  • Love this song..

  • When was this live version recorded? So good..

  • Sorry everybody! The song is wonderful and I am just too vocal about Cars and Amercia!! No harm meant and I will stick to comments about music on here!

  • I love the Eagles and this take on the Waits classic. I do still prefer Waits' pronunciation as Lickety-splickly better though.

  • Like Poco, The Eagles will never be equealled. Just a part of our history that will never happen again, just like them gas guzzling cars. We were just lucky to be a part of it.

  • Good Lord. How did this get political? This is a song written by Tom Waits and recorded on his album Closing Time in 1973 (a year before The Eagles released On the Border). Listen to his "Storytellers" show from the Burbank Airport in 1999, and you'll realize this song isn't about any of the thing you all are reading into it...

  • My uncle was a avid Eagles fan. This is one of the many he was good with keeping up with them. He had a all Fisher stereo system that was rated at about 400 watts. At full throttle, both He and the stereo, would sound like he was a member of the band. He would be pissed at the slide show being its not his brand of car...but he would honor these guys with a little back-up vocals. Miss you, Duke! 1960-2006. The coffee is always on!

  • Good song great car

  • @LS1LT1 What's more important that principle? Must be your UAW brothers. I don't support any crooks if I can help it and not ever buying GM or Chrysler again is a way I do what I can. It was bad enough that they took the welfare; but screwing over their bondholders to give preference to the UAW is what did the trick for me. So far, I've replaced 4 GM trucks in my fleet with fords and I'll keep getting rid of the rest of my Obama motors trucks as fast as I can.

  • @zote12 I agree.No more chevy's for me,either.

  • @zote12

It's not about bailouts, UAW, unions or any bullshit you are trying to read into it. The song is for guys like me, I was 16 and had a 55 Chevy 2dr Sport coup. The hot summer nights (no air ) with the windows rolled down and the headers crackling waiting for the next challenger. The song is about the car, the girl and that period of time in ones life. Now go buy your Toyota or your Honda and don't worry about things you don't understand

  • @shirtlessman never said the song was about any of that. Response was to a UAW screed about his blame Bush nonsense. Learn to read dude.

  • @zote12

Well I quit buying GM a long time ago, had nothing to do with the workers but because of the engineers and the way they designed the cars. The workers are just workers--Union thugs? There is more white collar crime in this country that goes unnoticed. Most of that kinda crime ruins peoples life, Enron, inside trading, the banking fiasco----------- My point was --On this forum it's about the song, not someone like you standing on a soapbox spewing your beliefs. Dude? you in Jr.High?

  • @shirtlessman I was in Jr. High in 66 how about you? I didn't start the UAW rant; castellonsuzanne did, I just responded to political post championing her hero 0bama. Learn how to read a thread...dude.

  • @zote12

How about me? I was in High school----------I'll be 61. Believe it or not some people come on here to listen to the music, and some come on here to blow off steam---it's safer for them here then say the VFW or the Legion. Here is a good song that you should listen to the words------Get Over It by the Eagles------- lot of truth in those words

  • @shirtlessman I agree. You've got me by 2 years, I'm 59 sneaking up on 60. I like the music and didn't come here to get into a political debate, but the blame Bush rant pissed me off so I let off a little steam too. I'm over it and still like The Egales, but I'm tired of hearing all the Union and 0bama crap.

  • To all The Gen Motors Workers and their families! Geo Busch and his 8 years did not get us! Dont give up on Barack it takes awhile to clean up a dirty rotten wealthy serving admin. But it's coming!

  • @castellonsuzanne GM should have gone broke, that's what they deserved. I'll never buy another GM or Chrysler product because of what Obama and the UAW did. They screwed the bondholders and many of their dealers to give to the UAW much more than they deserved. I'll never buy and Obama Motors vehicle; never. I'll buy Ford , I would even buy Chinese before I'll help Obama and his union thug buddies.

  • @zote12 Well that's just brilliant, I suppose you won't be doing any more business with any of the big banks/brokerage houses either, huh? they too took money & STILL fail to do what they're supposed to.

    At least GM employs.

Pretty damn sad state of affairs when normally loyal American citizens actively choose to NOT support their own based SOLELY on principle. I hope YOUR children/grandchildren won't have to pay even more than they already will be for a horrible attitude such as that. :-(

  • even the eagles knew good music.... Go Tom Waits!!!!

  • The song was covered by the Eagles on their 1974 album On the Border.

  • According to an interview that I heard with the guy who wrote the song,Tom Waits....He used to own a 55 Buick Roadmaster

  • @3:15, how'd that Olds wagon sneak in there?

  • Great tune, thank you so much for posting. Would you have Is It True, by any chance/ Love that song also. Thanks again.

  • I never heard this version... it sounds like the Eagles...

  • @mxfog well sir. These pictures are of 55 Chevy's, not caddys.

  • @skynxnex111 I guess you didn't understand, I know they're chevys, Waits originally sang about a 55 caddy. I've always related chevys to the song, but thanks for pointing out the obvious.

  • was this from the farwell tour, or hell freezes over?

  • @faintofhearts86 this is from their New Year's Eve 1999 Show

  • Thanks for the song and the pictures, Wait's said it was a Cadillac, I always thought Chevy, I will continue to think Chevy, fits my mental image better.
