But he deserves my respect for coming out so clean, let alone on a national talk show like his. It must be a terrifying experience to admit such acts on national television, and one that I hope he never has to go through again. Hopefully he has learned his lesson through this experience.

Well, I don't think they necessarily think it's funny, it's just a knee-jerk reaction. First off, they're an audience at a comedy show, so they've geared their brains to laugh for the next hour or so (which makes perfect sense.)
And frankly, if I were sharing something like that to a live studio audience (and on camera) it would be much less terrifying to have people laughing then dead silence. Then it's not like you're being judged.

I actually don't think Letterman was married at the time of these affiars. He was probably dating his then long time girlfriend and current wife but not married yet. I don't think it's anyone's business but theirs either way.
As for sleeping with your employees, I do find that sleezy since it effects your judgment and that of your business. I dont' find it nearly as destible as trying to blackmail someone with their personal but Letterman still owes his staff and investors an apology.

He may or may not have cheated on his wife. What ever "terrible things" he did, have happened sometime in the last 30 years...quite possibly well before he was married to his current wife. I'm sure his wife has a bit more stake in that question than you do.

Its not as if this guy was just going to say "hey, Letterman had sex with women." What the man was in possession of was diary entries from Stephanie Birkitt. He dated her.
