Wonderful performance. I just wanted the soloist to stand still. It makes the difference between an emotional singer and a true soloist. Emote from the head up. Less is more.
@Mazeppa224 What a predictable and pedestrian response. It's completely counter to the sensibilities of the genre to "emote from the head up." This isn't the St. Matthew Passion. The soloist nailed the spirit of the piece with his voice, with his affect, and yes, with his body.
This was a great performance! I did this arrangement with my college choir a couple years ago, and it has remained one of my favorite Spirituals ever since. Watching Donte moved me so much that I get viceral reaction of tears. Thanks for that!
I love hearing the work of a choral conductor that get's it! So few "white" choirs can make the transition to a piece like this and do it with integrity and in a style that Jester Hairston would have LOVED! I knew the man, take my word for it, he would have been dancing in the aisles. Way to go Biola, great soloist, great conductor!
OMG, this rendition is absolutely without a doubt fabulous!! The baritone is amazing-animated, engrossing, perfectly on pitch...in a word magnificent!!! Who is the baritone?
LOVE IT!!!

@Mazeppa224 I agree with southernsceptic. This is a true spiritual, sung from the soul....where less is not more..

I love how engaged the choir was! And the soloist was 100% soul and passion. Hope I can half way replicate the job he did. Great job!
