  • 'tis such a harsh lesson that A-H should not have been broken up. Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia were not fit successors to the Dual Monarchy.

  • Not only the video itself is moving. The realising that with this funeral, the old ways of Europe were buried forever. This was the last Emperor of the truly old school. The Funeral of an emperor, and a 1000 year old tradition.

  • Part of the eerieness--the royalty from various countries marching in this funeral procession had themselves only a couple of years left on their thrones, before the world was rearranged without them.

The women's veils--they were black but transparent. You would have been able to see their faces. The age of the film makes them look darker than they were.

  • QUESTA ERA LA VERA EUROPA, NON QUELLA DI OGGI. A. E. I. O. U.

  • @TheZoopsia Amen!!!

  • Wo kann man dieses Video erhalten?

    Danke!

  • he was the most autocrative emperor of his time.

that is why he was not able to deal the nationalities within his empire in the right manner.

  • Hey, you misspelled Archduke, you said Archdike. And dike is a bed word in the English language. You might wanna change that.

  • He will always be missed in Galicia.. Late Austria-Hungary was a precursor of the EU.. freest Empire of Europe.. not to mention our most beautiful Empress.. surprised that whom we used to call "German Austrians" don't thrive of that pan European Hapsburg's tradition..

  • it's a eerily old video

  • @TruthNotMedia Islam is an utter nonsense religion. Muslims should just go on xtube, masturbate, and forget their pagan god and that mohamed who was probably just some junkie whore. all those bitches in black are just crying out for a good raw fuck and a load of semen in their pussies. sluts.

  • @TruthNotMedia Also: the veils look much more opaque given the quality of film available in 1917. They would have been much more translucent in person.

  • @TruthNotMedia Fuckin' muslims....

  • @bradleyjm44 what happened to " tolerance" and "freedom of speech"? or you rub the shit in peoples' faces when defending your filthy gay and drug lifestyle?

  • @DannyTallGuy Who said anything about my alleged gay/drug lifestyle? And I'm just saying, typical Muslims to claim that the Earth revolves around them. These women are Christian, NOT Muslim. And I'll be damned to Hell if I let any Muslim dirty their good name by calling them Muslim -- i.e., heretic pagans. Muslims worship a false god and revere an immoral and extremely false prophet, viz. Muhammed. He is in Hell. So, yeah, FUCKIN' MUSLIMS.

  • @TruthNotMedia You complete fool. In the civilised world, black is a colour of mourning, and veils were traditionally worn by women at times of mourning. While black is still worn, the style of attire has moved with the times and veils are no longer worn. It is not Islamic attire; your nonsense religion has nothing to do with it.

  • Franz Joseph's direct descendant, Otto Habsburg-Lothringen, died today. I understand he was four years old when he walked in this procession, probably one of the last survivors.

I am American because my Serbian grandfather didn't want to fight for Franz Joseph. RIP all.

  • That is quite amazing footage you are providing here. I am deeply moved by it ~ having been born in Austria. Thank you!

    Hello from Canada!

  • @TruthNotMedia MOREOVER ,IF YOU KEEP ON INSISTING THESE WOMEN DRESS ACORDING THE ISLAMIC DRESS CODE ,I'LL THROW AWAY YEARS OF FASHION HISTORY JUST FOR YOU ,AND IN ORDER TO PLEASE YOU AND MAKE YOU FILL YOU HAVE TRUTH IN YOUR MOUTH ,I'LL LIE TELLING YOU THEY DRESS LIKE ISLAMIC WOMEN!!!!HAPPY? YOU JUST INSULT AND THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO UNDERLINE YOUR INCAPABILITY TO DEAL WITH SOMETHING DIFFERENT FROM YOU....PLEASE...TRY TO LIVE IN PEACE.

