practicing.

Bill Connors was a stand alone. No one sounded like him. His solos came from nowhere and always unexpected. A true original.
