  • Very, very nice control. Well done!

  • @Jetman123

Thanks but I meant something more like Kendo champion vs KDF champ with gear.

  • Your movements are very quick, powerful, precise, and fluid. I like it very much!! All who study WMA are fortunate to watch your videos. Please make more!!

  • @bws462

    Seconded.

    Cool stuff!

  • awesome moves!

  • Seems risky to not use gloves, accidents happen even with professionals. Good video and nice demo though

  • Very cool stuff guys! Glad to see the tradition is being preserved. Not to mention it looks like a ton of fun =D

  • Holy shit. Kunst des Fechtens vs Kendo right fucking now!

  • @timharris I know this comment is a little old, but you might want to check out this video: watch?v=cFGPCTMp2cw It's basically KDF vs Kendo for you right there, although I think the eastern swordfighter is using a mix of kendo and aikido.

  • Gloves ?

  • @thisisjustme1 just for sparring

  • I don't understand why anyone would have clicked the Dislike button.

  • @Kunstdesfechtens in my country we use to say "the more people the more tastes" (don`t know the english synonym)

  • @johnmeadowcourt I guess I'm not as nice as you are. My impulse would be to say: "You can't fix stupid". :)

  • @johnmeadowcourt I believe it might be a similar sentiment to "Opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one."

  • @Duterasemis good one! :)

  • @johnmeadowcourt : There's lots of English variations, but the most common is probably "To each, his own.". Basically, each person has their own interests.

Unfortunately in the U.S. there is no sense of importance in history and these things are looked down upon by the general public as being childish.

  • Great vid.

  • ci to mają nasrane w baniach

  • You guys rule... Awesome!

  • @Hunter3050 thanks:)

  • @johnmeadowcourt Great control of distance, force application and techniques...

Any chance I could drop around to practice w/ you guys sometime?

  • by the way, what is first songs name?

  • @bsapaka the song is from Battlestar Galactica series, Bear McCreary - Scar (season 2)

  • awesome intensity and energy

  • @bsapaka thank you very much!

  • i've noticed that many badass swordsman have beards. there may be a reason for this... haha! great job guys. i always enjoy longsword fencing videos.

  • I'm loving how aggressive this is! This seems like a superb school! What masters do you primarily study?

  • @VikingWannaBe51887 Hi! We started with Joachim Meyer, then moved to Lichtenauer (via Speyer, Danzig, Lew, Ringeck, hs3227a). We try to primarily study everything what is accesible:)

  • 1:38 ... the most devastating florysh ever. :P

  • @phalanxbl hell yeah, the most secret techique ever :)

  • Now this is fencing ! Great work guys !

So called modern "fencing" is an abomination... a joke for pencilnecks with their pseudo "sabers, foils and epees "

  • @schatzperson thanks. I do think that any activity of interest has its value for the person who does it. In our group (besides the core activities) we favour duelling on epees, foils, rapiers, daggers and everything ever invented for fighting as well as fighting with longswords.... Neverheless, longsword rocks the most!;) cheers

  • definitely not modern fencing.

  • @michwng modern fencing sux =P

  • Zdravím. Mohu se zeptat od koho máte ty meče? Vypadají jako práce od Pavla Moce..

    Díky.

  • @PlexonCZ Ahoj, veru sa jedná o prácu od Pavla Moca.

  • great work, great fencing. ... and great interemzzo :-) !!!

  • @massimofenu thanks!

  • Hi, what is stuck 2:13, please?

  • @23camillus I assume you mean mutieren?

  • @johnmeadowcourt no, after intermezzo is 1. duplieren, 2. mutieren, 3. ??? 4.mutieren

  • @23camillus winden with a cut from the bind, I was too close to stab him/or to get away from the bind and he was too weak for duplieren

  • Interesting video :D

I'm curious about the length and the weight of the sword (either real or the ones used for practice)

  • @Priest105 hi! lenght and weight varies from sword to sword:) but the longswords we use are approx. 140cm/1,85kg. The "real" ones of similar lenght vary from 1,5-2,5kg (ca), depending on the other dimensions.

  • @johnmeadowcourt

Thx for the quick response! :D

    1.85kg? whoa..that's real heavy for a sword

  • Never heard about a 2.5 kg longsword. I heard about 1.2 kg longswords, Irish designs, but 2.5 kg should be really unwieldy for some of the fencing moves.

  • Great stuff. The energy and intensity in these clips is an inspiration for all 'German longsword' fencers and sets the bar very high. You guys should consider putting together a longsword DVD: it would bring a very refreshing and different perspective to what is out there already. I'd buy it! ;)

  • @CollegiumInArmis thank you very much! so far we haven`t considered production of a DVD. But who knows, maybe one day:) good luck with your Meyer studies;)

  • excuse me for my Inglish that is verry bad. But I juste want to say you : this is génious. In France There is verry hard to find and practise this hobby. Thank you verry much for videos ! It's good to see that !

  • @hindenwolf thank you very much! this craft relies just on the amount of time, sweat and practice you`ll sacrifice it. Good luck! ;)

  • lovely work. what is the stuck at 0:48-49?

  • thanks! my fencing german is coming along, I understood that! ;) I'll have a read through Speyer ...

  • This is good stuff.

  • I just love these low stances! Excellent camerawork and music.

  • @Njurvar thank you very much! :)

  • Quite nice, and nice energy, but I don't see the point in raising your hands in the thrusts between 0:05 and 0:24. I would rather lower them instead, to cover the line to the opponent's sword. Even if you have just thrust him through the throat or chest he might still manage one last slash, and it seems completely unnecessary to leave yourself open to it. Otherwise - great stuff, good editing.

  • @3ng4n Thank you for your comment! The issue you raise can be perceived in many various levels (e.g. energy, velocity, tempo, waich/hert) and is hard to be solved by words:) I find the only suitable generalisation in "... cut on his sword, is he weak, then shoot your point to his head or chest". Let us say, in the greatest level of abstraction, he`ll have to do a-parry-for-his-life instead of cutting my arms, so it doesn`t really matter in that tempo.

  • I sort of agree, but by raising your hands you not only leave the arms exposed but the entire body. And since there is no discernible advantage to raising the hands I don't think it's a good idea to train oneself to do that. Lowering your hands you will still shoot the point to his head or chest just as well, but will keep yourself a lot safer against a nachschlag.

  • @3ng4n There actually is an advantage in strenghtening your positions. You also have a different portfolio of actions coming out from that kind of stabbing. It`s rather a matter of fuhlen and tempo. I would have stayed in a bind or lower (and wind on his sword), if he was stronger or more relaxed to do a contra-action. Please, check the video in slow-mo, mainly the abnehmen stuff. But we are getting too much hypothetical, I hope to meet you one day;)

  • I agree, it's very hard to discuss these things properly without being able to demonstrate physically what one means. Perhaps we'll meet at some international event? I will be in Vienna, Dijon, at Fightcamp and Swordfish....

  • I'm with 3ng4n, there is a definate danger of a nachschlag there, and raising hands doesn't strengthen your position, as you're not in the bind. If they void the thrust by ducking their head to the side they can cut to your arms. I've both done that and had it done to me in free play.

But still, this is excellent work. Your handwork is superb.

  • Slovakia and our fencers are now dominant Kunst des Fechtens fighters on YT.;) Nice vid, but I would try to move your center of gravity more forward. Thanks.

  • Great editing! Serious, then fun, and then serious again. :-)

  • @Djemps aaalwaays look on the the bright side of life:) mpython`s fan;)
