Shulgin enjoyed years of freedom to pursue his studies without interference from the U.S. government on what seems a tacit understanding that this be done without public fanfare. Two years after the publication of his tome "Pihkal - A chemical love story" in 1991 (sold at Virgin Records), the DEA raided Shulgin and revoked his license. I assume that Shulgin's decision to go public forever ended the hopes of anyone else with his talents and interests to be granted the privilege he enjoyed.
