The director of the documentary found a VHS copy of the interview in his basement a few months ago and it this interview was aired in its entirety in a few select theaters. @jshowa5 GUI was more important to make computers easy to use by the mass market. OOP and sophisticated TCP/IP networking APIs was what Steve Jobs spent the late 80's developing with NeXT OS. That was the basis for Tim Berners Lee for using those NeXT tools for developing the World Wide Web. You can thank Steve Jobs for that.

You had to assemble it yourself. It had no monitor or KB for input. You had to tape feed code, reset switches to make it work.

This is a great interview to watch now (2011) when we can see what Apple, under his guidance of the last 14 years, has been able to become. Its great to see that he had the 2nd chance to build Apple into what he wanted it to be. Steve Wozniak built Apple the computer, but Steve Jobs built Apple the company.
I can build me a brand new pc every year for the next 5 years and it'll still cost less than one iMac. Think about it, every year I'll have a new pc with new cpu/memory, etc and running at top speeds while the technology in the iMac will be outdated after the first year.
@rileytoole I used Macs back when OS X came out. I owned 3 different Apple computers. When I learned to build pc's I switched. Huuuuge bang for buck and I love the flexibility I get from a pc. @muskypucker Creative and productive tool? Personal preference and completely anecdotal. I use a PC for the same reasons (Computer Art and Design, 3D Modeling and Animation) and the tools are far superior and for the most part nearly identical to what's available on the Macintosh. "Microsoft" is merely a distributor that manufactures an OS that is open and accessible to the vast majority of people. Jobs was right when he said MS they lacked Culture, but at the cost of culture came accessibility.

There's no doubt that apple make beautiful products. I used 1 at art school & loved it.But they're so costly compared to pcs.If you're on a budget,there's really no choice.Do I want a $1800 mac with 320 G or a $800 laptop with 640G ?Also,they tie you to their whole product line. I bought a movie on Itunes& it won't play on my tv set top box. It cost as much as the retail DVD,but the DRM restrictions make playing it on various formats a hassle.I can't afford apple tv. @darksaber112 Xerox had some real geniuses in their computer division, coming up with amazing things. Like the GUI in a time when people where using punch cards or maybe some text console. Like Steve said they also had come up with object oriented programming, that when it eventually spread, programmers could then program things much faster than before. Steve also mentioned the networked email. What he didnt mention was that Xerox also made the first(?) digital camera, this was in the 1970's..

@The20101991 Apple licensed the Xerox GUI, but what xerox had was half-baked.
Apple completed the vision to make it something meaningful for society and they did this by bringing culture into their products.
This was the point Steve (R.I.P) was making.
In later years he defined Apple at the intersection of technology and liberal arts - that's where original ideas flourish.
Microsoft (and Google) didn't and still doesn't get that.

Composite graphic effects on the UI both Mac and LInux copied, yes the wobbly windows was first seen on Windows (non-public), Previous Versions became Time Machine, MS Surface, Windows Phone 7, Photosynth, Kinect, etc etc. MS makes more original and cool stuff than Apple has ever dreamed of. And Apple's market share is getting much larger. Don't go by false numbers based on PCs in large companies; that's like counting Ford Crown Victorias used by Police departments.
Look to see what people are using. Everyday I see tons of iPods and iPhones and iPads, and lots of Apple laptops. I see more MacBooks than Windows laptops now.

@EricLynchSucks Do you know how a computer works? Windows (not Microsoft, as you put it) doesn't "let you" play games, developers make games for Windows. OSX games exist -- COD, Battlefield, Madden, Sims, Civilization, etc. Just not quite as many as for Windows, and that's because of what game developers choose to do, not Apple or Microsoft. Oh, and you can, in fact, play Windows games on a Mac. Try running Mac apps on a PC. Also, games aren't everything. Grownups use computers too.

This is a great interview to watch now (2011) when we can see what Apple, under his guidance of the last 14 years, has been able to become. I use a PC for the same reasons (Computer Art and Design, 3D Modeling and Animation) and the tools are far superior and for the most part nearly identical to what's available on the Macintosh. "Microsoft" is merely a distributor that manufactures an OS that is open and accessible to the vast majority of people. Jobs was right when he said MS they lacked Culture, but at the cost of culture came accessibility.

Is that why they're currently suing other companies in an attempts to keep competing products off the market? Even suing companies that make parts for them, and filing false claims, making up evidence, and getting caught. Maybe you should stop sucking so hard on Apple products, and read the news.

I could go in to many other things, but I am not going to since you would just refute them anyway, and I don't have the space to list them all.
People who claim Apple is the best company in the world need to know how they really are. People act like Steve Jobs is the greatest man who ever lived, when in truth he's a real douchebag. He hasn't donated a single cent out of Apple. At least Bill Gates donates millions upon millions to charity.

and i agree apple makes a little overpriced products, but cmon, if you buy a painting from a famous artist, it will cost ten times more than that of what you may pay any other, new artist, even if they both have equal talent....

I use an daily Apple for work, noob. Sure it's okay, it's got a great screen and is stable, however I still certainly prefer a decent PC running Windows 7. So to conclude..don't make assumptions you clown.

Since DOS, Microsoft has been in the business of making billions off of crappy products which they steal from others. Apple, in contrast, makes innovative and "insanely great" products which they invent. The world has finally seen the truth.

It dismays me that so many of you call this man a God.Sure,he's a brilliant & insightful businessman,but apple products are NOT perfect.Also,he has a child he refused to play alimony for & has no contact with.As Jackie Kennedy said,when you fail as a parent,no matter what else you succeed at,you fail as a human being.To me,his neglect of his child undermines everything else he's done.Sure,his tech/business savvy is huge,but I admire the dishwasher on minimum wage who looks after his kid more.

There's no doubt that apple make beautiful products. I used 1 at art school & loved it.But they're so costly compared to pcs.If you're on a budget,there's really no choice.Do I want a $1800 mac with 320 G or a $800 laptop with 640G ?Also,they tie you to their whole product line. I bought a movie on Itunes& it won't play on my tv set top box. It cost as much as the retail DVD,but the DRM restrictions make playing it on various formats a hassle.I can't afford apple tv. Apple is nice IF u have $.

It seems that what Jobs have said years back about Microsoft became real today, Apple retake the Market leadership by its original design and style of their products. Also i don't see a big difference between Windows 95 and XP or 7.

@darksaber112 Xerox had some real geniuses in their computer division, coming up with amazing things. Like the GUI in a time when people where using punch cards or maybe some text console. Like Steve said they also had come up with object oriented programming, that when it eventually spread, programmers could then program things much faster than before. Steve also mentioned the networked email. What he didnt mention was that Xerox also made the first(?) digital camera, this was in the 1970's..