  • @TruthNotMedia HOW CAN YOU TELL I LET MEN TREATING ME LIKE AN OBJECT?JUST BECOUSE I'M A WOMAN I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ENOUGH INTELLIGENT TO DEAL WITH A MALE WORLD?OR BECOUSE I'M ITALIAN?YOU SHOULD STOP REASONING TROUGHT FLAG ,RACE,AND NATIONALITY...AND START DEALING WITH PEOPLE FOR WHAT THEY TRY TO COMMUNICATE...THERE ARE ITALIAN FANTASTIC MEN WHO REALLY LOVE WOMEN AND RESPECT THEM...DON'T LET YOUR MIND BEING CONTAMINATED WITH CLICHè...THEN ,IF YOU DISLIKE WEST WHY DO YOU LIVE IN USA AND EU?

  • @TruthNotMedia moreover...wasn't maometto bornt in 570 AFTER CHRIST ?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!there in no logic ,no history no evidence in what you say.....are you joking me?coran was written pretty much 500 years later than the gospel....not wanna say that the gospel is in some way believeble.....than you said my dna is 95 % arab...but arab is a language not a race....

  • @TruthNotMedia they aren't dress like islamic women....they just wear a black veil ,sign of sorrow for the dead emperor and not of submission!!!they are dressed to toe becouse that was the fashion it was early 1900!!!!!in europe as sign of sorrow people wear black and man high uniform.......sorry, in europe women had never hide their body ,and nobody force them to do it!!!!!

  • Where were there children?

  • What Chant is this? Its so beautiful

  • @crusader221 Kyrie Eleison (Lord, have mercy)

  • @crusader221 oh and I forgot this is gregorian chant but you can find also the orthodox chant with the same name on YT

  • History went all wrong on 28 June 1914! I would gladly give my own blood to be able to go back in time to prevent the disaster of Sarajevo.

  • @TruthNotMedia Evidently It is not a islamic dress but a mourning one, used only for funerals and it is not required by christian doctrine. Women wore never that way in dayly life, not even in the Middle Ages, and even for funerals they wore that way only during ceremonies. And regards mens, they wore a black ribbon on the arm. This women's suit was used only for the funeral, then they wore in black a few months, meanwhile the ribbon men's was required for several month.

  • @storicus My question was an educational question not an inquiring one so you respond with brazen ignorance and bigotry. I'm specialized in European history, the real history, not the Zionist version.

European royalties dressed in "modesty" and lived up to high moral standards, nudity was not tolerated and the way artists depicted most of them was untrue. Most European dignified ladies covered their faces, imitating the highest modesty habit, Islamic rules.

  • Franz Joseph remember about Solferino and San Martino....LOSER!!!!!!

    W l'ITALIA!!!!!

  • @SOYUZ1968 HAHAHAHA, Onore a Radetzky e Onore all'Imperatore Francesco Giuseppe. Povero italiota,nasconditi.

  • W L'Italia! Death to General Radetzky and Franz Joseph....

  • Austria est imperare omnia universa!!!!

  • To NB26,

Don't be angry, my friend. I just forgot this ..In any case, I respect all of AH history, and many of my people lived in that empire. But you started first, with insults and I just answered in each style.

In this summer I will be in Wienna. I hope it will be beautifull moments.

Best wishes for you. It's not necessery for us to be enemies.

  • Again to Goran -- what did the Serbs achieve by this murder? They were involved in a war from which they suffered so much, and then the Allies "rewarded" them after a similarly bad diplomatic issue which brought yet another pest to you -- communism -- by agreeing to accept Tito and not to support the King's Government. So Karadjordjevic are so unimportant in the view of the dynasty which ruled since Charlemagne and who are still, if not Emperors, more present and respected in Europe.

  • God I could never have expected that y little comment would spark such a debate. It only shows how the House of Habsburg still exists within history. Moreover, Archduke Otto von Habsburg, the Heir to the Throne, was elected to be a lifelong president of the European Parliament since he was amongst those who initiated the idea of European integration. He was also supportive of the Jews during WW2, and prosecuted by the Nazis.

