You've gotta love that about Corgan's writing: atmospheric, which i love personally, and melodically pleasing, next to genius riffs and chord progressions. no matter how simple or complex Billy's songs are, they find a way to seap threw into your soul. He's the best alt-rock writer since Bowie.
Adore is imo clearly the best album artistically, but its not as _enjoyable to listen to_ as Siamese Dream, Gish, Mellon Collie, or Machina. Zeitgeist has like 4 songs I can tolerate, which is sorta the point, its driven by the singles, following the zeitgeist of the music industry...
Oh my god, this brings back the first pumpkins shows I was a really a part of..This brings tears into my eyes. I will never forget the feeling of hearing this beautiful song and knowing that right after the show I would be taliking with Billy! Who is still my hero and forever my zero!
I agree haha. mm here Billy Corgan reminds me the singer of an animated band hiting strong here in Italy not being a million dollar production. Search for SWAVE IN THE FUTURE
Siamese dream is their best album I think, for pure rockness. Adore is really underrated, got some incredible songs on it! Siamese dream, melloncollie, and adore are their best albums IMO.
First Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadnessthen you can go with Siamese Dream, then Adore, Machina II, Machina, and if you like it, obviusly you should search for Pisces Iscariot, Gish, and Airplane Flies High. The Pumpkins was/are a band who have a lot of amazing songs, event the ones who are not in a sepecific disc, for example some of the songs of Airplane Flies High or some rarities and B-sides are truly incredible (Hardly to think why it aren´t singles)
thats true but i wouldent recommend it for people who are only beginning to listen to the S.P, i'd wait until they appreciate the other stuff THEN recommend this
Siamese Dreams was a sophomore album...therefore it should be certainly experimental....
Mellon Collie is the pumpkins' most "Grandiose" album to date. 2 Cds plus a long list of very good songs. It's just their epic moment.
But Machina is musically brilliant. To me, it grabs all the best production that Mellon Collie lacked. To me, even Siamese Dreams has better production than Mellon.
Again like I said, in Quebec, spotlights, cameras, stage is always well used.. this was not made exclusively for the band but I want you to notice how this gives energy to the still excellent smashing pumpkins performance
i guess this proves why Smashing Pumpkins can nvr rly die out. Billy is so extraordinary and just....brilliant. he changes so much in every live performance and in a way, reinvents the song he`s playing completely, no one really knows what he`s doing, but everyone loves it, which makes him one of the best lead singer and songwriter of this century!
Does anybody else think that this may be played in a different key than on the album at some points? It sounds like some pieces are played a little higher and it's really neat. Anyway, this just proves how terribly amazing the Machinas really were; the music really has been dismissed far too quickly since Adore.
I think that their new songs are not as good as this one and the old ones, but I still love them, Billy Corgan is the greatest songwriter ever. I love this song, the lyrics and the music are killer and so passioned
Most expressive and artistically used perhaps... That's why he's my favorite singer, because he uses all of the different timbres of his voice to create different moods. Every time I hear a new performance I hear how he's adapting the song to the moment he's in. That changing voice helps reinvent the song.
Unreal.. full of energy.. the whole song was/is amazing.. and the outro is insane. i love their first albums (Gish, Siamese Dream), but their new stuff is amazing too. Machina, Zeitgeist.. those are great albums. Smashing Pumpkins are alive. and this song is not a cover of Joy Division's "Transmission".
well, new order did ask billy to tour with them. it's not that absurd to call this an homage to transmission, and also on the radio by cheap trick and radio radio by elvis costello.
i of the mourning certainly belongs in the same category.
Billy's playing a Gibson Les Paul Special. I think he might have had two of these around the time this was filmed. One in standard tuning (E) for this song, and one tuned down to C for songs like "The Everlasting Gaze" and "Heavy Metal Machine"
One of the best Pumpkin´s songs ever, it´s a shame they didn´t put that ending in the song on MACHINA record although they often perform it with this ending, maybe they came up with it later on... Anyone who knows?
Smashing Pumpkins is the best band ever. All categories. I love everything they've made since Gish to Zeitgeist. Melissa is the best bassist ever, just so you know.
The magic that came from Iha and Corgan is priceless. The backing ebow tracks James created were genius. I will miss him but eh, its all about the Corgan right now
People will always argue which lineup was better, but in reality all of the different lineups have been awesome. From the original 4 to the Auf Der Maur and Ginger Reyes days to the Iha / Schroder days...My message to all that bitch about whos better, who gives a fuck. The Byrds changed lineups, Guns N Roses, Metallica, they all do it.
i dont understand why emos hate billy corgan, he fucking created their music so they can take a deep gulp and swallow his balls otherwise their shit wouldn't even exist
Iha is a great guitarist, but Billy wrote all of his parts. Billy and Jimmy are the only two members that are really needed. It would be great if the other two came back, but Billy and Jimmy are the most important.
for craps sake, i still to this day do not know why there are so many Iha fans, Iha can't write songs for shit. And his singing of "A Night Like This" show how to butcher a good song. He was a good lead guitar player but I don't miss him mainly because there are so many Emo fags out there that think he is better than Corgan. Did Iha the Fag write Galapagos? Bullet With Butterfly Wings? Disarm? Hummer? Rocket? Cherub Rock? In The Arms Of Sleep? Everlasting Gaze? I Of tThe Mourning? No.....
I'm not defending Iha, and I do agree his "A Night Like This" kills the amazingness of The Cure version, but he does deserve respect for the work he did.
Iha was good, and suited the pumpkins well. But he still should get handed the crown just because a few Emos hate Billy Corgan. Nobody should hate Billy, he wrote good songs. Many bands have had many lineups. Its a fact of life. Look at The Byrds for example, what they started with was not what they finished with.
Hey man, i don't care who is in the band as long as they write good songs...and if billy has written like 90% of the good stuff I can live with iha. No offense iha's great, but it all comes down to the song writing.
07/07/07 cant wait. so is there confirmation that Iha really is not coming back? i can deal without D'arcy but a Smashing Pumpkins album without Iha is not a Pumpkins album.
