  • I have owned videocards from both companies, and IMO they both are good... All comes down to user preference.

  • just shows you dont need a $1000 graphics card to play with good graphics i have this graphics card and have no problems maxing out any game on it

  • @harritaco i belive it depends alot on the CPU also :)

  • @Shawek1337 no the cpu is not a bottelneck

  • @mennogamer559 if you read the comment i made a reply to you will notice that i meant that you cant max out any game with a $1000 graphics card if you have a crappy cpu :P

  • @Shawek1337 no duuuuh than is your cpu a bottelneck but this combination is not a bottelneck :P

  • @thefrenchdragoon I see so many idiots asking this question on videos like this. How dumb are you?

  • average fps?

  • Will my sytstem be able to handle the the HD4870 as i plan on upgrading i have a :

intel pentium dual cpu e2160 1.80ghz

    2046mb of ram

    Windows home premium

My current video card is a 7600 gs 1gb

  • @Ryanhelsby you can do it but your cpu is than the bottelneck

  • @thefrenchdragoon

To show the native performance. As Fraps doesn't capture 1:1 realtime performance as it'll need a chunk of resources itself.

  • lol i get 30-40 in battle in crysis with i7 930 3ghz and 5970

  • crysis is only dual core optimised I guess.

  • @mitko1251 Newer generation of video cards are quad core optimised, cpus improve a performance of gpu.

  • @george3dmax True, but that's not what I meant... I mean crysis isn't utilising the 3rd and 4th core of the CPU, as far for newer technology, it makes the game faster on newer CPU / GPU.

  • With the same setup, how much better would the framerate be if I was playing on a 19" 1440x900 screen @ native?

  • modern techlology

  • what is better the gtx 295 or the gtx 495? which one is better to run crysis or gta iv on very high or ultra high ???? and is 512 mb of video card good enough or do i need 1gb and here are my pc specs pc specs:

processor Amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 5000+

    2.60 Ghz

    Ram 4,00 GB

    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits.

    Directx11

    512 mb video card

i dont know if this is graphics card :

NVIDIA Geforce 8400 GS - want to change for a gtx 295 or a gtx 495 which one is better ???

  • no se ve un carajo

  • I don't get it. I have a HD 4870, but when I run Crysis on Very High I get a FPS of 15-25. Perhaps it has something to do with my crappy CPU's.

  • if ppl get this with so weak cpu i wonder i get with my 4Ghz amd phenom II quardocre with this card lol

  • The processor doesn't really contribute with alot of performance if the videocard isn't up to snuff. And looking back I doubt my CPU was a mentionable bottleneck as I only saw a minimal performance increase with my now close to one-year-old Phenom II X4 940BE even at 3,6ghz.

  • I disagree. A month ago I was on AthlonX2 7750 with 4Gigs of DDR2 and HD4870. Crysis had much too low framerate at 1920x1200 in highest details, to have fun playing. Switched to PhenomII X4 945, 8Gigs of DDR3 (card is the same as before). Now framerate never drops below 30, in highest details, 1920x1200.

  • @BorkaBonum

    pentium 4 + 5750 = 10 fps crisis

    quad core 8300 + 5750 = 50+ fps crisis

  • @ShervinGetOffMee

Bear in mind the Pentium 4 was absolute bullshit even when it was first produced, and single-core. And that Crysis is capping most videocards - which is the problem here. A buffed processor will benefit the performance - but only for as long as the GPU won't act as a severe bottleneck.

  • @BorkaBonum

lolz alrighty but p4 kicks ass :D its actually faster than my gaming pc right now, it just cant handle games, makes a fast office computer

  • @ShervinGetOffMee

Nah. It has a high clock frequency, but the muscles behind them is just complete rubbish. It got completely raped by Athlon 64 which set the standard of desktop micro-processors ever since. Like - a Pentium 4 at 4ghz got handed by a Athlon 64 at slightly over 2ghz.

Pentium 4 was always shit. Caught on due to high availability and reasonably low prices - and for businesses basically becuase Intel has always played foul.

  • Pentium Dual-Core E2200 2.2 Oc 3.2ghz 1600FSB 4Gb DDR2 800 Oc 960 9800GTX+ Sc Evga GigaByte MotherBoard Max Out crysis 2x AA with Natural Mod 1600-1200 Res 30+ fps ^^ game is very nice the game just doesnt get along with ati cards Blame the engine but yes even with a old processor i play this shit ^^

  • @demon71090

    Dammit, i need a quad-core and a 9800 GTX+.

My dual core is fucked up. :D

  • can u see a big difference in the graphics between a 1280x720 42" lg tv and a 1280x1024 18" monitor ?

    which whould i use to play games on the computer im buying ? AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition (quad 3.4ghz) Foxconn 6100M61-PMV (6x USB2.0, Onboard GeForce video) 4GB DDR2 800mhz (2x 2GB) 500GB S-ATAII 3.0Gb/s 400W

in which of the above tv/monitor should i play? and in which will look better and would u guess how many fps i would get in each of them ? Thxxxxx

    hope u reply =P

  • @yuriperiotto

Monitor sizes is relevant to the environment you're playing/watching in. But pixels per inch is fundamentalif you're not having the monitor on the other side of the room.

