  • i tried to, and it really worked!!! it`s great man

  • good rap beat, what is the name?

  • ha searching for a guy that would treat me well

  • I have a A+

  • try it in my chemistry class and I got an A + thanks!!!!!!

  • ha ha that was pretty... random...

  • crazy

  • RATATAT !!!!

  • ratatatatatatatatat at ;)

  • But would it work with Atheist candles? Or maybe god makes it happen - a MIRACLE.

  • EPIC!

  • you should give credit to ratatat.

  • cool

  • photoshoped

  • how is that photoshopped?

  • LOL See Sawing Flames!

  • wow...crazy, but awesome

  • Freaking Cool

  • minus the fact that all candles are made of is petroleum?

  • man, life gets stranger every day...

  • ratatat?

  • yep

  • song??

  • Che figata!! :D

  • super bien excelente

  • This feels like a music video, it's awesome.

  • someone has plenty of free time...

  • its just a really cool seesaw. as melted wax from one side falls, it is lighter, and the other side goes down,,,vice versa.

  • Perpetual motion? or a rednecks after noon watching a candle melt...

  • Not perpetual motion

  • Perpetual motion machines cannot exist.

  • we live in one

  • good point prosnobro... the entire universe has, as we know so far (never assure anything about universe, we can just guess things), a constant amount of energy. No loss, no income.

  • bravo touche

  • bos islerle ugrasmayin oglum

  • "Spanish Armada" by Ratatat

  • Thanks, bellechanel, for identifying the band.

Neistat Bros: you guys should give credit where it's due, even if it's in the tags. I'm sure the musicians would appreciate it.

  • WUNNERFULLLLLL!!!!!

  • waste of my time!

  • I agree, the music is so...i don't know..Steampunk?? excellent production!

  • I don't know why but this video has some kind of calming effect. it's reall good. What's the music? i luv it. Please tell me what the music is. i'll do anything you want me to if you would only tell me what that music is. OK thats a bit desperate but please tell me any way !

  • you guys should check out another one of their science experiments... It involves nearly bringing a goldfish to its death then reviving it, to the music of Ersatz, by Fischerspooner. Such a good video to go with such a good song. I can't seem to find it on youtube, but look up the niestat brothers' website.

  • then what happens at the end?

  • I think it just falls over or one of the flames extinguish.

  • That part where he heats up the needle then slides it through the candle was mildly erotic... in a mechanical kind of way. ('.')

  • "The candle that burns twice as bright only lasts 1/2 as long"

  • WOW! I'm going to HAVE to do this one. Thanks for some great ideas!

  • cool

  • if only you could get it to spin a 360

  • thats amazing

  • fire has its own friend ^^

  • That looks pretty cool, and i like the music ^^ good video, gotta get a candle to try. 5/5

  • Nice!

  • That is crazy!!!

  • RATATAT! i love those guys

  • its good to see your innovation,,doing something with your life besides becoming a loser,,I commend you,, your parents must be as proud of you as I am of my kids,,,best of luck,,keep up the good work,,an A+ from this teacher....

  • your experiments are amazing

  • wow, u guys are, like, smart, and suff...But any way, i think that Wayninsky's theory or nairbil's theory is the best and makes sense (because i play w/fire 2 lol). w/e they r the same anyway. Yea... Nice vids they're awesome!

  • ...where do you get double sided candles??

  • jus cut off the wax on the other end and leave the string behind? not even hard to do.

  • u dum fucks its doing that cus of that wax driping off

  • The only dumb fuck I see is the one that can't spell correctly.

  • you have a small what ?

  • What does that even mean?

  • oh your from the usa and a woman i will cut you some slack

  • Gee thanks. So you are selectively a douchebag. I think you just got called out and can't make a good comeback. Nice.

All I'm saying is that you don't have to be an ass because some people don't understand.

  • Look, as the candle begins to burn, it burns just the slightest bit more on one side than the other. The heavier end slowly begins to drop. As it drops it begins to burn more rapidly than the other end. It continues this way until the other end becomes heavier and the candle rocks. The cycle repeats and builds on itself.

  • :D cooooool

  • omfg how do you get the idea to do such awsome shit?

