So is the Thread protector worth investing in? I have been concerned about putting one on because of it damaging the threads as you have to take it off to field strip. Is that really an issue or does it matter?
Depends on you. You CAN'T screw up the threads with the thread protector unless you crossthread it. There are a number of ways you might hurt the threads with the thread protector off the gun.
@MaverickH1 what do you mean by thread protector? I dont have any threads on my barrel and i have an HK 45 USP, not sure what threads you are talking about, and as far as the rails under neath the barrel, i dont know what a picatinny rail is, but i do know the difference between an HK 45 and a USP, but the HK 45 wasnt approved by california yet when i bought mine....
You see how his barrel extends a little beyond the rest of the pistol? There are threads there, and he has a cap over them to protect them. Most USPs do not have this feature. It's for attaching a suppressor or compensator (and I guess it slightly improves accuracy, since the barrel is longer).
If your pistol doesn't have threads, you're like 99% of folks out there, so don't worry about the thread protector.
I'd like to clarify your how often to clean statement. If the weapon sits at home, sure every 12 months. But if it is your daily carry piece and hasn't been fired, at least once a month. It's amazing how much grime can end up in the barrel and hammer assembly from everyday carry.
@stevetimman i agree completly i carry my usp 40 full size every day either in a inside the waistband holster or a safariland black widow holster both have an open end and i clean mine every two weeks because i live in a desert enviorment and you are so right about how quickly crap winds up in the weapon
I bought it used on HKPro. It is a Laser Devices Blast unit. Not to be confused with the Blast 2.
Sorry, but you don't have an HK USP 45 with picatinny rails. The HK45 has picatinny rails, but the USP 45 does not. They are completely different models. An easy way to tell is one says USP on the slide, and the HK45 doesn't.
hey man you really need to do a detailed cleaning vid cuz my usp 45 fired over 600 rounds without detailed cleaning which is because i have no idea how please help!!!!!!!!
I have some questions, where did you get your slide and what sights are on it , do they have sights and slide for usp expert 45 acp and what holster do you use with the blast unit oh and what's the story behind the polygonal barreling you were about to get into that but decided not to, great vid's bro H&K owns.

just a question on the USP, does it have to have a special rail adaptor for regular laser/light systems?

Laser Devices Blast unit. Laser/light combination. Not to be confused with the Blast 2 unit, which is apparently the 2nd generation version.

I find that those computer dusters (compressed air) come in extremely handy when cleaning weapons.
