  • @Smartyx71 you're not supposed to compare any one person to another. it's biblical. and that's not what i'm doing. i'm stating that God gave two different top notch talents to two different people. that's all. and i do have two favorites. i know of top notch gospel performers. top notch singers. top notch horn players. this does not mean i am comparing. it means i'm in awe of God and what gifts He gives. that is all.

  • three kings in one room.what a summit.i hope to see them all again sometime.many thanks.

  • What a legend

  • my fav all time jazz pianist. i thought it was chick corea but i was wrong.

  • @ballvl1 you cannot compare them dude.... and why not have two favorites?

  • The only drum play along you will ever need.

  • Oscar is so great. But of course, who can forget the two bass MONSTERS behind him!

  • (...) genial. Todas as outras palavras sobram.

  • 優しいなぁ癒される

  • If there is heaven, this is the music that probably sounds in it.

  • 6 minuti e 54 secondi di pura libertà!

  • He is like bb king, but jazz piano

  • King of jazz piano!

  • He is the Master of MASTERS.When he touched the piano keys everything were sounding as pearls.

  • The great Oscar Peterson....a jazz pianist in a class by himself! It is a delightful experience to listen to this master of the keyboard!

  • Fantastic as always, a great man with fantastic jazz and classical background showing in his beautiful tone, superb effortless seeming technique and jazz phrasing. What possible cretins could have posted a Dislike on this for goodness sake?

  • Oscar Peterson with 2 of best bass men in history...wow what a thrill to hear. Thank you.

  • Oscar Peterson vs Justin Bieber 100000000 - 0

  • It sounds good to me. :)

  • Why'd he have to die... But his music is immortal.

  • I love this so much.

  • Niels, a perfect solo!

Saluti

  • Great performance!

  • As a striving bassist myself, this is so wonderful.

  • "The Three Giants"

  • damn! they just make it look all so easy

  • his hands are like christmas trees, he just shakes them around and all these decorations come flying out

  • @2798160

    Fantastic definition!

  • @2798160 hahahaaa ..very good :-)

  • This video has really shown me the power of jazz, or at least enlightened me to how far it has evolved since its beginnings in the south. There was a time when jazz considered to the music for the coloreds, much like "gangster" rap in the 90's. Oscar was a pioneer of his time, to have a white player in his trio (i'm not informed to say he was first) and it really helped the desegregation movement. Now music like this plays in department stores as well as at parties. It has no boundaries

  • i love you ray brown =) <3

  • one of my favorite oscar pieces.

  • This is my absolute favorite Oscar creation. Amazing.

  • Happy Birthday oscar!

  • OMG WTF U ARE WATCHING OSCAR PETERSON..... STOP TALKING ABOUT JUSTIN BIEBER AND SAY OSCAR PETERSON HAS TALENT ... JUSTIN HAS NOT..... PETERSON IS COMPARED AND IS SECOND TO NOONE ... SO STOP TALKING BULLSHIT AND ENJOY HIS GREAT INTERPRETATION

  • Will those of you who are trying to impress us with your knowledge by arguing whether Brown or Pedersen is better please take your argument outside so the rest of us can enjoy both of them, and Oscar, in peace?

  • Our beloved compatriot and jazz phenom does us proud once again.TY doogit for posting this absolute gem. Enjoy our great and proud Canadian treasure that was Oscar.Peterson-.always dear to our hearts and soul. RIP brother and mentor,

  • Such gorgeous music, by all involved. Live, unaltered by electronics, and so joyous. Ahhhh, so rare, so rare.

  • I've been an Oscar Peterson enthusiast for years now, but thank you to Casey Abrams for introducing his sacred name to young people who can now watch real music and not the pop bullshit out there in this decade.

  • Seymour Lefco wrote the lyrics

  • Oscar peterson is fenomenal player...

  • At about 1:00 he finds time to grab the sweat rag during his solo. Just silly good

  • 2 double basses for extra harmonic support?

  • I think he enjoyed playing it as much as I enjoyed listening to it .........

  • @DaveEnsor I think he enjoyed playing even more, he did it his whole life. you don't listen your whole life

  • @freekvrijhof Why you have to take my positive comment to his music and put a snide edge to it ?.

  • @DaveEnsor I don't, I'm just saying what i thought when I read your comment.

  • How can anybody not like this masterpiece? Apparently apes know how to use computers now :O

  • the bass makes the piano solo nice,

and the piano makes the song great!

  • you can really tell hes enjoying himself: hes bouncing along, mouthing the rhythms, and smiling away like theres no tomorrow! Hes Great!

  • wish i was there...

  • Just never ever gets old...

  • Oooooh Weeee!

  • was also baffled when i saw the 26 dislikes.. even if ur not into jazz, u gotta just appreciate the skill, artistry and life in the performance and if u don't, well u don't know what ur missing.. long live jazz!!!!

