C Garrett I've notice most black University band over Brass section over play each other . In a parade I haven't any idea what they are played. High school are doing the same thing. Listen at Ohio State 250 piece all brass band, U can hear style technique intonation and no over blowing. Southern University in my opinion has the best band amoung Black Universites. FAMU Never sound so horrible under Dr. Foster. CG

I didn't say Southern wasn't a good band. When in comes to power, they are probably unmatched. I'm talking about sound quality. In this area, they are lacking. Nobody is "hating" on Southern. It just sounds like too many parts overlap and run together. Sometimes I don't even know what section I'm supposed to be listening to! Who has the melody? It seems as if the entire band is competing with each other! And percussion being heard? Forget it! They might as well not even be back there.

Sanford has only been at NSU since 1998...their style was derived from Emory Fears...a graduate from the University of Michigan. NSU thankfully sounds nothing like SU or any of the other bands in the SWAC. So you can keep your block chords and FFF arrangements. We are doing just fine.
