Oi, I wouldn't know.. I am not exactly "pleasing to the eye" so using looks and/sexuality to advance a career or anything??Bit outside my expertise.. dunno.. I think I wouldn't like it if I got f.i. promoted on the basis of my "muscular physique" (whahahahahaha) or, if I was a girl, my boobies or bum.. instead of on the basis of my accomplishments.
Have to admit though, I do understand people that do it, and sometimes they aren't even aware of it... it's biz as usual for bo' peeps.. I guess
I like to use my "smile" and personality. Like you said if you have the "ta-tas" then it's all in how you play your look. All of us have something that makes us stand out (maybe not from the crowd) and make ppl take note. I see nothing wrong with that. Men try to use their looks, charm, and physique. I personally love it when a men knows himself and is sure of himself. I believe that's the most important quality anyone can possess.
how can I say this. its inappropriate if you are trying to actually entice the boss sexually by flirting and giving all type of messages with your body words and gestures.....but I dont see anything wrong with being feminin specially if you are a female...pencil skirts, blouses, highheals...feminin but professional...miniskirt lowcut blouse and club heels is just over doing it
Everyone always uses all aspects of their personality to get what they want. It's human nature, a bilogical imperative, however it's about delivery. You can do most anything IF you keep it classy. Nina Simone's Sugar in My Bowl as opposed to My Neck, My Back style, does that make sense?
oh and i was talkin about natural sex appeal by the way, not anything forced to get your way. I think if you have it, you have it, if not then you just don't. I definitely think if you have a natural way with people, of course it is used. It speaks to the character of the person as to how you use it, for manipulation or for good
Think sex appeal doesn't necessarily have to do with appearance. Is more about your vibe-natural energy you give off. There've been times I been in the store with hoodie sweatshirt on & jeans feeling good about myself, & get guys flirting, extra personal attention in the stores. I'm like wow. Other days not really feeling myself and that's what I get back to me. Definitely think its more of a vibe thing and less to do your appearance, even tho is part of it cuz i am cute. lol
I have worked in Corp America since 1983 (yeah, I'm up there a little) and I would never use that to get ahead b/c I would always wonder if they promoted me based on my abilities or my breasts. Plus, being too flirty or a little sexy can backfire on you. In this politically correct climate, you just never know how a person is going to take you. I wouldn't tone my fem appeal down, but I wouldn't flaunt it for promotion either.
if you have sex appeal it does give you some advantages no matter where you are work school the club out shopping etc. if i go anywhere dress up men treat me very nice but if im dressed down they dont really pay me any attention example i was shopping and i had on a "sexy cute outfit" my hair was down and every 5 minutes a guy would ask me if i needed help finding n e thing the next week i went to the same store with sweats and a tshirt on ..hair in a ponytail and no one said anything to me
Alright Im up doing this Psychology proposal thats due in like 3 hours(horrible right) and this def woke me up so thanks for the 4 min break. Also on the topic, I wouldnt say its wrong because the responsibility falls on the employer, if their easily swayed by that then they shouldnt be at that position. If your saling something Im not to against it because again its the person your directing it at fault if they fall for it. Now it could always backfire and end up bad for you so why even try it
oh and another thing i wanted to add, was that u may not realize it or not but i watch ya vids cuz i think you are pretty (n NO im not a lesbo) and its def a plus that you have personality, n idk if its just for the cam, but you are def someone to watch, first bases off of appearance and then personality!!!
yeah erm i dont think there is a problem with dressing and showing a bit of flesh to help advance your career i just think if one does this they should be ready for the consequences if it gets out of hand personally i think everyone should dress their best anyways just coz they owe it to themselves to look good at every given opportunity =)
Hey i say to eaches own. personally, i wouldn't do it. But then again sometimes you can't help how cute you are, it works in your favor without you even knowing it (lol).
Other then da entertainment industry, I dont believe theres any real advantage in a woman using her sex appeal to up her pay. The only advantage it provides is betta treating from the opposite sex which many of us already know. Ive learn over the years that if your boss/sup is a female, sometimes it can create unnecessary tension. Jealous I guess? With my pervious employer, my female boss always showed favoritism towards the male coworkers which they used to their full advantage i.e. time off
I honestly think that its easier for a man to use his sex appeal/charm to up his pay in any industry. Women have the challenges of avoiding sexual harassment, being label, and detest from female coworkers.
I personally don't have an issue with "dressing up" for my job. Though my experiance may be different since I'm 18. I feel the younger you are the more lax your boss is to the dress code. But personally I don't see anything wrong with showing a little cleavage or some leg as long it is appropriate. For instance I have seen women who dress professionally but look frumpy. Yet at the same time I have seen those who can be professional and attractive at the same time, which is what I aim for.
