  • Thanks. relaxing is nice

  • I'm sick of all the reverence for Bob Dylan. Yeah he's awesome. A genius of a songwriter. He changed American music. But so did a lot of other people. Comparing them is a waste of time. Just enjoy what they created.

  • @sherman024 well said friend.

  • Slip sliding away...

  • Nice !

  • This man is a true poet... the lyrics for this song are un-be-lie-va-ble

  • ray:(

  • Lol, damit ray

  • RAY!!!

  • rwj sent me here

I do not speak English, but when I hear this song I think of how precious it is, I always like.

  • Great song.....

  • Best song writer of the century. Bar none.

  • Story of my life.

  • he looks so old, but his voice stay the same :D

  • 17 people must be slip slidin' away!

  • Probably the finest songwriter of the past 50 years...on a par with Cole Porter and Irving Berlin

  • A poet in the same league as Tom Waits to me, both painting life with their songs and always touching my heart.

  • wish i could sing like him, oh well. i'll just appreciate the beauty in his voice!

  • Steve gadd ftw

  • "He wore his passion for his woman like a thorny crown" :)

  • This song reminds me of my ex wife. Her middle name was Delores and she cheated on me with both a Paul and a Simon. I wish i was joking. I won't let her rob me the joy this man's music gives me though. I put this song on when I work out in the morning and it inspires me to get buff for Christmas so I can find a new woman and rub her nose in it.

  • @wesleyhenryhead one of my ex's had both a first and a 3rd wife with the same first name as me, and the other ex legally changed his name and stole my middle name!!! ...should we meet? ... or should they?? LOL jk but having a good laugh

  • @acherrysherry Yes we should probably meet yes, I am quite a lonely man I make no bones about it. I have my dating profile you can check me out on. If you google Wesley Henry Dateat8 it should show up. I await your response, please be kind.

  • @wesleyhenryhead oh and happy birthday. are you a virgo?

  • @wesleyhenryhead revenge dating never works sweetie- it's not fair to the new gal (or man) for one thing. heh. i just saw this in my email hence the late new comment :)

  • no other artist has been to touch me half as much as paul simon does. what a genius. thank you, paul, for everything.

  • holy shit i played air guitar to this song when i was in the car with my mother taking me to school first grade i think. and now pushing 40. just like yesterday.

  • @mikep4406 Ha! That's a great memory.

  • Legend will be playing at Istanbul on July 19th. Can't wait for him......

  • Erm, Snoop Dogg on the shaker a 2:58 ???

    Beautiful, bitttersweet tune.

  • 2:28 to 3:00 always brings a tear to my eye

  • Went to see him in AC on Satuday, what a wonderful time! He is a great artist!! Sounds and plays like he did 20 yrs ago.

  • paul simon is one of the best song writers of all time

  • Paul is the greatest unasked for gift of my lifetime. Forever grateful.

  • When I was a kid my dad would play Simon and Garfunkel music in the car on road trips. I've always loved this music.

  • Still the voice of a twenty year old .... respect!

  • 1:14 - i want those burns!

  • Delicious for me but I think there may be a fuck off city kid thing happenning

    nicely though good kids

  • Yes Paul Simon is sort of a variation of Dylan. One heck of a great songwriter I always admired. I once read me writes pages/pages of lyrics and then he goes through them and narrows them down into a final song.

  • this performance was great!

  • Hmmm,MMMmm,mmmm I love this song!

  • i wanna download this album again in downloadmusic .im

  • Paul simon was the reason I took up guitar!!

  • @MasterMuscle100 Me too! <3

  • Gorgeous tune :)

  • Thank you Mr Simon !

  • America ,,,,,,,, please don't let this happen to US ,slip slide and away : {

  • Awesome song. I remember one day both my girlfriend and I arrived home from work completely stressed out. Just to get our minds elsewhere I put on this song. it soothed us immensely. Put things back in perspective. At the end, we were both calmed down and had a wonderful evening together. I know of no other artist that could have had the same effect. Thanks, Mr. Simon, you are an inspiration.

  • @1234pjotr Nice one :)

  • Driving home from work. Probably shouldn't be online.

  • I still know that "Man."

He was down, but he's been very well for oh so long.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • talent I have been lucky enough to enjoy for many years.......well, not THAT MANY years. lol

  • i always croon this intro when i get stuck

  • wonderful poet and musician. So inspiring. Thank you Mr Simon.

  • Thankyou for posting and keeping it up.

  • God only knows

    God makes his plan

    The information's unavailable

    To the mortal man

    We work our jobs

    Collect our pay

Believe we're gliding down the highway

When in fact we're slip slidin' away

(the song was prophetic in its ways)

  • A poet on par with Dylan, but easier to understand.

  • @RETRO714 I love both of them (Dylan and Simon). But I slightly prefer Paul Simon because his lyrics are very visual. I am artistic which explains my preference for Simon.

