Ive got a Ace 250 and had been looking for a pinpointer within my price range for a year or so,it happened one day I was at the goodwill store and ran across a Kid's Quest child metal det.,original 14.99,mine was 2.00 and comes in three peice,I use the bottom part which is the main part of the detector and it gets 6 to 8 inches depth.,it wont get you into a real small hole, but one thats at least 6" in diam. it works great and the price was right,it originally came from TJ max.
NOTHING awesome or cool about digging a hole you can park a Jeep in. Makes all of the us look like a bunch of 200 pound squirrels! Who knows what the hell he dug, he never shows it on the video. If it was a 1782, he just screwed it up by rubbing the piss out of it with dirt! Dumb, just dumb!
I got the pistol probe,I bought a 9 volt battery charger, but need to know which type of rechargeable 9 volt battery to buy as there are different rating like (7.2 8.4 9.6 voltage on 9 volt batteries) if I use two 9.6 it might be too much power & it might damage the probe.Using two 8.4 might underpower it and will not be up to 18 volts.Which NIMH battery rating 9 Volt should i buy?? I was thinking of useing one 8.4 with one 9.6 rechargeable battery to get it close to 18 volts.

Everything in the video is wrong. You are buying another MD instead of a true pinpointer. If you knew how to use ur detector u would never b digging a hole of that size.u r suppose to use you MD to 1st locate and 2nd pinpoint the object which would result in hole about 1/4 of the size you dug, and saved about 3/4 of the time you spent.A true PP should not detect any further then two inches from the tip.*do your research before u start digging up creators and making the rest of us look like idiots*
I have this Detector Pro Pistol Probe and it does detect gold nuggets i tested on a small piece about 1/3 size of a dime and less then half thickness and the probe pick it up at little over 11/2 inch away.
nice video. i do find pinpointers a plus. mostly because i dig in grass areas. like parks and grass fields. so u don't have to dig a big hole when you metal detector picks something up.
since my metal detector gives me a lot of information, i don't dig big holes anyways. and am glad i have the pro pointer.
pistol probe might be good, but it seems like a portable metal detector, not a pin pointer that goes max 3 inches deep. as my flavour is.
So if the pistol probe detects 5 inches away how would you get more sensitive pinpointing so you know your getting closer to the target? turn the threshold down? because the target could be on the side of the tip too, not just straight down from the tip
Ok test but if you pinpoint with your detector it will tell you how deep the target is so you're not digging 7 more inches and a wider hole than you need. You're detector is supposed to break it down for you so you don't have to dig such a big hole. I'd say human error is mostly at fault when people can't find their targets no matter what pinpointer they're using.
@1cathexis, the V3 is sort of the hobby end of things-- I use a German Aiisel Beede for my detecting-- runs about $19k and takes two operators (ideally 3) but can find like nothing else in the $15k-$40k range)
I bought the Detector Pro Pistol pointer based on your videos. I love it. A bit big but it gets fantastic depth so I can live with the size. After you use it for a while you get a good feel for the target. Hard to describe. Thanks for the videos.
..Nice work....I'm picking up a Tesoro Lobo next week, it has a pinpointer but the hand held looks a lot more convienient. It would be interesting to know what that coin is worth. A great hobby that actually pays you back your investment.
Nice find and many thanks for an informative test...........however, your hole made it look like a comet had just hit...........makes my most embarrasing plug look gr8.......thanks.
Man, you have gotten some pretty harsh comments! I can tell you I only wish I could find a coin like that! Find of a lifetime my friend! As for pinpointers, having the Pistolprobe and a Sunray, I give the edge to the Sunray simply because it can discriminate like your detector. Anyway, hope you post some more vids? Some of use enjoy them and it's been awhile since you've posted any!
question what was the depth reading on the detector before digging? nice job of working the different pin pointers but you should have known you'd need a deeper hole to start with. tho one did show the coin deaper than the rest. it shouldnt have come down to that. hope you use a towel to colect dirt next time to fill the hole back. good job not sliceing through the tree root very green of you.
kanitess I always bring a little plastic bowl and bring about 5 cotton balls and a bottled water to put the coin in between the cotton and pour in the water and shake! that's how I can read the date on my goodies =D
Nice video and coin, but I sincerely hope you dont always dig a crater like that!!! For that size of hole you should have been digging out something the size of a soccer ball!!!! Who in there right mind would give someone permission to hunt in a spot if they saw this video and think we all dig our targets that way?
Why can't you guys resist rubbing a coin with your fingers?! Is that hard to wash it with some distilled water?! Don't you know that silver and gold can be scratched really easy, even by bare, clean skin?! Apart from this and the huge messy hole, it's a nice demonstration.
I've watch this video several times. You can witness the excitement of why we dig dirt. You just never know. Awesome video and a great find .Congrats...
