thats true , id really love to do this but it just looks like a shit ton of work to do , and it looks like someone that has some what of experience with this stuff can only do it , or shud be doing it , it is really easy to fuck up the steering wheel by doing stuff like this, even showing this video i bet you most kids that own this wheel would fuck the wheel up, after seeing the new logitech g27 im throwing in the towel an selling both my xbox and my wheel and purchasing the ps3 and the logitech
Sorry!, just watched your vid again and my pcb is in a different place to yours! As I said before, I had to remove mine!. Cheers again, all play now gone!
Done the mod, thanks, but you failed to mention you had to remove pcb as the back of the motor fouls it, and also with an 8 mm hole running through the tube, I couldn't get the steering wheel wire back through. So had to drill it out to 8.5 mm. Just a suggestion, thanks for the vid!
hi thanks for putting this up i have just made the tube and put my wheel back together and its why better no play at all , i made my tube a shade bigger and pressed it in so i didnt have to solder it . thanks for the fix because its been driving me mad
@pinchemain00 Yes it is, like you can move your steering up and down a little... and when there is a lot of vibration (like in dirt) is makes a lot of noise and isn't smooth at all.
@pinchemain00 I don't know, but I would do the bering mod if I disassemble all my steering wheel... I'm planning to do this mod, I'm searching for a good bering...
I think he just improved the movement of the wheel by removing the movement that I have noticed (How it acts like there is a gap) Now if Only I could work out what is causing the pedals for my controler to be unresponcive...
@qazqaz112 Tube total length 96mm (slimer side + wider side), internal diameter 8mm all the way, slimer side outer diameter 10mm X 40mm long, wider side outer diameter 11mm X 56mm long.
@dhstandard22 may be the steering postion sensor is off 1 tooth, check the photo in my video at 2:24, I had also off centered at the first time reassemble.
@shane239two Just open up and check for any worn, and found that the original hub design is too weak, so I decided to make a shaft to limit it's free play.
um do u have any other mods like maby how to make the streeing wheel turn 900 degress or more then the stick one is cuzz its pissing me off lol but thnsk for the vid hoepfully when i get mine ill do this
Tube total length 96mm (slim side + wider side), internal diameter 8mm all the way, slim side outer diameter 10mm X 40mm long, wider side outer diameter 11mm X 56mm long.
Machine shop my ass. Home Depot and buy a bolt that fits in the hole and trim it down. Wrap the bolt in some good ole duct tape if you have to and your set.
I got a force feedback steering wheel yesterday, and I honestly thought it was broke with the play in the wheel, it looks like a really easy thing to fix. the manufacturer should fix it.
I totally agree with shalashaskasaiz and gunny556fly, I wouldn't risk to ruin the racing wheel, because it works fine with the 360 wireless receiver for pc :)
You can say this when your Xbox wheel is still new...but no, the center hub will got loose when only slight worn out was found ...now all of my xbox friend want me to help them to kill the free play.
The problem is it's design, the center shaft inside the hub is too short and it will become loose, too much free play on the steering wheel like a joy stick
At the very first begining, I also want to combine two bearing into this design, but the plastic hub needs to be precision drilling, to cut away some material from the plastic hub inner hole, but it seems that the plastic hub material is not strong enought to hold the bearing tight, so I just use the tube and give up the bearing, but it still works fine !
you should check out lococnc. he has a very good tut on how to machine all the parts. i was thinking about heating the hub to expand it enough for the bearing to fit. I don't know if that would work.
lol how the hell am i gonna build a tube from scratch like that? nice work thou, if that happened to my steering wheel, ill just go out and buy a new one.
im thinking of getting that wheel becouse fanatec 911 wheel is a bit too pricey for me.i wanna know if its a good buy,if it plays well an if it has a deadzone.if it does, can it be fixed thru the settings??reply back if you can thanks
It plays well, but not 900 degree turning, I don't understand waht is "dead zone", the fix in this video is not fixing the dead zone, but fixing the loose steering hub.
No, after a period of time, the center hub of the steering wheel will become loose, feels like a joystick (not turning the steering wheel but hold tight, feels like a see saw), except that, all steering wheel fuction and effect had no problem. If you search the video of Xbox steering wheel, especially while in the middle of a game, you will see that free play !
My Xbox 360 steering wheel warranty is expired already. I did not use it for over a year due to too much free play in its original design, and I want to fix it befor Forza 3 launch.
