I don't think the decrease in fly size had much to do with oxygen level. I think it was the appearance of birds, providing an upper limit on insect size. Imagine how long a big, slow, fat fly would last around a hungry bird.

And btw, sunlight isn't destructive to EVERYTHING. Your body needs it to make vitamin D. And Chlorophyll (not chloryphyll) isn't too complicated as a molecule, rather, the pathway it uses is much much MUCH more complicated (but that's what evolution can do for ya) I'll continue in my next post.

Obviously, you know that chlorophyll is a light sensitive pigment that plants use to convert sunlight into usable energy. There are many types of chlorophyll. All plants have chlorophyll a, and most have chlorophyll b. There are other types, but they are not of our concern and would only support evolution anyways (so i'll just focus on plants). Chlorophyll a absorbs blue and red light the best, hence the green colour of plants (the reflected light). Continued on next post.

When light is shined on chlorophyll a, it absorbs enough energy to emmit an electron, which then enters the electron transport chain. I'm not gona get into the chain, because that's too much to type in just 500 spaces, and alot of work. But that's a basic overview of chlorophyll.

Porphyrin's are naturally occurring and can form spontaneously. This is where i made my mistake, because the porphyrin section of chlorophyll has to undergo slight modification to become protochlorophyllide (the exact mechanism isn't known) and then photochlorophyllide reductase adds the appropriate phytol side chain.
