  • Bob burns is my grandpa

    he died in october 2011

  • wow,so crazy, i landed in wpg aug 16, 1967. From Scotland, i was 10, HAH, and missed top of the pops

  • LMFAO @ people thinking John said "N*ggers" ahahaha

  • Everyone calm down.....he said...KNICKERS...... Christ you know it ain't easy, you know how hard it can be......

  • She was a nasty little girl--knickers indeed! I was there--it was electric--never been the same since--45 years playing rock and roll guitar--permanent damage!

  • i live in winnipeg...

  • they ARE god

  • I read that Bob Burns was the first Canadian announcer to interview the Beatles when they landed here in 1964. After the Ringo's glasses statement, there are two interviewers who briefly speak with the Beatles, and Bob appears to be the third (John Lennon, at least.) Who knows? Maybe the first two weren't announcers at all! Does anyone know who the first two guys were?

  • ....it's not my fault! Oh John, you were the one. R.I.P. Bob Burns.

  • Rest in peace Bob Burns. One of the few people in Manitoba to meet the Beatles. Although he never hung around with them.

  • @Fooblestheclown bob burns was my great uncle

  • @Fooblestheclown yup! i never got the chance to meet him, too bad too, he was an amazing guy. last time i went to my grandpa's house he told me stories about him. he was my moms favorite uncle. rip uncle bob

  • Delivered with the urgency of the Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor.

  • Brian Olynik for city council! Search him on youtube! BrianOlynik. ca

  • Oh I was in Winnipeg two years ago for an exchange, I didn't know The Beatles ever were there!

  • Great video. Thanks for posting. We were in Winnipeg some time after and had to go out onto the airport observation deck to just be there & imagine the mayhem!. Nostalgic.

Yes, of course, Rob, both John and Bob clearly say Knickers...He was being playful, and did seem to catch Bob off-guard. It is like one of us shouting "panties" back then to see what reaction one might get.

  • assholes were only here to refuel fd

  • stayout if you wouldve read past comments, you wouldve seen me reply with he said **KNICKERS** its not that hard to read past comments.

  • john sounded like he said nigga's

  • John said "knickers."

  • Did I or did I not here John say 'nigga's'?

  • I was there.

  • omg! i didnt know they came to the peg! i wish i was alive then to see them!!!!

  • They were only here to re-fuel.

  • "That's not my fault".

    "I know".

  • Bob Burns: "how was the trip John" John: "long" Bob: "I suppose it was good to stretch out your legs" John: "among other things ...yes" HAHA! (poor Bob Burns)

  • I saw some other people on here commenting about John's "kinckers" comment. And just to put everyone's mind at ease, John was not a racist. I've seen a picture of The Beatles and Little Richard, seen footage of him playing songs on TV with Chuck Berry, and heard him talk about having black friends in an interview from '74. Plus, Billy Preston played organ on the Beatles' album Let It Be, and he was black. I think the interviewer just misunderstood what John said.

  • *knickers

  • @TheYellowSubmarine13 yeah yeah....John said knickers ... big deal...just enjoy the rare video people ...and do NOT believe for a second that Bob Burns became friends with John Lennon after...total bullshit! (there must be another version of this video out somewhere...cuz I remember Paul and Ringo being interviewed as well)

  • If Bob Burns went to visit Lennon say on Dec 6 1980, at the Dakota and intoduced himself as the guy who interviewed him in Winnipeg back in 64....he would have called security, and have him thrown out.

  • Ok well I have no idea what point you're trying to make. I posted this video simply for nolstagia purposes, and not for opinions or political arenas.

  • The point I'm trying to make is Burns had no other relationship with Lennon since this interview. Great video however.

  • Yes we all knew Burns had no relationship with Lennon. Years later on a CTV Winnipeg anniversary, Burns admitted that his ego hit the tarmack when Lennon said "That's not my fault" that Burns worked for channel 7 television.

  • Can I send you a link? you may find it interesting....

  • Hi you should be able to post the link here and when I have time Ill copy and pasted it into the address bar .. have to log off .. bye for now.

  • There was more than one reporter at the scene...it would be interesting to hear what they asked the Fab four....