Good video. Thats not a plug its a manhole cover. :)
I have the DetectorPro headset. Not quite the depth of the pistol probe. But still 3"+. I also have a Fisher probe. It has to be the worst probe I have EVER used. It can do 1/4" at best.
I got it free which was too much. I'm gonna Ebay it. I probably shouldn't have said anything. :)
Excellent. Thanks for taking the time to do this video. 2009 will be my first year doing this and your video saves a lot of time trying to figure it all out.
Awesome vid, best find vid I have ever seen, but would have liked a picture of the coin. Can I please ask, do you think the Pistol Probe is overkill for a lower end Minelab detector such as Xterra? You aren't going to get the really deep signals. Is something like the Bountyhunter sufficient? Also, for those really deep holes, I can suggest a further piece of equipment for you: at least at the outset, if you know the coin is deep, you could use .......a shovel!
The probe is not overkill at all. I personally enjoy hearing the target with my probe everytime I open the hole. My number of targets has increased because I find the targets real fast. The major plus is that I don't scratch the targets any more!
Thanks! Glad you liked the field test. The Pistol Probe has a silent LED mode where it lights up when you get a signal. It does not vibrate. My guess is that since its a hand held pulse metal detector, it may be too sensitive and cause a vibrator to go on too often. Most probes that vibrate have no adjustments and only go down an inch or two. The Pistol Probe has a threshold and frequency setting.
Excellent find - no hollywood acting there, huh? I'm a gold detectorist. I know the pro-pointer will acquire small nuggets, but am not familiar with the pistol probe. So, I am wondering if it, too, is effective for nugget shooting. Any experience there?
You are correct, we don't see Hollywood calling us anytime soon... as you can tell, we don't see too much colonial silver pop out! Regarding the gold, I have not tested the Pistol Probe on gold nuggets but on a small 18K gold ring I am able to detect it deeper on the the highest frequency setting. If you call the people at Detectorpro, they should be able to answer your question about the nuggets.
Addendum: Congrats on capturing on film a real oldie! I've seen half-dimes and barbers caught on video, but this one is a really nice find to get on film. Good work.
Thanks! The signal read like a Large Cent on my Explorer with the ID box jumping off the chart over the top line. Normally silver and large cents read like this. The depth bar was only about 10% full yet the audio gave a nice high pitch "flutter sound". I knew it was about 10" deep. With all three indicators this good (depth, sound and locking visual ID), I knew this was the signal to put on video.
Fully agree on those signal characteristics. When you hear/see something like that.....you need to dig. That was one hell of a find to capture on film.
I like this video/test......but the Sunray Probe gets more than 1".....it gets 2-3" easy. The White's and Garrett are almost useless, but between the pistol and Sunray, the Sunray is superior for the following....1) It has just the right amount of depth (Not too hot).....which is necessary to avoid goose chases and.....you can hear exactly what you're PP'ing. Never used the pistol, but I can foresee problems with PP'ing 5" in all metal....you'll pick up everything. A PP shouldn't be that hot.
Why a deep seeking Probe helps: A coin lying flat is at the center of the hole; a coin on an angle is not. I dig a lot of targets 8-10" deep. Too many times my Sun Ray would not hear the target. Continuing to dig, thinking the target was centered, I HACKED it because it was at an angle off to the side. A deeper probe reduces target casualties. You can adjust the depth by reducing the threshold. Its all about personal preference but the Pistol Probe gives you the option of going deep. Thanks
Did I miss something in the video. I think it was an awesome find and congrats. But, I ddont recall seeing you use the Sunray Probe in the Field Test other than at the beginning during the air test. I have used Sunray Probes for many years and never had an issue with depth.
The Sun Ray is not a bad probe but if you compare side by side, the Pistol Probe is simply much deeper. I used the Sun Ray for years and it is fun to use especially since it works with the Explorer but you really need to see the Pistol Probe to compare. Many times I have opened a hole on a deep target only to find the Sun Ray would not hear the target until I got within a couple inches. With the Pistol Probe you will hear it and ID the location in the hole much sooner. Thanks for the comments.
You are right! It actually is a hand held pulse detector and it does get louder as you get closer to the target. An important thing I have found is that you must keep the "coil" moving to get a clear response because it is a motion detector. I have not scratched one coin yet!
There must be something wrong with your Sunray probe. Mine will detect a nickel at 4 inches. Since it's a mini coil you have to have it in motion to get it to work good. Either pump it up and down or side to side real quick. Do you always make a 10 inch plug?

Good Grief!
First get a real detector like a White's DFX
or V3 so you can see how deep u r BEFORE you dig.
2nd, try digging a better hole! You dug a plug that was only 2or3" deep but was a big around as a bowling ball !
Guy - you need better technique & better
equipment.
