Loved this vid. Love the fact that some americans actually practice REAL Karate, and not only this "American Karate jabba-dabba-doo" crap.. Real Okinawan/japanese Karate styles, with real ranks and real skills. Loved this vid all the way through!
Getting so fed up with seeing 25 year olds with 10th degree blackbelt, when in reality, a 7th Dan would most likely be in his 60's or maybe 70's, and 10th Dan... Well, very old :P
Plus, the kata Shihan G. Campbell did at the start was just ... "OSU!!"
uchinanchu11 your post would be 100% incorrect. Shihan Campbell has absolutely zero connection to Scot Mertz. He couldn't even tie Mr. Campbell's obi. The fact that you refer to him as Renshi is why this conversation is now finished. You can also believe in you live in Disney World but it doesn't make it so!!
Rather than focusing on completely meaningless topics such as these , I sincerely hope that future posting viewers or (Ryuhokai) members become more interested in sharing meaningful, uplifting and motivating experiences, than to act as some non martial artists might . We should endeavor to raise, not lower our standards of behavior and treatment of others. Stop the conflict
I'm a longtime student of Shihan Campbell.Your post is another example of why our students stay away from these public forums.First off, one should never rely on any website when looking for information etc. on such topics.Second, Mr. Campbell is the only SENIOR licensed American to teach Ryuei Ryu in the U.S. I'm not even going to speak of higher ranking since it's irrelevant to this conversation. Shihan Campbell doesn't have to lie about his accomplishments, they speak for itself.
After speaking to a few knowledgeable instructors I stand corrected from my earlier post, Mr.Campbell is 7th dan. The site which declares him a 9th dan did so on it's own behalf and has no merit. I was also told that this is Grant Campbell's 40th yr. in the martial arts. Congrats on your success in Budo. Hey duck , you might want to check out "this guys" qualifications. They are Spot on!
i trained under shihan grant campbell for a period of six years. one of the greatest periods of time in my life. it was a time of great learning and great experiences.
..Okinawan Karate Masters Visit and video by ESPY-TV John Burke record the historic reception at Nassau Community College 1995. Organized here on Long Island by Master Takayoshi Nagamine, Matsubayashi-Ryu; Master Nick Adler, Isshinryu; Shihan Grant Cambell, Ryuei Ryu; Kyoshi Nick Racanelli, Matsubayashi-Ryu and Shihan Terry Maccarrone, Shorinryu Karate USA Ueshiro-ha; All Okinawan instructors and dojo owners.
Shinjo sensei, chairman, was the Okinawan Kumite Champion Ueichi-Ryu in 1982 Trias visit
Legendary Karate masters all brought together to promote the true essence of Okinawan Karate.I checked Grant Campbell's Karate qualifications and grades with the All Japan Karate Federation(the umbrella governing body of Karate in Japan) He's not only legit, but he's also a damn fine instructor and practitioner. This is something rarely found in American practitioners today!!
Shihan Grant Campbell: One of the finest Martial Artist around today. His knowledge and training experience make him exemplary in ability to bring authentic arts to the U.S.A. I understand he is also the only fully licensed American to teach the Art of Ryuei Ryu in the states. I wish him much continued success in his studies.Thank you for the video!!!
He is not the only licensed teacher of Ryuei Ryu, and I don't know where all these other websites are getting there information, especially since the Soke is involved with the California branch and Sakumoto Sensei is the head of the organization..... - ^ I recognize that Campbell Sensei was taught Ryuei Ryu and he is definitely a great martial artist but he is by no means higher ranking then Arashiro Sensei.
@hiddenmole76 you made interesting remarks on both of your coments. And lets not forget that Renshi Scot Mertz who is also a very good friend of Grandt Campbel is another fully licensed teacher with menkyo kaiden in Nakaima ryu or Koryu Ryuei ryu under Irei sensei from Okinawa.
Grant Campbell: one of the few foreigners to really grasp the essence of the Okinawan Arts. Love to see him perform and hear what he has to say. Nice Post!! Of course, to see the Masters all together is always wonderful as well.
The label at 3:54 is incorrect. That is Tokashiki Iken of the Gohaku-kai.
