  • my new favourite youtuve video! it is sooo clear and really shows the beauty of these guys really well! thank you for uploading!

  • these guys are VICIOUS lil buggers, i dub them the dicks of the sea, cuz as far as predatos go those lil ahmmers of theirs pack a HELL of a whallop, shoot these lil guys can bust open clams usually with one good solid hit

  • Damn nature, you scary.

  • I dont know why...but i find this thing fucking adorable.

  • i bet it is as delicious as it is beautiful

  • @pilaman82 They aren't great for eating but are edible, make an excellent pet though.

  • @pilaman82 I'm sure it'dd think the same way about your flesh if it were big enough, sans the beautiful aspect.

  • where can i buy one please

  • why dident he break his way out?

  • @necroimages that's obviously a peacock.. look at the colouration! It's got the classic 'leopard' spots, normal peacock colours and......it doesn't have any meral spots either, which are a huge feature of the smithii..! What even made you think it was a g. smithii?!

  • I wonder if he tastes like regular shrimp

  • @thespikything I'd say it looks more like Gonodactylus smithii.

  • Mr. Uploader, can I ask where this was filmed?

  • that mantis looks like its seen better days....

  • Imagine that stuff eat human.

  • DINNER :3

  • Aww, he has his dactyl cut off! I hope he found a caring owner and was able to grow his arms back. It'd be horrible for him to have to spend his life in there. :(

  • It's one of the cooles animals I know, among slime molds and those crabs (pistol shrimp I think) wich can snap their pincers to create a cavitation that on implosion, stunns it's enemy/prey. The water is heated by that to 5000 °C in a very small point. Those are even crazier than the mantis shrimp, but they are not so beautiful haha.

The eyes of the mantis shrimp are very great too, as already said by some people here.

  • weird looking crab like creature you got there

  • If I was ever to encounter that in my badtub I would shit myself, throw my shit on it and run away.

  • I've got the feeling those aren't for the "hobby" sale.

  • I was thinking... "This cage can't hold the mantis shri-- WHAT WHERE ARE HIS ARMS? THIS IS A TRAVESTY OF INTERNATIONAL PROPORTIONS!!"

    Whyyy? D::

....he's still really pretty though. :(

  • impressive looking shripm!

  • I want to put it on my bald head.

  • AWWWWW

  • eatable? :D

  • geeez, its arms are not cut off. they are tucked back

  • There is nothing wrong with this video and nothing was done to the mantis shrimp!

  • KILL IT

  • That thing is fucking huge!!!! But its quite pretty....til it knocks you out. I had a friend who was dumb enough to put his face on the glass of an aquarium and the little monster punched him. Dented the glass and he was on the ground with a bruise on his face.

  • @hazza3 ROFL! damn imagine if they were our size. Best boxers ever.

  • Comment removed

  • thumbs up if you thought at first that it was a computer animation.

  • Poor little fucker. You know these things can punch at 50 mph, FACT!

  • It looks amazing but are those white things it's eyes? If so that's creepy I think

  • @kriskater yup, eyes - very sophisticated compound eyes with hyperspectral vision, I believe. I imagine he sees things like predator, albeit without the targetting system.

  • @thespikything Funny, I always imagined them WITH a targeting system...

  • @kriskater They have quadraphonic vision

  • I bet that thing feels high every second of it's life

  • Agreed. The ability for anyone to publicise these things is kind of the point of crowd-sourced, social media such as this though.

  • Youtube never fails to sadden me with animal cruelty....

  • I feel sorry for it. they should have an aquarium at least bigger than that and a place to hide.

  • Looks delicious!!

  • i wonder if this shrimp tastes as good as the kind i buy at the store???

  • awesome

  • I would be scared he would break out, mug me and take my wife.

  • looks sooo beautiful... but tasty at the same time XD

  • OMG THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL! :D!! ♥,♥

  • His front appendages are there, they kinda look like a boat oar, but red

  • Asian people are well known around the world as animal torturers. Haven't you seen the sick things they do to animals before they eat them?

  • @rddaos not all asian ppl

  • ive eaten ... a less colourful version of this .....mantis shrimp. and it tastes AWESOME,i swear

  • Especially after his claws regenerate

  • who ever did that to him should stick his hand in there for a whole day

  • My parents were from Taiwan, and I used to go there in the summers. Unfortunately they don't treat animals well at all, and there is little anyone can do. I would beg my mom to let me buy the puppies and bunnies being drugged and sold on the street but where was I going to smuggle 30 animals back to the US? It's just a lack of education and a culture that looks at them differently. I always just pray they suffer as little as possible. Like this poor guy with his arms removed.