  • Not true. Holding an honours degree in modern history I have to say I have always admired Austria-Hungary; and their efforts in The Great War were splendid. Please do not think that the BBC is in any way reflective of the British nation. It is not. It is a left-wing political broadcaster.

  • @Wotansrabe666 That is wrong of course. The BBC has very very little knowledge of their own history save an except a whitewashed view of Britain's role in the world. All the whitewashed nonsense of bringing civilization to the world, and none about the astonishing cruelty that British overlordship that it represented to everybody else.

  • @0GT70 We notice that you do not know the history of western painting, western women wear the veil mandatory leave from the Middle Ages. Marie Antoinette wearing veil? Catherne II of Russia, Maria Theresa of Austria? Isabel la Catolica? etc etc. These are the contributions that bring us Arabs

  • This video sends shivers down my spine... It's really moving, because with Kaiser Franz Joseph a generation and an era has died, along with all the moral values which were comprised all over Europe by the 'Victorian life'. Things have never been the same ever since and I'm affraid they will never be. I hate that I was born too late!

  • y women cover their face ?

  • @motamaredah ,

It's a sign of mourning & respect for the deceased.Admittedly, many European & other western nations seem to wear highly 'over-the-top' mourning dress, especially high ranking members of society. If you seek out footage of the 3 women of at the centre of the British monarchy when they attended the funeral of King George 6th,in 1952,they also wore such mourning dress. And,women in predominantly catholic countries still wear the mantilla,a similar head veil of black lace.

  • I have watched many of these WWI videos, and the overwhelming majority of the posts in them show that hardly anybody is happy with the results of that war. What were you thinking, Gavrilo?

  • The British government is corrupt as they come. They sacrificed everything and and lost as well. The greed and corruptness contributed to fall of royal houses and the deaths from Louis XIV to Czar Nicholas II. God protect our sovereign Czar Nicholas II

  • @chaoui2france There weren't any Msulims in Austria were there..and they are veiled because they are in morning..who is queen..im confused?

  • Prima.

    Schleier + Trauerschleier= Schleier Niqab

  • In conservative regions, at funerals it is still common to wear a "black veil".

In German we call it "Trauerschleier", (veil of sadness)

It is a symbol of sadness worn by the daughters/wife/mother. maybe it's purpose is also to hide the crying and to relief them from communication

  • This is the truth to a lot of them trying to look at the veil that these women how to wear the hijab, a princesses and wives of kings

  • islam = the truth

• Rebekka?

  • TU FELIX AUSTRIA NUBE!!!

  • All of the peoples under the Hapsburg prospered. Idiot British doomed Europe to another world war by destroyng Hungary and Austria. Funny how they wanted self-determination for all but Austria and Hungary.

  • 1:13 - The four year old Otto von Habsburg.... soon he will turn 98.

  • I live in a constitutional monarchy and, though I have strongly socialist opinions, I like very much the constancy that a monarchy provides. I would not like to see it go. Tradition is important to human beings.

  • @Augie47 I love you Augie47. Finally I found a socialist (or "left-wing") person that agrees that tradition is important to human beings. You see, people here in Europe are loosing their "touch". It's a bit of extremes - eradicate all royals because they're undemocratic. But it is democratic to have corrupted Republics that don't serve the people. It's just for you to have that feeling you elect another corrupted bastard who had to lie, cheat, bribe and stab to make his way up.

  • @takatof They're veiled for mourning. It was a custom that no longer exists. The practice of a woman wearing a veil in western culture is now limited to the three minutes it takes for her to walk down an aisle gowned for her wedding. And even then it's becoming positively rare.

  • @takatof Maybe you should think: This is only the way they dress when mourning. Where would we go to if everyone could hide her identity? To darkest Middle Ages.

    100 years ago.- now gone

    Special occasion - death

people don´t like the idea of falling back to these dark times

The fact that you don´t see this immediately means you have no idea of what civilization and the progress thereof is. Teachers in europe´s schools have been pathetic in conveying these things

  • women were wearing like the hejab of moslem women

  • the galician jews (and their descendents) remember him very fondly!!!

