@AQUAMARINETMI Yet another stereotype. Not all colleges do that. Yeah it does happen unfortunately, but not all fraternities and/or sororities do that and not just them do it. It's happened in clubs, on teams and in other groups before.

I'm so glad there are no as much fraternities and sororities up here in Canada. I just don't like the idea of cliques and labelled memberships. I don't think they are all drunks and lazy people - but the idea of having labelled cliques just makes me uncomfortable. I think it leads to thinking about a person a certain way based on what clique they belong to.

I heard that sororities sometimes force girls that are rushing to sleep with men to get into it. If sororities are all about sisterhood, a true sister or friend would never make a girl do that kind of lowly thing just to get into it! My God where is the self-worth and dignity in that!? I am not trying to say what you said is not true, but there are negative things that come out of sororities. Take care:)

Thank you for sharing the truth that you know:) As a woman I personally did not choose to be a part of a sorority because of the reputation they have. At my college, which a HUGE party school b/c it is seconds away from the beach, sorority girls are viewed by male students as "trashy". The way I have heard Frat guys talk about them is disgusting and outright disrespectful.

I'll start with the Greece comment. You sir, are a complete moron. The letters, that define each individual house, are letters from the greek alphabet. Also, these kinds of groups originated in ancient greece.

Gangs comment, sure, we have things in common with gangs, but i'm sure that you do to. Just because you have things that are similar, doesn't make you the same thing.

It was a persuasive speech and I was selling that fraternities are A LOT more than social clubs for drinking...and gave facts tat show that the majority of us greeks stand for something...Stand for Higher education, Spirit, and community service.

I get what your saying and im not in a sorority ..YET but i want to be in one because i work better with authority watching me and i know you need a certain GPA to even be in one like sports. things like that encourage and make me have the urge to keep my grades up. Also i really want to do more volunteering so i'm going to rush at the school im going to !! thanks!!

fraternities are excutionary and classist. supposedly, for people who are "better" than others. all you have to show for it is that you are connected. it's like sme sort of post-aristocracy or nobility. it's bullshit.

At a state University, the minimum GPA to join a sorority/fraternity was 2.4 - and many members can't keep that. You're telling me a 2.4 is good?

It has been sociologically proven that fraternity mindset is caused by an insecurity with one's self and desire to fit it in.

I agree with this kid. I'm in a fraternity in Texas and there are just alot of bad eggs that ruin the entire name. Plus its not interesting for people to look at all of the good things we do like community service and leadership experience. Most would rather just think the worst and blam greek life because we're a recognized group.

No, I didn't comment on that, and I wholeheartedly appologize. Are you going to sit here and try to tell me that every person in a fraternity does this, and that only people in fraternities do this, because thats one bold statement. You can ask my girlfriend, or any girl on campus at my school, how they are treated, we will see how they respond. I don't speak for everyone, there are bad eggs in every group, but don't judge everyone on one thing.
