  • sehr gute version hab ich aber von peter und NIN erwartet

    Gänsehaut pur^^

  • I didn't like this cover when I first heard it(And I love Murphy!)

But im really liking it now...Hrm

  • SO UNDERATED!!!????

  • Bauhaus is one of my favorite bands.

    Peter Murphy is a god.

    But this cover....Uh.no.

I like it more that NIN's version.

But I think Johnny Cash still does this song best.

  • this has nothin with joy division to do !!!

    thx for uploading !

so dark , so emational , so murphy ...

  • I just wish people would appreciate music for what it is, this isnt better or worse than NINs , its just Petes version, its artistic, its dark, its just another take on the song. Just enjoy it, it is amazing!

  • beautiful pter murphy

  • Peter Murphy brings this song to a hole new dimension

  • Wow what a great cover.

  • ...I don't want to offend NIN in any way as they have written such a wonderful song, but I always had a feeling that no one sang it better than Johnny Cash. Now that heart-wrenching but sweet experience is doubled, as Peter Murphy's version is also quite amazing. My favourite singer of all times and one of my favourite songs of all times...hmmmm, what could be better than that?

  • Beautiful cover...

  • As a huge NIN fan, I feel that there are WAY too many awful covers of NIN songs by people very unqualified to sing them. I mean, Linkin Park, Sevendust? Really? That said, there are some good ones. As someone else commented, Bowie did his Bowie thing with it. Cash took a song about a fictional character and applied it to his life. However, this version is my favorite cover. Murphy is an unbelievably talented artist that brings an already dark song and takes it to new, even lower depths.

  • I LOVE his voice.... he is so talented. really a magnifisant singer.

  • Amazing. Thanks for posting. Oh to have seen Bauhaus in the early 80s

  • this is amazing i was at a concert where he sung it live and it was amazing :)

  • Comment removed

  • wow..this is beautiful!!!!

  • I think he sounds alot like David Bowie, doesn't he? and don't take me for a fool, know much about both of them :P just some smiliarity in their voices.

  • @zejnulla They do have some of the same barritone vibrato voice going on. IMO Peter Murphy has more range. He sounds great with the growling dark barritone and also the more high pitched soprano singing he does every now and again. Quite impressive the range he's got. Very talented vocalist.

  • sing on Peter, sing on...beautiful...

  • i like peter murphy's singing, but NO ONE can sing this song like trent

  • This song always makes me cry! It just reminds me of all the terrible sadness in this world.

  • GOD IS PETER MURPHY HE CAN SING AND DESTROY WHATEVER HE WANTS

  • I have to disagree here. Murphy bring a certain darkness that maybe some people can't handle. NIN make this song in your face, Cash brings a broken, end of life vibe to the song and Bowie just does a Bowie thing to it, but this is really deep and tragically dark.

  • @echorich

Agreed, Cash's version is tragic, whereas Murphy's version is much darker, much more rending.

  • What have I become... my Swedish friend...

  • He should not have tried this....horrible version of a beautiful song....I love Bauhaus & Dali's Car - but Peter Murphy should have quit while he was still good..sad.

  • How about Johnny Cash??!

  • It's... Decent i guess...

  • I loved Pete Murphy's work from the very early days but this doesn't work for me, just sounds like Pete is over doing it. I do however like the original and Johnny Cash versions.

  • no matter who sings it? really?? Many, many artists wrote songs they knew they could not bring feeling or meaning to, and would seek out the artist that they knew would be perfect for it , or vise versa.

  • je l'aime,depuis des siècles...

  • I am pleased about this version, it is so cautionary and expressive at the same time, a perfect voice for a perfect song.

  • he is trying way too hard.

  • @mrdalga5 really??? ha! try looking into a mirror until you feel something about what other people may have gone through.

  • @wooby33 excuse me, let me rephrase, this is a beautiful song, with much feeling, no matter who sings it. it is my opinion that peter murphy is very talented but this is definitely not my favorite of his vocal performances or covers of trent reznors music.

  • @liquidspearwaltz6 I am guessing Trent was playing piano.

  • Merci! J'en ai les poils qui se hérissent...

  • This and all other NIN and Raznor songs are in the album, called "where darkness doubles, where light pours in (the radio sessions)".

  • Jesus, NIN sucks balls. But Peter.. well, I love him. That's why I'm listening to this.

  • I love his voice

  • Auf dieses Video antworten... NINE INCH NAILS SONG!!!