  • Explanation is heated air around the flame causes the end to rise (like a hot air baloon), and when the other side is also burning it causes a loop, like a swing, back and forth when the one end rises it cools down and the other gets hot and rises (repeats)

  • So you mean the air around was hot enough to push the candle up???? If you were right then the candle should fly away from the table to other country (like a hot air baloon)

  • have you seen how much hot air it takes to lift a hot air ballon... because that theory sucks. i mean the hot air isn't even being inclosed! if it was hot air then one side would continualy rise aswell because hot air rises, and the candles flames are on the top so once one of them got on top of the hot air it would just continue to rise... because the othere would hit the floor where it is coldist... but it doesn't matter.. because it would never happen

  • you sound stupid. the first thing you see should be the loss of wax on one end and it immediately rises. and when it drops down, it shakes the wax off due to gravity and it gains momentum to rise up.

  • holy crap.... do u guys like.... try this stuff on a hunch?

  • yeah what is the name of that song?

  • f*ucking awesome OMG

  • ok wait what did i just watch and how did it do that im so trying it

  • cool

  • Cool

  • YEAH!!!

  • oh looks like a good christmas tree ornament :)

  • i need explanation!

  • whats the name of this song?

  • HARİKA

  • wow! how cool is that

  • hmm i wonder how many kids will burn there house down after watching this

  • dude!! thats so kool!! i like that i mite try it some time!

  • spoko! daje 5 ;]

  • :)

  • thats hottt...

  • wobble wobble wobble ^^

  • omg u discovered perpetual motion!

    jk

  • ¬¬U

  • Lol, if I didn't see that "jk", your ass would've been so flamed with logic XD

  • Hey guys. Loved your works for a very long time, glad to see you on youube. From your latest subscriber.

  • What the hell?! Somebody haxed the universe!

  • hahaha

  • boring. boring, and i expected it to start spinning--now i'm all disappointed

and i have no idea where all this bullshit science is coming from--it's just building up a motion from the ends burning at different rates...

  • we all understand why, but that should never stop someone from experimenting.

you can never say you'll know the outcome until you witness it.

  • oh btw Kaos theory is a mathematical & physics phenomenon that describes how a small sensitive event can cause a large random effect. Its to do with the atmosphere, the solar system, plate tectonics, turbulent fluids, economics, population growth and so on. Not how a candle swings up and down! lol

  • I totally agree with nairbil...he's prediction sounds most logical, in engineering there is a formula that is Moment(or torque) = Force x Distance away from axle. the forces of gravity are equal on both sides but the distances are changing because the flames are burning the wax unevenly! Thus a imbalance in distance creates a moment then creates the swinging movement that starts really small then gradually gets more momentum. Great video!

  • i dont really understand his math... why didnt he just type 9.25/2 ? o.O

  • Wow nice one. Shame you didn't film it longer to see what happend but otherwise great

  • Memorizing - what was that song, it fit very well

  • What are you memorizing?

  • Alas, if i could only memorize how to spell...

  • ...kewl

  • That's actually hypnotic!

  • what was the music in this video?

  • ratatat-spanish armada

  • RATATAT!!

  • RATATAT!!

  • yes, but why does it start? simply because there was deviation in the time lit on each end by the wicks? or the wicks burned at different rates? not sure... could be either. But, I think Nairbil has a point there

  • Lots of things can start a slight imbalance, chaos theory basically. But once that happens, the oscillation begins. Its a neat system because it's one where it's constantly fighting itself to become balanced, which ironically creates a larger opposite imbalance, which it then fights against. Since chaos started it, it is possible that it could achieve balance again through chaos and stop moving, or never start moving to begin with.

  • What a lot of pseudo-scientific bullshit. Chaos is only relevant to the order in the imbalance, nonlinear mathematics can be used to model how a system like this behaves. "Chaos started it" means absolutely nothing. Fire, conducted and radiated heat, friction and displacement started it. The imbalance was there to begin with because nobody could put the needle -perfectly- in the middle. So it's really quite amazing that a system like this could reach a state of order. THAT'S Chaos.

  • This PID loop is in need of a Kp adjustment.

  • when one flame is pointed down, it melts the wax faster than the one pointed up simply because it's burning into the candle as opposed to away. Thus, this rapid melting of one side lowers the weight making it rise. The process repeats and amplifies as the candle gets lighter and lighter and the mass lost is more significant to the total mass. That's my prediction.

  • why is it so hard to type cool? its the same number of keystrokes as kewl, but saying kewl, doesnt make you sound cool

  • ...very kewl..

  • That was very interesting. I would not have predicted the oscillation.

  • good one..

  • KEWL
