  • Great work by CRRI, congrats all the scientists there |~~

  • thank you india! It is refreshing to see new innovation in the world

  • Globalization, with it's associated techological advancement, has created much wealth for some, yet has enabled the enslavement of others. Rapid increases in science, technology, industry, commerce and trade - considered by many to be signs of progess leading toward a more peaceful future among nations - have done nothing to halt, and have rather helped, this horrile crime against humanity.

  • Well, in Assam, India, we traditionally have a variety of rice called Komal Saul translated to Soft Rice. This rice is soaked in water and can be eaten. It is very popular as most people don't eat cooked rice outside home. They eat this variety of rice.

  • This rice is not GMO; it has been traditionally hybridized. It remains to be seen how nutritious it is, however.

  • How do you know? Did the scientists tell you that too?

  • Cold, lukewarm rice really does stink...I think even rice pudding needs to be cooked to taste right.

  • right..rice is way better warm, cold/luke warm yuck

  • but i like my rice warm <=(

  • GMO's are just a scam to sue people for breaking a copyright. There are people that are so evil they will sue you for growing food.

  • Now please invent a plant that teaches indians proper English.

  • please invent a plant that can slap the ignorance out of people like u.

  • I feel your pain. Understand you being upset on Indian English. It must feel bad to be really stupid like you. Try out some Indian food - you might have a chance to get some grey matter.

  • soak it for 45miutes and its still that coarse. no thx.

  • nothing beats cooked rice...

i think when you eat this kind it taste like cold porridge...

  • these fucking blasphemous bastards have created an abomination against christ. mark my words god will be directing the next earthquake to india. cunts.

  • @MisterMadBastard calm down

  • mistermadbastard - keep it up. I like your sense of humour. Tajikistan? I don't think so - my guess is UK.

  • Isn't boiling the water important for killing microbes and parasites? Is this rice a safe idea for places that don't have clean water?

  • Still gotta soak the rice in a pot of clean water, might as well cook it. It's really not that hard to boil water.

  • @thackerdonald

Sure, but the material needed for fire is not that easy to come by; for the poor at least.

  • @roosterbasher Sure, let the elite keep the enslaved poor alive/but kill their bid to escape the wretchedness of their pitiful existence.

  • It's amazing that in this day and age, when investment bankers routinely take home $50 million paychecks, we can't seem to work out how to help the majority of people on this planet from being at risk through lack of water and power. Astonishing, here's hoping things change sooner rather than later.

  • no amount of money donated has ever helped, BECAUSE THEIR OWN GOVERNMENTS TAKE THE MONEY FOR THEMSELVES!!!!!!!!!!!!

End the corruption of government, and you end poverty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is huge for the poor who can't afford the heat to cook regular rice.

  • what's next? a spontaneous hand job? fuck india

  • Wonder how Monsanto is going to respond to this...maybe seeds (patented of course) that grow Popped Corn on the cob?...Self slicing tomatoes?...

  • @misserinchase

lol very true! I wonder what transmutations this rice will undergo while journeying from the mouth to the a_ _

  • Maybe some sort of atypical alimentary REVERSEosis? ew!

  • What's next? politicians that dont need to be elected, butts that dont need to be wiped, children who can raise themselves, pulp-free oranges, filtered crack pipes, wives that dont nag and chickens that can fertiilze themselves?.

  • Fuck yeah....go humans go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE!?

  • is that not an ironic statement to write on the internet?

like asking what architects have done while standing on a bridge.

  • Japan is about to lose their minds.......

  • Rice is my fave food :D

  • So what will they do about the bacteria now that you won't desinfekt the food?

  • Comment removed

  • good question.. clean water is not easy to find in india

  • Yeah, why is that..., 2 many noobs thats why.

..and yeah I see your point but my comment was not that seriously meant either.

  • THANK'S

  • No human should eat grains.... on top of the there is a reason that rice is soaked and cooked, this helps a little with some of the issues with grains (rice) such and blocking mineral absorption. To base this on saving global warming you know its part of a scam.

  • good call.

  • oh fuck. the only thing i could cook.... shit

  • this a fucking abomination against christ

  • chill, bible freak

  • im not too crazy about hybrid foods.

  • Is this rice some kind of GMO, or they developed it with a some type of selection process? If it's GMO, then it's a garbage, else, probably it's good.

  • not that i know whether ur right or not, but a common misconception is that all GMO food is automatically garbage.. This is because most GMO is made by american capitalist corporations for whom profit (i.e. selling by weight of produce) is the key priority.. so you end up with gigantic tomatoes with ~40% less nutritional value than the organic..

They say in this interview that they focused on nutrition, not yield. So it could be good! It's not Monsanto after all.

  • OK, dude, it's simple. I'm not gonna eat GMO. You, do whatever you want. Even if you eat shits out of your toilet bowl, I wouldn't give a shit about it. That's your problem. Remember I make my choices & you make your choices.

  • LOL, don't recall telling you what to do man, but if you wanna be reactive thats fine.. might want to pay attention to your blood pressure cause its a bigger killer than any GMO foods.

