i love my mare on this topic i learn to crack a whip on horse back to the side on her, manny times the whip touched her side and she just stoood theere sleeping. nice horse nice whip noises and nice gaits!
you know, it's funny. that movie had such a powerful effect on me growing up that I heard the music and the whip and just started sobbing. Snowy River was the movie that made me want to be a great rider. so cool that you can do this!
Nope this is Juanita (PKR Valdez's Galon de Oro), her half sister by Primavera Valdez. She took to whip work like a duck to water. We think she's very pretty too:) Whip work is the one thing Mouse doesn't care for.
Is that Mouse? She is SOOO pretty! Good job sacking her out to the whip. We do that too when we train for foxhunting... (we use our hunt whip, which is very similar to the aussie stock whip, to keep the hounds in check). Keep up the good work!
I think ppl who say this is cruel have horses that have never left the "safety" of the arena. I ride trail and my horse is bothered by nothing. Except those evil horse eating plastic bags. Those things she is sure will kill her. :D Lovely horse and love the sound of that whip's crack.
For those who think it's cruel, it's not. I use a stock whip nearly everyday for work on cattle, merely for the sound to keep cattle moving.
When I break horses in on their 4th I will start using the whip off them, usually all horses accept it and the most they do is speed up a bit and trot or canter around.
And yes you only need to spin the whip once really, but some people do it a few times to get the timing or the feel right. It's not as easy as it looks.
Yes she is a daughter of Valdez- She used to belong to Valdez's owner Carol Simpson but Carol gave her and her half sister PKR Corazon de Oro (Mighty Mouse) to us. Both are wonderful mares.
A lot of horses really hate the whip and the sound it makes/are afraid of it, but this mare just never was. She couldn't care less. Some horses can be trained to accept it but some just never do.
Awesome! Amazingly calm horse too! My horse would've bolted and gone off bucking!!! Your mare is beautiful and looks like a fun smooth ride. You must make more videos of this!!!!
I presume what you meant to say was "lose" the whip rather than "loose." If you think the whip is there to threaten the horse, you don't understand horses. The rider shows skill and control, while the calmness of the horse proves a bond of mutual trust. A horse that will let someone twirl and pop a whip while riding is a horse that has love and faith for the rider.
P.S. to the owner: nice looking Morgan, smooth gaits! Can I have her? Just kidding, but she looks SO pretty and loveable.
I don't see what you think is wrong with it. I think it is great to get a horse use to scary sounds (like the sound of a whip) even if you don't intend to use it for anything else.
what is that the horse from the movie? cuz if so im soooo jealous! i love bombes and i love the movie.

Whip cracking over a horse might be the usual practice but a humna with himanity should not torture an animal.

well yeah they are afraid of and whip and the sound did you have to try it out to see... you clit
oakstorm 4 years ago
Quick question (sorry for posting twice): how come you spin it so many times before cracking it? It's sufficient to just do one.
Or is it for looks?

i do over the head but i stick my arm out heaps and flick the wrist and my horse is pretty fine.. u can do out the side but u hav to b careful..

IT's a shame that all you can do is over head cattlemans on a horse )for obvious reasons).
mistermeerkat 4 years ago
I don't do overhead on horseback. Do the "circus crack" out to the side.