Sexiness comes with confidence and maturity. Sexiness is a person who is always in control of her situation, always knowing what to say and making the perfect moves in perfect timing. It's an attribute that can't be obtained with the change of clothing and the styling of hair.
That's definitely true, everything you said is sexy, but just like clothing and style of hair, it's not an exhaustive list. I guess everyone needs to determine on their own what they feel makes them appealing to the outside world.
Ok, I have mixed feelings on this. It annoys me when some women in the office will talk about dudes behind their backs and then when they in the dude face, they flippin their hair and flirting etc. Just to get ahead. However, if I was in a situation where David Letterman(fyi I'm in the tv biz) made a pass at me, I would take advantage of that situation. I ain't even gonna lie. I wouldnt sleep wit him but I'd flirt enough to get contacts, etc. I just wouldn't flaunt it in front of everyone.
Great topic chic =) I think that using what u have to get what u want can only take u so far. After a few times of dressing inappropriately, it wont be long you'll be known as the 'whore' of the office, or get talked about under your clothes. There are too many nice styles out now that flatter u in other ways to where you can still be feminine (or masculine) to where you dont have to dress that way to get promoted or attention. You should have brains too, so put it to use along with that beauty!
i've seen this at work but have never been in a position where i felt it was a necessary tactic. and people aren't stupid, they know what game is being played. there's nothing wrong with looking your best, but being appropriate (no cleavage, pantylines, stripper hair/makeup please!). besides, sexiness is relative and not necessarily about overt gestures. a smile or laugh, eye contact, confidence are all sexy yet work great for the interview too.
We have a saying in sales, "As long as you dont come out of a clients office buttoning up your blouse or zipping up your pants, you havent gone to far." I live by this one.haha Its just life, and we are all human.
i work in HR and trust me we "catch on"...lol. People should be professional on the job-case and point. Sexuality (unless you are in an industry that requires you to use your sexuality like modeling, entertainment, etc) should be reserved for your after (or before) hours life. performance and integrity and professionalism should be the focus.
SHOULD, and while you sound like you definitely uphold that, and I agree that things should be based on performance, not everyone is as fair as you. However, you're right about those 3 pillars. Thanks for participating.
I think, from a woman's perspective, you should def dress and carry yourself like a lady w/o goin overboard. Unless you work for yourself and then you possibly can wear whatever you like. But if you work in reg corporate America you aren't going to get taken seriously. As far as the flirting. Its a thin line. I think it's ok for a lil playful banter but don't take it too far or be too suggestive b/c let's face it, people are judgemental. ANd depending on whos judging it may cost you your job.
Ok. Here is my quick opinion cause I've got to run. As a woman who has been self-employed for the past 6.5yrs I have to say appearance matters. Looking professional, being feminine all plays in your favor with both men & women. Be classy!
Showing cleavage & flirting is highly unprofessional & can actually backfire. People won't respect or take u seriously. There must be a balance. Look ur best & have the brains/skills to back it up. :-)
Not that I personally have any cleavage to show, now! LOL.
But I've seen what happens to pretty consultants who show too much at the office. Dressing like they're in a Victoria's Secret catalogue. Other women will hate on them (question their necessity, put roadblocks in their way, gossip, etc.) The men will assume they are hoochies & keep them around for ego boost or wait for their turn...until the next "hot young thing" enters the picture. Yup. Seen it many times! Again, great topic, lady.
If you got it flaunt it. But in a tasteful, classy way. Be flirtatious, bubbly and feminine. Wear clothes that set you apart from a man (skirts, blouses with some cleavage, clothing that shows your womanly figure but NOT SKIN TIGHT). Be a confident woman. There's nothing wrong in that. If that gives you advancement in your career oh well, but I think every woman should do this for themselves. It's so much more attractive and raises your self-esteem.
I would if it would work. In a ideal world people should'nt have to, but we don't live in a ideal world so...
But as long as it was nothing to far. I would'nt mind dressing sexy/sophisticated it if would benefit my career but I dont think I could personally do much more than that to be honest
i'm still in college and haven't gotten so far as to getting a job at a company but I will def. be using everything that I have to get the job! I will flirt and wear something business sexyish becuase I'm gonna have bills to pay I'm not worrying about everybody else. lol
There isn't enough character count for me to even put a dent in this topic.. lol I may have to make a video response so I won't have to type like 8 comments :) lol I know all I want to say, gotta figure out which way I'm gonna do it!
At first I was COMPLETELY AGAINST it. I felt that as women we should not have to use our femininity to increase sales, get a promotion, or etc. Our expertise should be the only thing that advances us. However as I am going to be transitioning in the work place I am realistically thinking about the biased and unfair behavior that may prevent itself, so I feel that using our womanhood in a VERY SUBTLE way could be okay if used in SMALL doses. IDK I will no for sure wants I get my 1st career job :)