  • @RETRO714 Love both. At Paul, more poetry, more melodicity, and an incredible, unique like honey voice. At Bob, more energy, more vital, more protest.

  • @RETRO714 Simon is to Paul McCartney as Dylan is to John Lennon as Fire is to Ice.

  • @RETRO714 i'd put him ahead of Dylan. and no i'm not smoking anything. not now at least...

  • @backroads523 I agree wholeheartedly. Paul is an absolute musical genius. Dylan became a folk hero of the times. No comparison talent-wise in my opinion.

  • @RETRO714 yeah and at least he can sing, not like dylan. (respect to dylan, but its only the truth)

  • @RETRO714 Don't get me wrong; Mr. Simon is worthy of respect; That stated, NOBODY can ever equal Bob Dylan. Always believe that!

  • @kja427 Joni Mitchell equals Bob Dylan.

  • Thank you for the poetry from your soul, Paul. You spoke to three generations of people, and your message is as poignant today as it was then. God bless you and keep you.

  • God bless paul simon and steve gadd...

  • The man is a poet.

  • My soul thanks all the artists who put their soul into the music they create.

  • I was 10 years old (1989) when I watched the Graduate....I sneeked down to the living room after my folks had gone to bed to watch the 'sex' scenes...hahaha!!

However, the music just blew me away!!! I didn't know who it was...but I was in love with it!! Since then I have been an ardent fan of Simon and Garfunkel! I have seen Paul Simon twice in concert - Edinburgh Castle and SECC, Glasgow - and I have watched their Concert In Central Park about 800 times...used to watch it twice a day!

  • His music never gets old.

  • great paul greaaaaat ty ty for sharing

  • Love it :) Thank you !

  • i wish i could hear this song on the album version of this instead of Live.

  • @curvy71 go buy the damn album then!!

  • @jabrother i haven't seen the c.d. so there.

  • @curvy71 OK, you bring up a good point! This song wasn't released originally on any of his traditional albums. It was released on the "Greatest Hits, Etc" album, which is out of print, however the followup "Negotiations & Love Songs" would probably be the one to get since it contains the original studio recording, if that's what you're after!

  • @jabrother ok thanks for the information.

  • WOW

  • this is how our life happen every day great and true song by the most talented musician of the 20th century

  • Man has he gotten old! Will happen to us all I know ; -()

  • Yes.. it is all true... and I love you...

  • Awesome song! Thanks!

  • wow, love the suspended sound of this version.

  • Paul, you sound great! Keep it up, we love your music!

  • I love this song.

  • "A good day, ain't got no rain". " A bad day, is when I lie in bed and think of things that might have been." Slip sliding away, slip sliding away, the near your destination the more your slip sliding away. Good words.

  • luv it so pretty and sad

  • I agree Creome....its my fav too...what a great live verson...u can see all of the feeling ...and ty u much too for posting:-)

  • I was 15 and living in rural Mississippi when this hit the air. I would spend hours twisting the AM dial to hear it. It's haunted me my entire life. The man's a genius.

  • Studio version hit #4 AC, #5 pop in Billboard. Oak Ridge Boys sang backin' vocals. God bless!

  • So beautiful. I know I keep posting about this video but I cant help it. Its just to cool not to comment on.

  • this song never fails to give me chills

  • i think this is the saddest song ever written. it just feels like a punch in the stomach and makes me cry every time.

  • You are jus so right...still it´s incredibly beautiful<3

  • I agree friend. This is a sad song. Another song I like ( however get slack from other you-tube users ) is The sea and the rhythm by Iron and Wine.

  • this is something pretty special as is all his music cant wait to see him in May

  • 1 of the coolest songs any of us will ever be graced to listen to.

    Doesn't paul seem sad here?

  • I got my love for Paul Simon and other 70 's music from my Mom and Dad. I was just a little girl then. God bless them! : )

  • @tamelamiles me too...them, Alabama, CSNY, Jackson Browne, Gordon Lightfoot...

    great memories

  • @tamelamiles: Me too, fun to hear it now- brings back Many memories- a child of the 70's!

  • @tamelamiles I got mine from from my mother. These boy and Zager and Evens may have had it spot on.

  • Paul has written so many of the greatest songs that I've ever heard This is one of them. I remember buying this when it came out (1977? 1978?) and I could not stop playing it for weeks. The other side was 'Stranded In A Limousine" which was also brilliant. That was a perfect double A-side single - for those of us who remember gramophone records!

    *cough, cough*

  • I remember seeing Mr. Simon moving about the Guitar Study Center, CPE,

    NYC, about 30 years ago.

    What inspiration!...and I'm

still playing after all these years.

Thank you for the post & memory!

  • I'm 48 now. Loved listening to this song for over 20years. The part where he says he came a long way just to explain, kissed his boy as he lay sleeping and headed home again. My son was born in 1998. And to think I did just that in 2005! Can't begin to describe just how i felt then, not only for myself but more importantly for my son coz I meant the world to him. Sadly his mum was possibly the most irrational, selfish person ever. Perhaps it was a premonition of things to come.....

