Link has a net because the net is actually an important item in several Zelda games.
The "boing" sound on Necrid's weapon is meant to sound cartoony. Or at least I hope it is. Man, though, is Necrid ever a crappy design... But, this is what happens when you ask Todd McFarlane to design a character, that man is still stuck in the 90s, and not in a good way...
You heard me: The net is important. It can catch various things to be put in jars. Most notably, you can put fairies in jars, and when you let them out, they heal you. Kinda cruel, if you ask me, but you are trying to save the world...
And Xbox owners got hit with a double whammy: Necrid was available to all versions of SCII, but the unique character was different. Theirs was Spawn, another McFarlane creation, and another tragic result of the early 90s that somehow survived...
Wow! You're amazing at this. I always lose survival at battle 8 or so. And I almost NEVER win time attack. Well, extra time attack anyways, since Inferno winds up with Soul Edge Complete somehow.

Xbox needed an exclusive "mascot"-style character that fit the setting. I can only assume McFarlane offered enough money to get the spot.