  • look at all that shell rot.. bet he didnt live that long

  • i saw shrimp in the tittle and i thought mmmm lunch and then after watching that animal was pretty cool and looks to scary to eat hahahahahaha

  • They removed it's arms?! Thats fucking revolting. Horrible cunts.

  • These things are awesome looking. Their colors are so interesting, as are they. Ferocious when it comes to their prey. But I agree that it should not be being kept in there! I hate to see a creature of ANY kind being kept in an enclosure too small to roam around enough freely. And it's horrible that they removed part of its body so that they could keep it in their weak little box. Though their punch is very strong, they don't often crack tank glass. Not often. They use that strength for food.

  • poor thing *smahes cage and puts mantis shrimp in the ocean*

  • fuckin cruel.

  • These things are amazing, not only their claws but their eyes. Go read up on their eyes, they have the most complex visual organs on the planet.

  • imagine eating that boiled with butter

  • poor little bastard :(

  • this aquarium sucks. they should not treat a mantis shrimp that way.poor guy...

  • Aw that poor thing....

  • that thing is absolutely horrifying

  • this mantis shrimp's front "flags" look hurt. this aquarium should be ashamed

  • i have one of those but i have him in a reinforced plexiglass aquarium cuz i didnt want to get his claws removed =)

  • thats fucked up

  • Aw...poor guy..His meral feathers are all torn up, and he's missing his arms! WTF?! I thought only the nasty mud-spearing mantis' were eaten! >=O

  • Whoever cutoff the mantis shrimps front arms should have his fingers cut off.

  • @Grundalizer i dont think that the one who did that even has fingers :S.

it was another mantis shrimp or any other underwater buddy

  • @Grundalizer they're arms arent cut off wtf r u talking about? the punching clubs are the bright orange parts on the side of the thorax

  • @Grundalizer you mean dick.

  • @Grundalizer i agree....but it can break the glass and kill itself in the process

  • @Grundalizer they werent cut off :/ its there those red colored pads under the head. look closely its there, neatly folded.

  • @Grundalizer Whoevery did that that should have his penis cut off.

  • Keeping a mantis shrimp in this box is sick...............

  • beautiful..but i seriously want to eat these guys,wonder how they taste..lol

  • they're eaten in japan, i know that for sure. i think i saw an ad for some for italian food too.

  • seriously, what dont japanese people eat? i bet they tried everything thats not deadly oO

  • Well.

    Pufferfish are deadly. Poison, y'know.

    They're a delicacy over there.

  • @MintySinty Now think, I heard they're like $40 live... how much are they prettied up on a plate by a professional?

  • if you try to grab them they can actually break your thumb.

  • Actually, there's different kinds of claws idffeent Mantis' have.

Bashers, and Stabbers. The basher's will not only break your fingers, they'll shatter the bones in them... the stabbers could quite easily take off your fingers.

  • I sort of wish he'd snap that glass.

  • f that shit

  • You saw this in an AQUARIUM? You mean to say an aquarium that opens displays to public visitors, or an aquarium store? If it was the former, then you really should complain, because these animals should not be kept in such small enclosures, exposed to strong lighting.

  • I hear ya... it's Taiwan though, so be glad they didn't just serve him up for lunch!

  • We eat them here in Hong Kong too. But generally the ones served up for dinner are squillas and lysiosquillinas...so lucky for him...

This one seems to have sgell disease though.

  • Well u japs eat anything u sick fuckers

  • @thespikything Hahaha I totally agree...

  • @thespikything but i guess its either die a quick death or suffer longer

  • @thespikything Personally I would rather be eaten than trapped in a small cage with people staring at me for life.

    This is worse than murder.

  • @thespikything you got to pick what one you want first...

  • @thespikything so true... and sad D:

  • @micstarz

Shouldnt imagine they'd be kept in there for long, its probably quarantine maybe.

  • @micstarz Poor creatures! They belong in the wild!

  • @micstarz

They have lobsters in similar enclosures in Waterworld in Florida.

  • @Intranetusa does that make it right?

  • @micstarz

No, it's a waste of perfectly good seafood. Right would be boiling them and covering them in butter.

  • @thegirl44

While peacock mantids do live on reefs with strong lighting, they construct burrows in the wild from which to get away from it. Without this burrow, constant exposure to sunlight stresses the animal and encourages shell rot.

The animal in the video is not for sale. It is on display in an aquarium, as the owner of this video has stated. Assuming this animal is permanently in the care of the aquarium, it should not be kept in this manner.

  • put ur finger XD!!

awesome animal!! i had one!! it killed my fishes =(

  • very nice, but not liking the fact they had to take part of his front arms and no rock for it

  • cool