(in hebrew: May they splendor of the Emperor shall rise)

  • I like the labels of some of the dignitaries and relatives like Emperor Karl and Empress Zita (who lived into the 1980s), and allies like King Ferdinand of Bulgaria.

  • austria high point of high civilization of mankind.

  • Many thanks storicus for posting this video. It must be a very sad day in Austria and I am moved by the music in particular. It is amazing that you are able to post an event that occured in 1916 for us in 2010 to view.

    Once again gracias

  • thank you storicus for posting this video. This is amazing.

  • es lebe gavrilo princip

  • Hail der Kaiser!North East of Italy Semper Fidelis!

Was wuerdest du damit anfangen?

  • I am amazed how clear this video is, with no quick movements or flickering!!!!

  • Straordinario documento, grazie !

  • This is a valuable video.

    Thank you for posting.

  • If Austria-Hungary had at least a respectable military, WW1 might have been an entirely different story. Early A/H success could have ended WW1 in less than 2 years with them victorious. As a BBC documentary says Germany was "Shackled to a Corpse". Not taking sides here, but I always wonder why A/H was eager to fight a larger war they were so unprepared to do?

Silly, silly aristocratic politicians I guess!

  • @gorangeorg serbia just wanted to rule over all slavs....and austria was against this idea of nationalism...no reason to kill our prince...but as the english historian john keegan wrote, serbia was a barbarian and undeveloped country (and after the 1990ies there it no daubt that it still is)

  • @holesandt1 Can you tell me something about WW2 and German crimes, and about holacaust, and about Hitler who was Austrian...and after that you can tell me about Serbs and their crimes...after Croatian crimes in Jasenovac you can tell me something about barbarian and undeveloped country. Serbia was free country before Hungarians, for example...if you know history you would be able to know this fact...

    Best wishes from Serbia!!!

  • Austria was a great country once, but now it´s a pitty and I as austrian want South Tirol back.

    Stupid Italians

  • @paterike you need to study your history a little bit. Start with the Spanish inquisition the holocaust of the Native Americans and disenfranchisement and starvation of the Irish

  • @Chazranman

I think you should review your European History.

Here is a funeral of an Austro-Hungarian Emperor.

  • @paterike Great, you started the 30 years war; thus, assured that all germans would be fragmented until Bismark. Hapsbergs with Spanish gold slattered germans for thirty years. They really never recovered. Today more people speak Portuguese than German. Martin Luther and the Hapsbergs were like putting two cats in a bag, and drowning them.

  • @paterike yea I agree

Mal sehen was ihr Neutralen sagt!

  • @paterike

    und Triest?

  • @paterike Long live The Habsburgs!

  • He was one of the greatest Emperors in Europe and the Head of one of

the oldest Houses. The UK and the Russians could not stand it, being mere

late-comers (parvenu status of Saxen-Coburg and Romanoff is obvious), so they made a pathetic puny ex-pigs-,merchents' dynasty of

Serbia (Karadjordjevic) against which my aristocratic ancestors were, organise this

terrorist act which destroyed one of the best states in Europe.

  • @NB26

I respect the death of averyone, and I didn't want to say anything about this video...but you began , first...

At the end, my dynasty Karadjordjevics fucked your dynasty and it was a great fucking, the best in Europe...

    That's it...you morron

  • Now to reply to you dear Goran -- firstly, who were Karadjordjevic in the 17th century >? Did they read or write then?

My ancestors knew your Royal Family before WWI and were highly respected by them, and I personally know HRH Prince Alexander now. Yet, even the Serbian historians now admit that the Sarajevo assassination was planned in Belgrade. King Peter I made sure to eliminate all the members of the group formed around Apis to erase the proofs of this.

