This is one of my favorite radio shows and of course comic books. Unfortunately in the adaptation to radio the show by itself is often unclear as to what's happening. You probably fill in the gaps if you're familiar with the original works... but I guess it made it less accessible to some people early on

Sub-Mariner sounds almost Italian, which would sort of make sense, if you think about it - Atlantis would probably be pretty close to the Mediterranean.

Ha ha ha that's funny, if this was recorded today Namor would probably say, "Humans ruined the Earth, so Humans are for me to POOP ON!" And today Johnny Storm (Bill) would say, "This aquatic guy is TOAST! And that's the FACT JACK!" Anyways, my favorite voice for Sub M. is John Vernon, he also did the voice of Ironman in the 60's cartoon. Mr. Vernon for most who remember him played the dean in the movie Animal House.

I got the whole radio show on CD. It was dope for its time. Pre-Saturday Night Live for Bill Murray, but it was cool. This is what the late 70s-early 80s animated series should have been. What was Marvel thinking back in the day replacing the Torch with HERBIE?

Marvel had optioned to do a Human Torch solo movie (it never materialized) and so they didn't have the rights to use him in the 1978 cartoon. Stan came up with the idea to use a robot sidekick and Jack Kirby designed it. I don't know why antbody would make a FF cartoon without all four members.

Oh yeah, there was a rumor that they didn't use the Torch because they thought kids would set themselves on fire, but that was just a rumor.

H.E.R.B.I.E. could have been cool, but for some reason he was never shown being very powerful, and that makes no sense considering that Reed Richards is one of the smartest scientists in the Marvel universe yet he can't make a robot that was very powerful... RIIIIIGHT...;(

This was originally a RADIO drama. I guess they wanted Subby to sound very distinct from the other voices. Plus, at the time, Russkies were stock villains.
