  • oil floats on water.. it has less density dan water...

  • why do you put water in it and can this be used indoors. Thanks awesome video

  • @scorpio11778 Im not sure but i guess that water and oil dont mix with each other so if you put water you dont have too pour so much oil just a bit for as a fuel.

  • Jack Daniels bottle, olive oil, and strips of a cotton t-shirt worked just as well.

  • will it work with plastic fuel? O.o.

  • One thing I see wrong with this oil lamp is the water is touching the wick and it will soak up or "wick" up through the wick and will cause the lame to not burn or "sputter"when the water evaporates at the end of the burning wick . easy wat to keep this from happening is to not fill the vassal ( in this case a wine bottle) with water but use sand or stones . The sand/stones will add stability to the lamp and also be used as a filler as the water was in this video .But still a great video .

  • @noahhill308ruger I believe this type of oil with water helps the oil to burn slower.

  • will a shoelace work???

  • @981randomdude as long as the shoelace is 100% cotton it will work just the same as a wick

  • will a shoe lace work instead of a oil wick coz i cant find any in the hardware store???

  • i wouldve been lazy and folded it

  • "i had this from a left over lamp kit"

"i found this lamp oil in my garage"

    lier =/

  • @itsbenstar does it matter if she did/did not? And how would you know? I know many people who have these things in their garage among other things.

  • Last time there was a power outage, I made one out of an empty Ben and Jerry's carton. Cut a slit through the lid, ran through some string, and eureka! I obviously didn't leave it unattended for even a second, but it didn't burn the lid. I just thought it was cool that I was able to make a lamp out of paper.

  • Check out the Wuala link in the description of my films. Ive just uploaded several books about the 3rd Reich GESTAPO printed in the 1930s. More in english will follow. There isnt much difference to todays Germany. Except for the torture being done with directed energy weapons as explained on my channel and homepage. The former GESTAPO today is named BND.

  • fuckin ads

  • Why poring water in the bottle?

  • @krashevich Oil is less dense than water, so it'll always stay on top (unless you shake it up or something, but it'll still return to the top eventually.). That wick didn't go down very far into the bottle, so she filled with water up to just below where the wick would end, and floated some oil on top.

  • @nrrork

    Thanks.

  • @Summercraze12 yes its legit, im here now at my aunts place :( .

i didnt save everything except a bunch of clothes.

i came here not to blame the video, its my carelesnes :( its all my fault. :(

no home, no money, just loving friends left...... ..

    godbless and take care...

  • That video was diesel. Very cool.

  • the good news tried it and it works .

the bad news i have no house now.. :(

  • @thingjimenez wow. lol. I seriously hope you are kidding.

  • 0:19 ..... STUFF THAT YOU FOUND IN YOUR CROTCH ?

  • this looks dangerous. like a bottle bomb

  • or just make a molotov with the rag shoved in further and dont throw it. or you could throw it to get some real lighting

  • @Odood19

Or find someone with a better light and hit them with the bottle.

  • if u check again in your gareage you might find 10 $ to buy a good lamp...

  • People puh-leeze!! oil lamps have been in use for literally thousands of years. Calm down !!!! Modern day oil lamps, known as hurricane lamps in my neck of the swamp, are metal and glass and use this same principle.

vegetable oil has to be heated to a very high temp to combust. If the bottle is broken the wick is the only dangerous part so is as safe as a candle.

  • why water?

  • @The50011 the oil will float on top of the water so you don't have to fill the whole bottle with oil because the wick doesn't reach the bottom of the wine bottle

  • What ever the oil comes in contact with be comes the fuel. If a flame is present all you need is oxygen and the fuel source and you get combustion. You can put a match out in gas as well but would you put a flame in gas? Same concept.

  • Lamp wick found in garage, lamb oil bottle.... Maybe yo should dig some better to find a real oil lamp? =)))

  • sympa

  • Very dangerous! Don't try this at home. Bad move

  • @bobswoodshop

why is it Dangerous?? it ant a petrol lamp. its a oil lamp try droping a mach in oil it will go out. and 4 oil to burn it needs to get very very very hot or needs a wick. keep the wick low and it wont get to hot . if the wick fell in the oil it wod go out.

  • this is freaking dangerous... seriously I hope your kids don't get too close to that cause if they drop it down and break.... they're burned 3rd degree

  • @goupil418

(freaking dangerous) how is it dangerous. if it fell over it wod just go out the oil dont burn to well thats why you need a wick.

  • You can use shoe laces too, or pretty much any fabric

  • Yeah, you make this, leave it on your table, and your huge, massive dog comes along and hits it with his tail. And bada-bing, your house is on fire.

  • @LAURYNBIEBER2010

Dont let the dog get to it then. any way it wood go out if it feel over.

  • This is an extremely dangerous way to do this. I'm not sure why she puts in water before using oil lamp oil...but the dangerous part of this is using the metal washers and nuts....that flame will get those metal pieces extremely hot and could possibly heat the glass to the point where it could crack or even explode! You can purchase very inexpensive glass plugs that already have fiberglass wicks in them.....I have even used old porcelain knobs with the center screw removed/wick goes in center

  • I saw a previous comment on why water is needed at all and I wasn't able to figure that out but another DIY site on making this same thing said to use equal parts water and oil. It also said you can use lamp oil or canola or olive oil.