  • say what you want about these royals but during the 1000 years they ran things there wasn't any holocosts, no genosides. this is the family who hired peoples like mozart and other artists

  • no my friend if you check the internet you will see that the head of serbian intelligence was the one behind assasination of franz ferdinand was a leader of black hand terrorist group. killed because they wanted to force boznia & hertzogevia to become part of serbia against their will- but i know serbia teaches this differently then the rest of the world

  • I know the background and I didn't mean he was solely responsible, just given your appreciation of his family its quite ironic that it was him who at least formally started all that mess.

  • @Gosudar well, fuck ypu serbia fuck you piece of shit country

  • No what. Maybe the Conquest of America, the Slavetrade, the Herrero Genocide, Tamerlame etc etc etc didn't happend at all, . wow

  • >>danich45

I assure you, there were genocides and there were holocausts, maybe not on the scale of what you had in the 20th century, but that's just progress - we're finding ever better ways of killing ourselves. Also we're finding better ways to put an end to that process, and going back to monarchical way of running things is not a step forward.

And by the way, Mozart was struggling all his life to make ends meet and that's also why he died and while this family could prevent it, they didn't!

  • @danich45 I think you're wrong saying "during 1000 years" because in 16th century the Holy Roman Empire was ruled by Charles V (King of Spain). During Charles' reign were the conquerors of America, like Hernán Cortés and Francisco Pizarro. They killed many indigens and it was a genocide.

But i'm agree that they weren't so bad...

  • @danich45 I am sure that the monarchies of Europe had their shortcomings and faults, but simply turning them upside down and creating a vacuum was not the solution either. The First World War aptly has been described as the event by which Europe agreed to commit suicide.

  • @mindspring57 Will Europe and the world ever recover from WWI?

  • @belianis Hard to believe... Though I hope so! Everything has changed since the WWI. In bad, of course.

  • @danich45 Go to IMDB.COM; look up NICHOLAS AND ALEXANDRA, and read the post that I, HijodelCid, wrote regarding the SCHIZOPHRENIC 20th CENTURY. In it I ask why was the 20th century such an atrocity, and someone gives an answer that I think is worth reflecting upon.

Maria-Theresia, Franz I waren Topplitiker. Bin auch ein gr. Fan vom Otto!

  • Naja ich muss sagen der beste Kaiser war er nicht aber trotzdem war er ein guter Kerl;

(aber hätt i, wär i, dät i ...)

  • @Zeobit stimmt. pflichtbewusstsein bzw.

  • Beautiful Kyrie from the Mass in Honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, IX, Cum Jubilo. Impressive video. Thanks for posting.

  • IMHO: The last emperor of the S.R.I.N.G. was Franz, who "abdicated" in 1806 following the War of the Third Coalition 1805 and ensuing pressure from Napoleon.

  • if your would know the idea, the sense of the S.R.I.N.G., your would know, the it can't be ended by the emperor himself and alone. it's a union between throne and altar! the popes never accepted!

  • You hit the mark citing idea. It was in/at the end merely an idea, a concept bordering mythology. A regulatory tool with in its late life weak moral authority pertaining to practical policy. As it was erected by a sovereign it could be dissolved by one even if in non-compliance with statutory requirements. What do you mean the popes never accepted? They were in conflict with the Reich from the outset be it owing to the aspirations of sacrality or otherwise.

  • The Holy Roman Empire did not survive the Napoleonic Wars, so Karl I was the Last Emperor of the Austro Hungariam Empire

  • ... and king of hungary naturally

  • I think that was the wife of Karl I Zita

  • I think it is either empress Zita or one of his daughters......

  • Empress Zita, Otto and son Karl (Franz-Joseph's successor)

  • It´s really Zita and Otto, but not his son. Karl was a nephew, Franz Joseph´s son was called Rudolf and commited suicide in 1889. Rudolf was married with Stephanie, princess of belgium. They onlyhab a daughter called Elisabeth. So one of his nephews (Karl) became the next empror.
