  • Great interview. Huge props to the pet shop boys! the collaboration with the legendary dusty springfield was one of the greatest moments in their career. Thank you Neil and Chris!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I have always been interested in Dusty and The Pet Shop Boys work together.

  • Neil's dress sense has not improved over the years....

  • Gorgeous.He is gorgeous xxx

  • thank gawd for DS a true legend with an amazin voice, real talent, PSBs were perfect for her voice, their music, the difference between the sludge on radio today and real music

  • Yeah hes my favourite singer

  • I think that What have I done to deserve this? is the best PSB song!

  • Whats the name of the osng shes playing with those back up singers,Imean Ive never heard, just hear an I LOVE IT,PLEASE IF ANYONE CAN HELP.

  • What a great combination,I love these two with all my soul till I die.

  • he is a fucking genious

  • Neil is so hot in 1986 and in 2009 . I love this British god. Neil please come to South Carolina.

  • Neil is hot! I'm so in love with this man. He a british god!!!

  • neil was quite handsome at this time when did this interview take place ???

  • I love what have I done to deserve this. one of my fave songs ever

  • What a pro Dusty was.

  • This must have been around 1987 or 88, when they decided to have her on their record. I remember the song when it came out.

  • @tall32guy The single "What Have I Done to Deserve This" came out in 1987, but this interview is much later. Any die-hard Pet Shop Boys fan knows his hair was considerably shorter between 1989 and 1990. I've seen the "Yesterday, When I Was Mad" video, he looks similar to this interview. I would put this interview in about 1993/94.

  • @DowdsyProductions1

    South Bank Show, 1992

  • kudos to neil for introducing young'uns to dusty in "what have i..." she left such extensive legacy.

  • lol .......if PSB didnt introduce dusty to my life i dont think id b interested ...and then i discovered LIZA,excetra....and so on PET SHOP BOYS ...........LEGENDS

  • yeah. think i paged through noel coward at one point after getting Alternative, watched derek jarman, read up russian revolution (that one didn't go too far LOL)...there must be more. so PSB does your brain good, too!

  • She is incredible! That type of performer doesn't exist anymore. RIP

  • dusty is the best wot a lady rip

  • The magnificient Neil Tennant.... Such a great singer, gives us so much to remember in his music... Love You Neil..... and all the memories you bring.

  • Dusty was so unique!!!

  • One of the most spectacular comebacks in pop history.

  • I think you got it wrong with comebacks because PSB never went anywhere. They were always working on something

  • I was referring to Dusty, not the PSB. But the Pet Shop Boys themselves could use a comeback now. "Fundamental" flopped. I usually buy their albums, but I didn't bother; didn't like what I heard. They cancelled a show at the Hollywood Bowl this year.

  • Seriously, on what do you base the word "flopped" ? go to Amazon and check the reviews... Ya Muppet

  • I don't read reviews in order to form my own opinion; I have a functioning brain. I did not like the album. I thought the reworking of "In Private" was disrespecting Dusty's memory. Her version was a hit and Neil & Chris should have left it at that. But that's part of my gripe with PSB; they never know when to leave well enough alone. Too many remixes and repeating themselves too often just to create more product than necessary amounts to excess. Those "Disco" releases are a case in point.

  • To moorlock2003 - Ummm....."In Private" was written and produced by PSB with Dusty singing, as chosen by them. So, if they wish to release 'In Private' with Kermit the Frog, Kim-Jong-Il or the Holy Ghost, that's well within their rights. Also, you said "Fundamental" 'flopped' - something doesn't 'flop' based on your functioning brain, but on reviews and critical reaction. So, yes, go and check Amazon.....

  • Time to move on....I think the new one, "Yes", will redeem them. I'm hoping so anyway.

  • moorlock is right because the last two studio records by the pet shop boys (release and fundamental) sold not well but look at the sales of YES you can see it as a success i mean their new song will enter the us hot 100 by next week and this after nearly 18 years

  • @moorlock2003 Flopped really??? Fundamental was almost PHENOMENAL... It got 3 Grammy nods and was critically acclaimed... The only thing is that Fundamental was not as flashy as Madge's Confessions...

  • I'm referring to the US. Fundamental bombed here. Thank goodness the single "Did You See Me Coming" redeemed them. Best thing they had done in years.

  • The whole thing is great - Neil sounds so thrilled by Dusty working with them - and what a great way back in - the 'vehicle' as Dusty put it.

  • I'm impressed by her bravey!

    Dusty x PSB=<3

  • Pet Shop Boys and Dusty..what a team. Thank you Neil! I love you both.

  • This entire interview was just brilliant. Thanks adeis!

  • Thanks Neil for bringing Dusty back to us. We owe you big time.

  • A genius..taken from us way before her time. Dusty, we miss you! JUST SAAANG GIRRRL! :)

  • Thank you adeis, thank you very much!

I wish I would have a time machine.

  • I've never seen this either. Thanks for posting, I'm such a hug fan of Dusty's.

  • "I was the lead singer of the pet shop boys because Chris wouldn't sing..." LOL!

  • i dunno if others will agree, singers maybe as i sing..does dusty and eva cassidy sound similar?Powerful but very sweet and it touches the heart. Both unique xxx

  • Yes she did make songs so much better. We miss her more each passing day

  • Dusty takes your song and makes it ten times better!

    Go Neil!

  • Oooh I love this... the clip of Dusty was edited out of Full Circle maybe?

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I had never seen it before, as Dusty is virtually ignored these days in the US. Her collaborations with The Pet Shop Boys are as good as any of her earlier work, too.