  • Inedible glasses? what the hell is he talking about?!

  • INCREDIBLE glasses .. and I dont know why the glasses were incredible either ..

  • Oh....incredible glasses.....I get it.

  • he said..."inimitable"....meaning..."his own style" - which was stupid.

  • great to see this, too bad more of the old Winnipeg footage like "Teen Dance Party" etc didn't exist so we could see some of the Winnipeg bands!

  • how does an American know anything about Teen Dance Party? ( I am impressed!)

  • PONYBOY I only posted this video for nostalgia purposes on a local TV station here .. not for you to give you or anyone political space! John Lennon said "knickers" (English trousers) and please do not swear or curse on my area - thanks!

  • 1:40 It's all right!

  • kstatik - John says "knickers" (panties). I think the reporter did follow up with n-----. He asked John to speak Scouse (the Liverpool accent) but was too daft to understand Lennon. Wha a divvy!

  • At 1:18, does John Lennon say the 'n' word? lol I've listened to this about 15 times, and it sounds like it. Then the reporter repeats it...

  • ringo with the glsses.... hahahhaha/

  • I know this video is longer...I remember seeing Bob Burns interview Paul and Ringo...Paul commented on how 'sunny" it was

  • the one fellow...stated that John and Bob Burns later became great friends ...which is an absolute joke...as I am sure John forgot about Bob as soon as he stepped back on the plane...and continued his flirtatious assault...on the flight attendants.

  • I agree. Burns was once quoted as being friends with John and meeting up with him when he went to England while managing the Guess Who....total Bullshit.

  • Years later, Bob Burns, in a CJAY/CKY anniversary interview, admitted he had an ego while talking to John Lennon on the steps of the plane. He said his ego hit the tarmack when, after Bob said "John, Bob Burns channel 7 television" to which John Lennon replied "Thats not my fault!" Classic! lol

  • I simply posted this video to show that the Beatles landed in Winnipeg - that was the **ONLY** reason!

  • no...thats great...it is a totally cool video ... its our only true link with the Fab 4 ...and thanks for posting....I am just in a little 'debate" with another gentleman. John was very entertaining in this video ... he seemed to need the fresh air. Bob Burns was nervous...and no match for John.

  • well I sure pissed off that "gullible gentleman" because he actually believes that Bob Burns was a Lennon friend. He even messaged me...with threats of slapping me out! HA HA, yeah....everyone who ever spoke to Lennon ...was a deep friend...yeah....well...mission accomplished.

  • you fucking idiot

  • Stupid fucking reporter instead of letting them get closer to the audience the idiots block them from getting closer.

    Fucking Hillbillies

  • I love this, I hadn't seen it before! What fun those schoolboys from around the corner were. Wish we'd heard the other boys interviews.

  • The reporter Bob Burns became friends with John Lennon after brushing aside a man who lunged at Lennon in Toronto. He taught John how to bowl at 3am in the hotel using scotch bottles and grapefruit in the hallway. Burns also went on to become The Guess Who's first manager. He retired in St. Anne Manitoba and had original Lennon artwork on the walls from

his friend. I worked with Bob in the 80's and heard many tales....

  • bull fucking shit ....John Lennon and Bob Burns friends...bull FUCKING SHIT! John Lennon forgot about Bob Burns as soon as he stepped back on the plane!

  • Comment removed

  • so me proof...of this Burns/Lennon friendship - I mean....it could be true ....I mean, after all .... I was supposed to be the 1st man to walk on the moon...but I phoned in sick the day of the launch. (damn...talked about a missed opportunity!)

  • Comment removed

  • show me proof of this Lennon/Burns friendship! ( an article in a book would do nicely) It could be true....after all, I was was supposed to be the 1st man to walk on the moon...but I phoned in sick the day of the launch! ( I have really come to hate Neil Armstrong!)

  • HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA ...yeah..you heard "tales" and BELIEVED them....idiot!

  • did john lennon drop the "N" bomb there at 1:20 ?? if not it sounded wered

  • I think he said Nickers

  • He did.

  • i think he did - Wanted to offend us Winnipeggers that english Bastard!

