a brillant attack helicopter one qestions for you helicopter folk out there i hear in a dive this baby punched 280 mph is this true or myth plz reply thnx.
My Father in Law was on the team that designed the optics for the gun site. I have some of the technical drawings and some pictures but never got a chance to see the helicopter in action until I saw this video. Thanks for sharing!
@hotlanta35 the page on Wikipedia says 4 of the aricraft are still around, one in the Ft Rucker Museum,one in storage at Rucker, one on out door display at Ft Campbell that I got to see about 10 years ago when my reserve unit went down there for AT, and one on display at Ft Polk. The highest production number any of these have is #7 , but the article says 10 test aircraft were built.
That thing is damn ugly, but a very interesting concept. Definetly a forerunner to the apache with the integrated helmet targeting system. Would probably be a heck of a mantainance hog as well with all those rotors and that swiveling seat and all!
@fedupx5900 yeah whats up with that we come into the native americans country kill nearly half them off, then we name a bunch of roads,bridges and attack helicopters after them.is that suppose to help anyone!?!?!
yeah your right,the AF got anal over the armys intent on arming mohawks,and birdogs in vietnam i bet this project had them screaming to congress i also believe the airforce leaned on congress to have this project killed
@boobtuber06 actually the A-10 was designed after this concept. the airforce put out the specifications for an attack airframe designed to provide close air support. for fear of losing the close air support role. damn thing looks like an A-10 with rotor bleades though.
Cheyenne was pretty badass.

It was a decent helicopter, but had the bad habit of flexing the rotor thru the cockpit.

Are there any Native American tribe names left for new helicopters?

@fedupx5900
Why do you think we haven't seen a new helicopter since the cancellation of the Comanche?

The AH-56 Cheyenne seems more advanced for its time, the 1960s, than the AH-64 Apache was for its time,the 1980s.

I'm a big fan of military harware. I must say that I've never heard of this aircraft. Looks like a forerunner to the AH-64 Apache.

It was. I believe the AF was getting nervous because it was getting close to fixed-wing qualities and championed the A-10.
Would've been an EXCELLENT sucessor to the Cobra.
