My Shelties (I have 4) don't care for toys any more, but they do love to chew on rawhide. They all sleep in crates at night. I have trained them to go to bed when I tell them it is bed time. I put them to bed at 9pm every night. All I have to say is "Bed Time" and they all go running to their own crate. I think I will try to train them to put their rawhide's in one place or maybe in a small box or something. I get tired of picking up the rawhide's out of the walkway. Wish me luck!
My sheltie, Buddy, will go to his toy bin and move the toys or take some out to find the ones he wants... The only bad thing is he won't put them away. :]
Wow! I’m getting a sheltie next week and you just made me even more excited! Was it difficult to train him to do that? Shelties are soo smart, it’s unbelievable!!
@daphneisthebest - I wouldn't say it was real difficult for me to teach, it just took awhile for him to learn each of the different steps of the trick. So a lot of time and patience to develop this.
he is so cute/smart and looks to have a great personality! Did you get him from a breeder? If so, I'd love if you could tell me their contact info/website because I'm looking to get a sheltie puppy in the next few months and learn as much as I can in the meantime!
I think you are an excellent teacher. Your dogs are remarkably smart. Beautiful too. Keep up what you do best. Shelties are the absolute best breed. Smart, gorgeous and loyal oh so loyal.
I cannot explain the complexities of clicker training in the amount of space allowed here...just google the term and you will find tons of articles on clicker training and shaping.
@fencergirl06 - He's still pretty young in this video, maybe a year? He's filled out a bit more, but he's a pretty small sheltie, about 13 inches tall.

Wow! How did you teach him that? Our sheltie leaves her toys everywhere, so this would be a useful skill.

This trick was trained completely by shaping with a clicker.
