How does grading work? Is an "A" worth more than an "A-"? Also, do the dorms have A/C and/or heaters? Is grading very difficult? Do you find the size of Cornell to be daunting? What is your major? Which college did you apply to? Early decision?
@jencatshow Letter grades correspond to a number scale which determines your GPA (grade point average). At Cornell, the correspondence is as follows:
A+: 4.3
A: 4.0
A-: 3.7
B+: 3.3
B: 3.0
C+: 2.7
A "perfect" GPA is technically a 4.3 (which is practically impossible), but a 4.0 is also considered perfect to whomever you talk outside of the school.
Some dorms have A/C, and I think all have heaters. There aren't too many months when it gets too hot, though.
@jencatshow Some classes (usually introductory ones) are graded on a curve, which means that you essentially have to "beat the mean" to do well in that class. Otherwise, grading is very fair. You'll need to work hard to succeed, but I think that if you put enough time into any class, you can do well.
I'm a Computer Science major in the College of Engineering. I did not apply early decision, but if you're set on Cornell, then doing so will increase your chances of admission.
would you mind sharing ur sat, gpa and e/c just so i can compare to see a real example and not just stats? i understand if u dont want to, but itd really help, thanks

drugs are bad, mmkay? Personally, I don't party. But if that's your scene, that's fine too. There are plenty of people who party, and plenty who don't. You can find fun in either/both groups.
How did you experience the whole sharing a bathroom thing? I mean at home you have to share it with only a few people but at college you have to share it with a whole lot more. Is it difficult to take a shower because they're all occupied?
Sharing a bathroom with so many people is not as bad as you think. In my hall, we have around 20 people sharing one bathroom with 8 sinks, 7 toilets, and 6 showers. In the morning, there is never a problem finding a stall, sink, or shower. Not everyone wakes up at the same time, because our class schedules differ. The only problem that others do not have the same standard of cleanliness as you (or no standard at all). Also, if you forget anything in there, it will be removed by custodians.
I got a 9 in my school. and i really want to apply but the GPA is very confusing to me.
how does it works for international students?

also, did you ever take an ACT test? and if you did what composite score did you get?
iplehguitar 2 years ago
how do you get a gpa higher than 4? A++? XD i dont understand, did you do extra extra credits or did something spectacular?
iplehguitar 2 years ago
I never took the ACT; it's not taken that frequently in new jersey (i.e., the SAT is the preferred test).
And I said above that the GPA at my school is weighted weirdly. 5.5 was an A+ in an honors/ap class.
UponReachingInfinity 2 years ago
u get above 4.0 on a weighted gpa. Higher level classes, for example GT, are worth more points. An "A" in a GT class is worth 5 points, ect.