  • Sounds like knickers too me..can't imagine someone who married a Japanese person being racist?

  • KNICKERS - Liverpudlian slang for girls underpants. The word is used in a song as well. I Am The Walrus. "ooooo you've been a naughty girl, you let your knickers down" something close to that.

  • fucking sweetness

  • I cant understand a word of the interview...what John wrote in the notebook..what did he said he will?...anybody?...

  • Are you asking what John said when he was signing the notebook??? It sounded to me like he said "This man's butting in while we do the interview. Don't worry about that."

  • They're all sooooooooooooooo hot in those sunglasses....

  • I didn't know the beatles went to Canada

they should come to Calgary AB haha

  • I saw a tour intenerary of theirs a few years back that showed every gig they did from '63 to '66, and I believe they played Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver all at least once.

  • haha nice! i don't think the winnipeg airport has changed much since then.

  • wow winnipeg..........cool

  • the beatles came at a time before yassir arafat destroyed western civilization with airport baggage checks and pat downs

  • My sisters were running across the field from Park Royal beach wich later became Summerland in the 70's. By the time they got to the airport..the Beatles flew away...sad story.

  • John Lennon was going to visit Winnipeg with Yoko for Manpop back in 1970...a certain right wing radio station started a petition against them arriving.. as a result, they never did...guess which station?

  • lol, only on the net.

  • Beatles stopping to refuel...August 18,1964...on their way to San Fran to start their 1st coast to coast tour of the US on August 19 at The Cow Palace..and ending in NYC on Sept.20,1964...

  • The Beatles were in Winnipeg? That's like un-heard of! Awesome.

  • That reception was almost as big as the last time I was in Winnipeg

  • I also remember fans cutting the sod from the airport that the Beatles walked on into little squares and taking the sod home as souvenirs!

  • I was stuck at home babysitting my little sister and couldn't leave to go to the airport. I have been pissed about that ever since!! :(

  • John is in good form .... probably had a couple scotch and cokes on the plane (the reporter is Bob Burns ...and he appears quite excited - as he blurts out some dumb things) A bit of trivia - the late Bruce Decker ran up the stairs of the plane at one point of this little visit (he was a member of the Deverons - Burton Cummings first band) Too bad that wasnt on video! KNICKERS!

  • Great to see this. Compared to other reporters that the Beatles had to deal with, this interviewer was pretty cool and had a good laugh with John.

    :-)

  • Said 'knickers.' Scouse for panties, when he was asked to say something in his Liverpool accent.

  • Ooooh naughty boy!!! John shame on you! ;)

  • The Beatles came to Winnipeg?

Amazing, i had no idea man.

  • Thats my airport!!! Wow was i born at the wrong time

  • Please **DO NOT** post un-related messages on my video or my profile - thanks.

  • Haha oh man John is just adorable. <3

  • John... Always witty...

  • SQUEAL! ..."Steady, girls." :D

I sometimes wonder what these guys think, with all the screaming going on for these four "schoolboys from around the corner". Great bit. John's in good form for getting off a long, wearing flight. Thanks for posting.

  • Steady, girls...!

I am a winnipegger, and I didn't know this footage existed, although I knew the Fab Ones once touched down.

A Beatle, Ringo, I think, stopped here to see the Last Tango in Paris, starring Marlon Brando, which was banned everywhere but here in the cosmopolitan metropolis of Winnipeg.

  • I remember that observation deck where you could go outside to see the runways.. They now have an indoor viewing area built where the outdoor facility use to be..

I remember back in the early 90's before the new observation place is now and trying to go out to see the old deck but the boards were all rotted and I wouldnt trust going out there.. shortly after security came by and told me that deck had been closed for years and I wasnt allowed where I was!!

  • Oh my God, did John say "niggers" at 1:18?!

  • I think John said "knickers" at 1:18, unless it's spelled "nickers."

  • That's what I thought, too but I wanted a second opinion. I don't think John was racist against blacks that he would use that disgusting word.

  • Yeah, but I think the other guy misheard John and thought he said that as well.

  • Thanks for sharing...Great to see old footage!!!