  • the sentiment and thought that goes into tht line always chokes me up and the thought of going through that with my son fills me with dread my heart goes out to you

  • Thank you very much for your concern. Me and my boy are ok now but we lost his critical childhood together which cannot be retrieved.

We have many things in common now and chief among them is our shared passion for music. Cheers my friend.

  • This was such a lovely thing to read-so heartfelt and beautiful; your son is fortunate to have you as a father.

  • Thank you very much for your comment, Wishful thinking on my part....wish there was no such thing or word as divorce....

We still do many things together....sing, play soccer, in-line skate, cycle, read, swim....etc. here's wishing you well!

  • look closely - this is a painful video - like someone close to them had just died that day. Great sound - so emotional

  • @arainbowitz I am 45 yrs old. I believe, now at my age, this really has to be the perfect poem ever. The truth behind all the verses that he speaks of, dang fits today. tomorrow and yesterday. It can be continued for many years for we are just so wrong.

  • I am 20, and i agree with you 100%

This man is a huge inspiration to many people and his poetry speaks truth through and through.

  • A painful version of a painful song. The lyrics here are so depressing... the end of the second verse kills me!

  • The only way Paul Simon could be better is if he had Steve Gadd w/ him on drums...oh!

  • Bhav and Muzzy love this record , their always slip slideing away!!! Macca has a little slide from time to time..

  • timeless.

  • Paul simon=timeless. He is my favorite of everything I have ever heard or likely ever will.

  • Paul Simon is absolutely the best lyrics writer of all time

  • that verse about the boy and his father is devastating. makes me cry.

  • the way our lifestyle is I am sure it makes alot of folks cry.. Beautiful honesty from you.

  • I've been listening to 2007'sThe Essential Paul Simon. As a fan, I am blown away by how many great songs he has had and that I've loved throughout the years.

    Where have I've been?

    Slip slidin' away

    Slip slidin' away

You know the nearer your destination

The more you're slip slidin' away

  • So beutiful

  • The man knows music like nobody else. How I long to hear music with such acute discrimination today.

  • It's his birthday tomorrow. One of the great artists of our time. Happy Birthday Paul. Px

  • Eventhough he's (almost) 68, he still sounds amazing...

  • took less than an hour to write bizzare

  • really nice song x

  • Brilliant!

  • thankyu paul

  • Just great!

  • Very very good.

  • What does this song mean??

  • It means...the nearer your destination the more you slip slidin away...

  • whoa! really man! thanks man

    I never knew that

  • It refers, as Kierkegaard would say, to the awful anticipation of being able.

  • I hit down mistakenly. Guess I missed my destination. Up to loudenm.

  • 1. The man loves his women more than she loves him. 2. The woman settled. 3. Either the father took a hike or the mother said take a hike. When you are in your 30's don't wish you were in your 20's for when you are in your 40's you are going to wish you were in you 30's.Hence Slip sliding away. Take each day for what it really is. Because the what it is is is.

  • Love this song. When this came out I was getting a divorce. My 2 year old son started singing this along with the car radio. My name is Delores. That got my attention! It was spooky as though it was written about me. I sing and play guitar and do this one every now and then.

  • loved your comment :-)

  • I love this song. It makes me think of many life experiences that I have faltered on. I had to post my own version of it, though I'm not sure if it does it any justice.

  • this is my favorite song by paul simon from his solo career, and this version is absolutely incredible. thanks so much for posting this. it's really, truly beautiful.

  • I like the original version better but this one is pretty cool too.

  • Benny Hill on the lead. Nice.

  • wtf are you on about?

  • Not only amazing artists but what an incredible influence on, not just music, but people's entire perspective on life. Nice that guys like this came along and made all the fine music that they did.

  • exactly what i think. he´s the best songwriter on earth

  • yeah i was just thinking that.

  • I like this version.

  • Help! What happened to the version of "slip slidin' away" that was done at the central park concert with Art? I used to have it in my favorites, but I think it was removed. I keep searching but I can't seem to find that particular version. Anybody know if it's still on youtube?

  • Try to listen to this one a few times more, maybe you will grow into it.

This version is so much better than the CP81 version, it goes right into your soul.

  • I think the best version of Slip Slidin' Away is from the "Old Friends: Live on Stage" release... the album also has the most perfect "American Tune"

  • What's up with the lead guitar? Is he using a PAINTBRUSH? What's that all about?

  • That's for rhythm and it seems he's finger picking the riffs. Either way the guy is playing great stuff!

  • Awesome song.

  • If you were anybody you wouldn'y say anything, and everybody knows that. But it's nice to pretend your'e important isn't it? ; )

  • lovely

  • Perfect

  • Incredible song, incredible performance.

  • My son when a little boy loved this song, I think it was the part about the father kissing his son. sadly that hardly ever happened. Divorce is cruel, but my son could still dream......

  • Truly great music resonates with our own experiences. I hope you find happiness.