  • When I listen to this , I forget all the problems I may have and enjoy those 7 minutes of jazz. Wonderful!

  • it's not fair how good Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen is. just not fair.

  • 26 dislikes...Do you think they hit the button just for fun? Excuse my difficulty in exercising empathy with these people, but I don't understand how you could genuinely dislike this. Even if you don't like jazz, the piano, the bass, or anything. How could someone listen to this and dislike this? Maybe they didn't listen or something.

  • @chingading Internet dissent is a way for people with no personality to express themselves.

  • @chingading It's called OPINIONS. and yes, I like this. alot

  • @LordxHasta No shit, opinions exist. I was just trying to emphasize how absolutely wonderful this video is through the curiosity of how someone's opinion could feel like this video even possibly deserves a dislike. And what i'm slightly implying here is that you're kind of stupid.

  • king

  • I've read most all of the comments here and those that are comparing Tatum to Oscar Peterson is fine and Tatum did influence Oscar's way to stardom, however, Tatum could NEVER technically play the piano nor as fast as Oscar Peterson. I've booked Oscar many, many times and many you musicians will know my name and I know many will agree. We will probably not see or hear another technician such as this in our lifetime or in this century unless a genius come along. George Michaud-Agent/Manager..

  • @Talent4U I disagree and so would O.P. and he has said as much. Art can do it both hands. Go to willow weep for me, it will change your life (1953)

  • @raleiti Exactly!

  • @Talent4U True, I only wish I had booked to see Oscar live, I never did, though I have loved his music all my life,. Just shows we have to appreciate what we have in our time. Was sad to hear the news that Boxing Day.

  • Oscar Peterson's style and technique all comes from Art Tatum, who is considered the real father of piano. Oscar is unbelievably amazing, but just saying, not like Art Tatum :)

  • C G/B C9/Bb A7 Fm/Ab C/G G7 C

  • absolutely awsome.a draw between nhop an ray.my two alltime heroes alongside THE man himself .all passed.what a crying shame.three giants resting now.many thanks.

i'd rather say nhop is good but no one can beat Ray Brown ;)

  • this is GOD!!!

  • ohh good..good jazz like this make me suffer so much. I'm almost having an heart atack.

  • I have this DVD, and can thank YouTube for letting me know that it exists...these clips are great, but I am thrilled to own the actual.

  • Now, it all makes sense.

  • i read that he studied classical as a child

  • this is really refreshing. ive never heard Jazz this way

  • this is GOD

  • @zaffos88 well that's blasphemy.

  • @capecodairsofter I agree. Any god should learn from Oscar how to put hands on keys...

  • the best of jazz

  • io c'ero con mio padre che mi ha dato la passione del jazz.....adesso lui ci guarda dal cielo e ci ascolta con you tube ......

  • @bebop62 invidia massima! e grande papà che ti ha mostrato la retta via...

  • 24 justin bieber fan was escaped from the zoo....

  • @Gelike95 I'm not a really big fan of Justin Bieber (I don't mind him) but you should really check your grammar.

  • @Gelike95 Who gives a shit?

  • @Gelike95

It's disgusting to see Bieber's name everywhere. For God's sake respect Peterson Legacy and leave his perfomances without stupid comments.

  • @Gelike95 2 more of them got out...

  • The tune's form is a rondeau, it goes round 'n round 'n round...

A rondeau of happiness, the rising sun.

    A hymn to life!

  • Does the piano cry when he leaves the bench?

  • @vaginaflypaper phenomenal comment! couldn't have said it better myself. :)

  • @vaginaflypaper yea, probably :). but the bench doesn't, bitch.

  • @vaginaflypaper

    bahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @vaginaflypaper I know I cried when I saw him perform at the bowl, it was just awesome, such beautiful music, and the joy with which he played was breathless. Great

  • lovely 5 from Hungary

  • Being a danish bass player myself, I am of course very proud of NHØP, but I really think Ray Brown is playing wonderfully melodic simple here on this wonderful piece of music. And Oscar Peterson is simply fantastic

    Allan

  • @alsendk I think Niels Pedersen backslaps Ray Brown's little butt on this one :D

  • @pereKstor He most definitely did!!

  • @pereKstor NHOP is a more technical player, and has a more "upfront" tone. I hardly doubt that there was any competition here. Brown is widely regarded as one of the best jazz bass players ever, and rightly so. His groove is miles wide, untouchable. As a soloist, he's more in the trad jazz/blues vein, and there's hardly anything wrong with that. I love both of these master bassists, but there will always be a special place in my heart for the mighty Ray Brown.

  • @hecbiz75 Your wrong. I LOVE Ray, but even Ray ,who introduced NHOP to Niels, that Nhop is at anothe level, and thats why after this OP went with NHOP. GO to salur to Bach by OP and NHOP and enjoy. Wait for NHOP solo

  • @raleiti I tend to ignore people that can't spell.