  • Don't recall telling you that you told me what to do, buddy. LOL.

  • You eat GMO's on regular basis whether you realize it or not, most food is genetically modified, they barely do anything naturally anymore, even if they tell you it's natural, it really isn't. Sad truth, and it's only going to get worse.

  • I believe you are talking about your situation. There are some countries have GMO labeling law. There are ppl grow their own food. There are ppl buy food from organic farms, or organic suppliers. Also note that there are still more foods out there which aren't GMO. Most GMO crops are corn, soy, canola, & cotton seed. Also most of prepackaged or processed foods have GMOs in them.

  • (cont)

You might be right about getting worse in the future. However, that's only if we don't fight against it. So, if more ppl are like you just being sad about the reality or like smokydave believing GMO isn't so bad, then GMO is what everybody will eat in the future. But if more ppl scream bloody murder about GMO, then we won't have to eat that shit in the future. So, you choose your destiny. Cheers.

  • Perhaps you would be convincing if you actually give me a good reason why it is bad it will be more convincing than just saying it is.

  • @DSBrekus

    Two things:

    i) I don't have to convince you. Like I said to some other dude, you choose what you eat. I don't choose it for you.

  • No you shouldn't choose it for me, but by inventing controversy about things to get them banned, you do end up choosing for other people, and thats not okay.

  • LOL. Too much credit, buddy: inventing controversy. LOL. The goal of Corp like Monsanto is to make every food GMO & they own the patent for all of them. I'm fighting against this. You do what ever you want. It seems that you & I aren't on the same team. I say so be it. You like GMO!! Keep it up, buddy.

  • Also, note that when you vote for someone you are voting against some other one, i.e. when you vote for some one, according to you, you are trying to make a choice for others. Do we call this process "Wrong"? I'm certain that it's not called "Wrong" in my community. What about yours? LOL.

  • Look, if you don't like something, then don't support it. But don't make up reasons like vague undefined health risks.

  • @DSBrekus

Tell me do you know whether there are health risks eating GMO?

  • @DSBrekus

    (cont)

ii) The point is this you don't know whether it's good or bad. Probably I don't, either. Doctors used to say smoking (cigs) wasn't bad. You see it's difficult to do a (RDBSS) randomized double blind statistical study on certain things as smoking, or GMO, etc. The thing about GMO is you can do RDBSS; it just takes very long time to get the results, & funny thing about RDBSS on GMO is that it's on going right now on us without consent. So welcome to the lab, buddy. Enjoy the chow.

  • Will do thanks ^_^

  • obama is appointing the lawyer lobbyist big stock holder from monsanto to head the dept of agriculture

  • I heard.. very disappointing.. he's been endlessly disappointing. and so fake that he gave a speech bashing lobbyists a couple days after this appointment.

  • There is no such thing as global warming.

At best, it's junk science (as it was decades ago when it was referred to as "global cooling"....but that's another story). But mostly it's an intentional deception to trick people into accepting extreme fascism.

Understand something. The VAST majority of "carbon emissions" come from food production. Global warming LIARS are trying to invent justification for starving to death billions of people....to "save the planet".

  • you don't seem to know what you're talking about so i'll break it down for you..

Global warming is real, global cooling is real.. both have happened on this planet millions of times before, including the last ice age and the end of the ice age.

whether or not global cooling or warming exists is not up for debate by any scientists.. what is up for debate is whether or not our carbon emissions are influencing it and/or whether changing our industries will effect it.

  • Why are you spreading lies?? Fuck you and your ignorant egoistic agenda.

  • Normal rice can be eaten after soaked for 8 hours... stupid. Bet that rice has some sick defects that no oneknows about.

  • Just another way to kill the population by taking out the nutrients.

  • @RadioBull theres a guy where I work that gets those off craigslist.

  • wow!

YEA no more long waiting for rice to cook

    :D

  • What's next? A d*ck that can suck itself? LOL!

  • Nuts!

  • Here is how India can save everything: Stop breeding!!

  • yummy.. genetically modified rice.

  • @officialusa Um. I did not hear anything about genetically modified. It is simply an ordinary hybrid.

  • and what carcinogens does it have?

  • @amandasdesigns and what amazing healing properties does it have as well?

Leading in with a false question is the first sign that the "scientifically created foods must be more dangerous than natural foods because "natural foods" has the word "natural" in it" crowd have no argument whatsoever.

Genetically modified foods may potentially be dangerous in some order. May. And even then, they're innocent until proven guilty by way of the burden of proof (and three years study is good enough for me)

  • @Truthiness231 That might be true, but this rice is not genetically modified. It is an ordinary hybrid.

  • Here's where I'm up to in the current debate, and I've yet to hear an argument for the contrary that sounds better: we know for sure - the statistics of the number of lives that Norman Borlaug alone are there and stand as shining proof - that GM foods have saved over a billion lives. We also don't know if GM foods have caused a single death.

Now, I'm not a big city lawyer *pause for gasps*, but it seems to me that GM foods are a fucking scientific miracle we should support, not condemn.