  • i dont like the way he sing -.-

  • I started laughing really hard. it almost sounded like he was making fun of Trent Reznor. Cash and Reznor are the best for this song. i wish that he changed the song a little more like other bands do to cover.

lol it sounds like hes making fun of this song!!

  • I personally don't like this cover . I understand why people would. It's cool that he put his own little twist on it.

  • awesome!

  • HaaaaHaaaa....ouch my side hurts...this song is already LAME!...ekkk Peter....sounds constipated singing this. yeah crown of SHITE! BUT yet the images are quite nice....

  • great cover!

  • Whatever.

  • Johny cash's version is top simply for being the original version and the person to write and compose this song. it is an amazing song with a strong message to it, all the covers are just as powerful and meaningful as the original.... yes i know i contradicted myself, but point being is this song is simply amazing no matter who has coverd it.

  • @Sublevare1 actually... the original version is NIN's...

  • @Sublevare1 It wasn't Cash do wrote the song, its a really early Nine Inch Nails song. Cash just covered it.

  • @Sublevare1 ....Trent Reznor wrote this song and Johnny Cash did a brilliant very apt version ...as Johhny realised later on in life what really matters!

  • Awesome!

  • ahahahahahah :D:D:D:D

  • I love all versions of this great song, perhaps original (NIN) I love the most!

But mr Murphy is fantastic here:))))

  • My God this is a delicious cover!

  • It's a good cover, but I still prefer the one by Johnny Cash

  • @eliotalanis I have a soft spot for Peter Murphy, but I have to agree, Johnny Cash really did something amazing with his cover too. I love them both equally yet differently.

  • This version of the song should be played before every NFL football game.

  • great another hurt cover.

When are those Joy Division songs done by Trent Reznor/Peter Murphy coming out?

  • Joy Division ? I don't think, uhm, I don't know...

  • @foggie go to a joy division site then dumb ass." Trent"does not mean validation of all music. Please research b 4 driveling.

  • @foggie Dead Souls??

  • just love this, his voice just draws you right in,great cover

  • He was fantabuliuos in concert!!! My 1st time to see him 2006, would luv to see hin again & again & again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sur ....it's peter !!!! hehehe

  • MAGNIFIQUE !!!!!!

    beau travail merci !!!!!!

  • looks and sounds like david bowie

  • It's Peter Murphy! I'm sur!

  • @intraveineuse It's not Frank Sinatra?

  • Whaaaat? That is 100% PM

  • @robdela0 yeah, you are definitely NOT an expert... have you heard his voice at all... like ever??

  • @robdela0 Definitely Peter Murphy since he played this song last year when I saw him. And he and Trent are currently working together.

  • @robdela0 You're retarded.

  • I love Peter Murphy, but he sounds a bit like Cartman on this one...

  • Urgh, not one of Petes better performances..

  • While I am partial to Cash's cover and of course the NIN original, I think Peter Murphy did an amazing job putting himself into the song. Simply amazing

  • k, i love bauhaus, and thought they were the shit, but if i ever hear peter murphy do this to a nine inch nails song again, i'll probly slit my wrists

  • @chemicalmarch2 then it worked

  • peter murphy has so much emotin behind this version.......

  • It's much Better Johnny Cash version

  • really good work with the video!

  • Thank You :)

  • Is there a mp3 of this available anywhere?

  • havent find one, but ive heard of a programm called atubecatcher, try out ;D

  • I don't know, sorry :s

  • @prestito87 you can make an mp3 of this video. google "youtube to mp3 converter" then paste this videos url and it makes an mp3 for you. :)

  • @prestito87 the album is on thepiratebay or just buy it.

  • I've listened to this song live by NIN and Peter Murphy. Peter Murphy's version was way better...

  • I have really mixed emotions about Murphy's cover of this....I have loved Murphy for years and years, but I prefer Bowie and Reznor singing this. I can sense quite a bit of emotion in Murphy's voice, which is great, but this is definitely not my favorite of PM's vocal performances.

  • It seems nobody gives a fuck about your opinion.

  • Was that directed at me?

  • Comment removed

  • Do your research a little bit. :) If you've ever heard him speak about peoples' comparisons between him and Bowie, you'd know he's simply being himself.

Great minds do think alike, after all.

  • Peter Murphy is good, dont get me wrong, but Reznor sings this way better. Comon..... Murphy is a bit off.

  • @terriblyill

Agreed, it's just not Peter's song. Among a multitude of strengths his singular flaw is that he fits another man's shoes poorly.

  • No, the subject at hand is this song. What can you prove regarding it?

  • If my statement were incorrect this song would be better, now wouldn't it?

