If you guys are stuck on this mission, here are 2 steps to help you pass it!

1. Go to 'Opitons'. Go to 'Display'. Go to 'Advanced'.

2. Turn off 'FRAME LIMITER'.

Ta-Da! FRAME LIMITER OFF will give you full speed of all vehicles

When you think you are near to that plane you should steer right or left a bit, you don't have to fly directly towards the plane because you will lose most of your speed when your about to turn. You can fly directly into the corona if you are able to see the plane from a larger distance.

I hate this mission also. I passed it by approaching the plane at a higher level and then doing a very sharp bank turn until I come all the way around back to it. Then I just followed it and descended down into the ring.... I'm on a PC using the the keyboard, so the plane is hard as heck to control.

This is how I beat this mission.

Flying as high up as is possible is good so that you can catch up with the jet when in passes you and you fly down.

After failing this mission multiple times I decided to change the view from where you see the plane, to where you do not. This helped me locate the jet and guide me into the jets corona. The first time I used this view which I usually dislike I was able to beat it.

It took me 20 sum tries to beat this mission.
