Terry does a great job, but also check out Damon Alban and Ray Davies duetting on this; unfortunately the clip has been removed but maybe someone can put it back up.
This was an early version of the song. Terry soon expanded it to include an audience sing-along on the phrase that he repeats near the end, "As long as they gaze on Waterloo sunset, they are in paradise." Jack Tempchin owns the original video, which was shot in MiniDV format. Many shows were also recorded on multitrack audio tape by Jack's recording engineer Richard Bosworth.
Whoever posted this video neglected to mention that the camera work is by ME! The clip was originally posted on Jack Tempchin's site JACKLAND.COM, now defunct, but you can see archived copies at ARCHIVE.ORG.
THis was filmed at The Joint, in L.A. where Terry had a weekly residency w a bunch of musos. The guitarist is Waddy Wachtel, bass Rick-the bass-player w Neil Young. It was the place to be on Monday nights as you never knew who would get up on stage & play cover songs w the guys.. & many super stars appeared on stage there w Terry & Waddy & the lads.
Terry Reid could bring the Doo-Wops back into fashion for the teens of today when he hits that falsetto and lets it ride over the top! This is such an INCREDIBLE video!
Jester88zg ~ You must NEVER take this video off YOUTUBE! I've been a Kinks fan since `65 when I was 15 and saw them play the Capital in Passaic, NJ a bunch of times but Terry Reid sings this great song so absolutely awesome it hurts! I don't need me no booze and I don't need me no drugs I can get just as high as I please on music! Outstanding performance by the entire band on stage!
I saw the Kinks do this song live back in 1972. I believe this song and the Moody's 'Go Now' may be the quintessential English songs. Terry's version is unbelievable. It was my pleasure to hang with Terry in SoCal in 1992. I saw him at the Coachhouse with joe walsh and them helped him with a show at the BellyUp in Solano Beach.
You could cut the energy with a knife back when Terry took the stage regularly on Big Mondays with Waddy Wachtel - at The Joint in LA - before they expanded the place -you had to wait in line to get in due to fire codes, and it was worth it. His stage presence is incredible. He'd wear a crazy purple suit, take the stage in socks, and sculpt his hair into horns atop his head while he got wild and lost in the songs, especially Waterloo Sunset. Magic passion. He gives me chills too.
He may well have turned down Jimmy Page's offer, but can you just imagine what a band it would have been with "SUPERLUNGS" on vocals and another GUITAR. Stairway to Where? - Thanks 4 this Jester88zg
it's definitely waddy. this is from 'big mondays' at the joint in LA. they did it every monday, and still do many mondays, sadly, minus terry, since he got married and moved to palm desert. for awhile there it was terry, bernard fowler and blondie chaplin, the stones' b/u singers (and blondie is a former beach boy- they did his song, sail on sailor :-) and stacey p from tennessee...they had four great singers. and i could see terry every monday just down the street from my house. :-))

Saw him play at a little club in London called "The Revolution" almost 40 years ago- and still remember he was flawless.

He was too good for Zeppelin-he's areal musician, not just a front man with tight pants.

Awesome cover! Wah-er-loo sunset! LOL
Listen to that guitar amp roaring too. That has got to be the sound of a Vox AC30 or similar amplifier

I don't know who he's playing with, but it was in march 2001..

Looks like Waddy Wachtel on the left...which would make it around the time he was recording in L.A. ...so my guess is this is in SoCal.