Go argue with a fencepost, seems to be your style.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • I think you ARE a fencepost, so I'm doing fine. Get out more....

  • Among your deleted comments you accuse me of being 17 (you're 21, Jeremy, there's not a big difference), of being a pseudo-intellectual, and being a NIN lover. At no point can you nor did you attempt to "prove" anything.

The only thing you said that made any sense is that it is my opinion. Has it really taken you so long to figure that out?

  • this man is so insane good vocal !

  • peter murphy is trent reznor's hero. he's said that in interviews

  • Whats funny about shadowgeek101 is that a lot of people consider Trent Reznors voice to be special. That is why he sales records idiot! It is a very bold statement to say that someone has a bland voice. do you sing? Peter Murphy has a unique voice, but Trent Reznor sings HIS song way better than Murphy any day man....I dont know how people like you feel the need to negatively criticize artists and think that people want to hear it, or are even somewhat interested. Ha, get a life dude...

  • some of you guys are either incredibly stoned or incredibly stupid.

Peter Murphy has a SUBLIME voice even for his old age. I dare any of you to try singing in your 40's/50's, cunts.

And I've heard the Reznor version... it's meh. The man has a run-of-the-mill silky smooth yet masculine voice. Peter's invigorating vocals, from the past or in the present, can outmatch Reznor any day of the week.

I'll betcha this... when Reznor's in his old age, his voice wont be as in tact as Peter's.

  • I agree that Murphy's voice is still incredibly good (I'd even go so far as to say it's better than it was in his youth), however, calling the original version bland is just silly. It was good enough to be covered by three legends in completely different genres.

That said, I do like this version.

  • the song was good, yes. not the artist.

Trent Reznor's voice is bland at best. Anyone could name 30 different bands who sound just like him... he's nothing special.

he wouldn't be recognized just by his voice the way someone like Andrew Eldritch, Peter Murphy, Johnny Cash, or Axel Rose would be.

    i'm not saying his work's bland... he's bland. there's a difference.

I didn't bother to see PM with NIN when they came 'round california

  • I think everyone can recognize any NIN song just by Trent Reznors voice :S

Merci!. [ PARDON POUR MONTRES MAUVAIS FRANCES!].

  • Personally Ive never liked peter murphys vocal style. Can any of you tell me why you enjoy peter murphys voice?

I know you are going to hate on this comment for me saying this, but I currently have the video on mute, because I love the Reznor and Cash versions so much, I dont want them tainted.

  • I don't speak english very well, but his voice it's so perfect for my ears, my heart & my mind & that's all.

  • one of the best men in the world. He s so carismatic and his voice is magic.I will always love him.

  • In my opinion he ruined it.

    He just don't fit.

(Even tho he's a great singer - from what I saw and heard)

  • Man, I AGREE with you SISTER!!! You and me have a SIMILAR MENTALITY about a lot of things concerning Peter Murphy!!!... A "vampire" should STOP ageing at fucking "30"!!!! Lol!!!

  • PETER EST MUSULMAN DEPUIS 1990

  • MAGIQUE

  • not my favorite version of the song, but its nice to know Murphy would try it.

he should stick to Bowie songs ;)

  • It's one of my favourite songs and one of my favourirte singers and it's such an amazing combinance!

  • not really my style of singer, but very nice! have you seen the work he's done with trent reznor? The videos are all over youtube

  • Peter actually does it much better live. And...if you don't know who Peter Murphy is...you've been living under a rock since 1978.

  • Empire of Dirt. Aren't they all?

  • This is a good cover.

  • nine trent does it better but his voice is nice lack of emotion which is huge.

  • nine

  • This is a really nice cover of a good song, Peter sings it well I think :)

Nice video intraveineuse, there are some nice pictures and video clips there!

Can anyone find me a link to the picture at 1:01 though, please?

I've seen most of the photos/clips in this video, but I've not seen that one before... :)

  • Just print screen in then paste and edit?

  • I've found the picture now, but thanks for helping. :)

  • LOL these comments are %$@# WACK! HAHAHA Leave it to Peter Murphy to bring out the tainted and sometimes best of us!!! WE LOVE YOU PETER!! SOME MORE THEN OTHERS!! LOL

  • Peter Murphy IS EXTREMELY FUCKING TALENTED and HIS VOICE IS PHENOMENAL and IT DOESN"T MATTER THAT HE'S 51 and GAINED A LOTTA WEIGHT, blah, blah, blah. AND EVEN AT 80 HIS VOICE WILL STILL BE INCREDIBLE, OK??? Now myself I"M INFATUATED WITH THE 24 YEAR OLD PETER MURPHY and I FUCKING THINK HE WAS A FUCKING VISION back then, and HE GIVES ME A MIND-BLOWING RUSH!!!! I"M 100% FUCKING HONEST, IF PETER HADN"T LOOKED THAT GORGEOUS BACK THEN I WOULDN"T HAD TURNED INTO A PETER MURPHY FREAK AT ALL, ALRIGHT??