  • @beanknotty Because the wick didn't go to the bottom of the bottle and the lamp oil will float on top of the water.

  • @beanknotty

you dont need the water at all. the water is so u dont need to fill it all whif oil.

  • So, use lamp oil,(flammable liquid) a lamp wick, and lamp nuts. Then assemble a lamp which has a very high centre of gravity. Which, when knocked over becomes a Molatov cocktail. We're firing (literally) on all cylinders now honey!

  • You know what my problem was? The oil wasn't filled to the top of the bottle, once I filled the neck up all the way, viola! After 1/2 hour or so, I need to pour more oil in. I burn my almost every night, LOVE THE IDEA, thanks. yeah, I think I'm gonna dump the water out as well, more oil then, but whoopty-do. I use canola oil mixed with ground cinnamon-both bought from the dollar store, cheep and smells really good when its burning.

  • Silly comments... Great video btw! I found it to be very helpful! Much Love and Respect*

  • Id like to see her tits

  • meh

  • awsome lighter XD

  • tits

  • this didn't work for me, the wick kept spattering from the oil being mixed with water. I tried it with straight up oil and the wick kept burning out after about 15 seconds :(

  • @MsMikeysMom Did you try using a new wick; it might have soaked up a lot of water. Personally, I don't know why you [we] need to use water at all. I would welcome an answer from anyone who knows...[pls be nice, I'm just asking :-) ].

  • @avallonmist Because the wick didn't go to the bottom of the bottle the oil will float on top of the water. Less oil to fill the bottle.

  • Ha!...and I have been throwing those bottles away...thanks for sharing.

  • plus the oil dosnt mix with water so you dont have to fill the bottle to the top with oil

  • Why add water to the oil?

  • what is the water for?

  • omg cool lighter

  • To make the lamp safer: If the bottle came with a screw on cap, drill a hole through the cap. After threading on the 1st nut, slip on the cap, then the washer & then the 2nd nut. You can then place the cap back onto the bottle. You can do the same with a corked bottle by drilling a while in the cork & then sliding the long end of the threaded rod through the cork.

  • i did that with a beer botol and a rag , the glass shatterd when i opend the gradge door, (not a good day)

  • will it work with olive oil?

  • @magnusXbane yess it will work with olive oil, gas(dont use that in the house),veg oil,and diseal.

  • @magnusXbane No... :-( It didn't for me anyway.

  • @magnusXbane yes, anything that's flammable which is a liquid

  • @magnusXbane good question about the olive oil. Especially since I HATE olive oil. May as well just it for decorating and functional purposes.

  • @magnusXbane are a tard ass? is vegtable oil flamable?

  • @magnusXbane yes

  • @magnusXbane yes it will

  • Nice!

  • this is amazing!

  • ok, maybe a silly question... if the wick slips down with the bottle blow up?

  • no the bottle wont blow up, theres not enough oxygen in the bottle to keep the fire going inside the bottle and even if the wick did get to the lamp oil the flame would still go out the same way as water puts out fire. plus lamp oil isnt all that combustable

  • Could a white shoe lace be used as a wick?

  • Use a cotton shoe lace for best results. Oh and fray the end a little

  • thats how they make motal cocktails

    (fire bombs)

  • yeah, they just add something a little more...uh volitile

  • molotov?

  • a molotov is a fire bomb

  • which is my point, you said motal? what's that?

  • typo soryy i ment molotov

  • lol thats a funny lighter

  • citronella oil is fine right?

  • I know another trick you can do with a wine bottle, getting drunk. Doesn't work with empty bottles though.

  • very cool and romantic. why did you put water in it though? is it just to add weight or use less oil?

  • the reason for the water is that the oil flotes on top and therefor you don't have to use much oil

  • Used cooking oil can be used also. This way you no longer need to throw used oil (which is not good for the environment).

  • right on but u cud make that oil into biodiesel i have a great lamp made of an iced tea bottle running on it fine

  • che got the lighter at ace

  • can you use olive oil or vegetable oil?

  • lamp oil burns cleaner

  • Lamp oil! You want it?

  • yeah...and throw it to some thing you want to burn....

    come on ! it's a molotov cocktail...

  • I made this in a few minutes ago using an Absinthe bottle. Nice tip to salvage a cool looking bottle

  • I have been wondering what to do with that bottle of Dom that I got from my honeymoon

  • nice idea...

    cool lighter!

  • I love this idea. You can also use pommace olive oil as fuel. One thing though, these bottles are too tall and unstable.

  • fill the bottom with sand

  • I'm thinking the same idea as mustard152, I 'see' a business with this idea. Painted Wine Bottles! Thanks!

  • Seen them at craft fairs.

  • Great idea!

  • That's cool! HAhah.. Recycle! woot!

  • could u use any tall with skinny tops glass bottles cause i have ton of them

i think i could make my own oil lamp making bisiness

  • how cute!!! romantic dinner anyone?