  • not that it matters but Pete hasn't gained weight when was the last time you saw him?.....he was his usual boney assed self last I saw him....it's the guy from the Cure who got tubby, Robert Smith........

  • I've never seen Peter in concert ( unfortunely!!! ) , but ever since joining "You Tube" I've been exposed to some of his MOST recent concert clips from like just last year , and he's become a fucking PORKER!!!! He hasn't actually really been "bony" in my opinion when he was "younger", he was just "slender" ( at about 155lbs.) and supposedly 6ft., so he was "proportioned" right!!! And his "succulent" bubble ass was anything but BONY!!! He used to have the right "lean" "athletic" physique...

  • really?! Well I gotta go see that as I can't imagine him fat! I've met them all and seen them in concert as Bauhaus, Pete on his solo tours and Love And Rockets and he's no 6 footer, 5'9 maybe 5'10 but Kevin is tall though!

  • It's really important ?!

My videos ar not posted for talking about that... it's stupid.

  • no my commenting about meeting them seems fine to me but you didn't say not to post comments to the others making remarks about his cum and having his kids...hmmm, sex crap is fine but not comments on meeting them, weight or height?...odd!

  • Sorry, I'm french I don't understand all, & I don't make answer at everybody.

  • HAhahahhaha... He probably got to sad and eat a bunch of chocolates.

    I love Robert though.

  • Oh the old Maxell cassettes advert man :-)

Here sounding like the Crash Test Dummies, I think.

  • @dfarmbrough Great spot! Murphy has had a penchant for humming (quite hilariously) at least as far back as the Daiis Car record. Murphy's voice has become increasingly silly with the years. It started out as an occasional humourous device but has now almost completely taken over, to the extent that I find it difficult to even listen to him now! I remember thinking years ago how much the singer from Crash Test Dummied sounded like Peter Murphy!

  • @MisAnnThorpe Yes. He obviously has some talent and some charm, but it's probably mis-directed. He is one of those artists who has a load of sycophantic fans who can't see any wrong in what he does, and so ends up becoming more and more pretentious as the years go by. He probably considers himself an 'artist' rather than a singer.

  • Superbe !

    merci !

  • I do too! He has the best voice ever, so hunting so sexy...the forever Mr. Murphy.

  • Oh, god, I want to bear litter after litter of his babies.

  • Comment removed

  • And I want to have liter after liter of his cream!!!!

  • Gross....

  • drop the sweetest drop..LOL

  • classic ...

  • their voices are simular thats why Bauhaus did a cover of Ziggy' but Pete has more range and is deeper.

  • I like all 3 version for different reasons. Trent's cuz it's his song and his lyrics. Cash's because it's timeless and poignant. Murphy's because he might have the strongest vocal performance of the three, and unless like Cash, who was introduced to Rez and his song by Ric Rubin for commercial reasons, Peter is actually a friend of Trent's.

So don't bash any of them. They all rule in their own way. It's like a good Dylan song - many people can cover it and there can exist many great versions.

  • Great song, interesting photos. Lyrics? It could be about me. Anyway, PM's voice is avesome.

  • :)

    great

  • I can't believe i'm gonna see peter murphy!i'm so excited!

  • I loved the radio show sessions the band had with Murphy in 2006. :D

  • Hey wtf is wrong with you 'laurauhlig86'??? Hurt is a NIN song not Johnny Cash!

  • laurauhlig86, you're a fuckin moron! Get YOUR facts straight bitch!

  • Yup, Hurt was written by Trent Reznor/NIN, Johnny Cash loved the song and made his own version.

  • ahaha

    asshole..

    hurt = Trent Reznor :)

  • lol lol lol What's that photo at 1:12? I laughed so hard I almost fell from my chair! lol

  • I don't understand all... because I'm french, but, it's a photo of Peter Murphy...

  • Peter Murphy with laces in the 80s...I´ve been shocked too,but it´s ace! Love him!!!

  • in the moment you said... "similar voice"... isn't that comparing?... and, dont worry, the stuff of "who is beter than who"... inst about of your opinion... its about the orher one... "Not bad...but nothing will ever beat Trent Reznor. Not even Cash"