There is no performance difference between the two monitors however as they both have the same hardware resolution.

  • @BorkaBonum but hey, no performance ? one is 1280x720 and the other is 1280x1024 O.O and the monitoro i would stay close to it, and the tv about 1 metre/meter? from it ....but well..42" is quite big for 720p, the pixels r quite big, so i was wondering if its gonna look bad even with AAx4, can u give another opinion about the graphics ? and how about the fps ? would it be higher than 30fps in very high? (in both monitor)

    Thxx again XD

  • @BorkaBonum oh, subscribed

  • @BorkaBonum thx a lot man =D and ill buy a 1600x1200 or and 1600x900 monitor, even if it doesnt run crysis on veryhigh with a least 30fps, ill still run all the others games i want with more than 40 so im ok with da =D thx again

  • @yuriperiotto

Believe it or not it would run better on the tv

  • @IRGUYProductions thanks for the reply but now i know a lot about pc hardware lol, when i posted this i knew absolutely nothing ... and yeah .. it would run better on the tv because of the lower resolution but it wouldnt run crysis because that pc has a onboard gpu LOL

  • for me i've got a phenom 9600 be @ 2.3 GHz, 4 GB of DDR2 800 MHz, HD 4870 512 MB and running on Windows 7 x64

my fps are about 15-25 @ very high DX 10

    That's quite sad about ati.

  • @NattapatZ

The HD4870 is also an extremely affordable videocard - and worth mentioning is how Crysis was built by Nvidia enginers, basically.

And big deal since the game kind of sucks anyway.

  • @BorkaBonum

Yeah, i know that this game was "designed" by nvidia, but i had a 3870x2 (it died because of my psu) and the fps sucks my balls, 10-15 fps @ very high DX10 for a high-end 450 bucks card?

I suppose we'll have to wait until the 5800 series prices are a bit lower :)

BTW what's your monitor, is it a 226BW?

  • @NattapatZ

Its designed by Nvidia to utilize their GPUs more effeciently. Plus CryEngine 2 is probably the most retarded engine on the planet.

I dont remember what my monitor was called (just woke up) but it was a Samsung 22" - which I gave to my little brother once I grabbed another since it kinda sucked.

  • Its not the video card thats giving you low fps, its your cpu thats your bottlenecks.

  • @illmagnified

This game always needs more GPU muscles, and the CPU rarely bottlenecks anything these days.

  • Yes but when the game is Crysis, and you hve a 4870 paired with a dual core Athlon, your cpu is the bottleneck, you would get atleast 10-15 more fps if you had a quad core.

  • @illmagnified

    Ah ha haa. That's hilarous.

I jumped to 4GB of PC6400 RAM and a Phenom II 940BE @ 3500mhz half a year ago and the boost in Crysis was overall +3-4fps at 1920*1080. The CryEngine 2 is merely a GPU-hungry benchmark.

  • that doesn't sound right, I went from a dual core to quad core and got almost 17fps boost just from the cpu alone. I went from a Dual Core AMD Athlon 2.8GHZ to an Intel 3.6GHZ Quad Core and it gave me a huge boost.

  • @illmagnified

That's also up the resolution, the lower the resolution the lesser GPU load and the more the CPU comes into it all.

It could also have to do with the Intel engineering in this game - I don't know. I didn't see any difference the eye could tell.

  • That makes sense, Intel did help Crytek design and program the engine to take advantage of the Intel Architecture and Its quad Core architecture.

  • 1310

  • Question: What would be the Intel equivalent of your AMD Athlon X2 6000+? I will have an e8400/e8500, and the same graphics card, similar ram. can I hope for the same results?

  • @5MinuteEarth

AMD Athlon X2 6000+ is ancient, but at the same time I have no idea what the direct equalent would be from Intel - I guess it'd be up to the clock frequency exclusively as long as it's an Core 2 Duo model.

  • iPodGameNerddottube

    me too lol:D

  • i have the same monitor

  • AMD PHENOM X3 720,MBD GYGABITE MA770-UD3,POWER COLOR ATI RADEON HD 4850 512MB DDR3.MEM 2X2GB KINGSTON CL6,HDD 640 GB WD BLUE CAVIAR SATA.This is my comp is it good?but sometimes crysis lags,is this because the comp or game?

  • really????, your computer seems very good, to run crysis, even at very high settings. i dodnt know tbf, why it shuld lag.

  • Other comments said that the problem is in the game so i dont know sometimes i can run 13 programs and internet, then it doesnt lag..-.- so its probably something in game

  • A 4850 will not run very high dx10 with good fps....

  • hi guys i have a dual core 1,86 ghz procesor,3 gb ram,9800gt can i run crysis in high settings?

  • probs not i have 2.2 ghz dual core 3GB ram ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 and i can run on medium with 25-30 fps

  • yes, depend of your monitor, maybe it will run smoothly in 1280x1024.

  • no, your cpu is very weak and ram also. Need atleast 4gigs of ram and a high end dualcore or midrange quad (q6600 or higher) and no less than a 9800gtx+ to run it on high. For one 9800gt i think youll be around med settings.

  • well i got 2.2 ghz dual core, 4gb ram, and 9800gt, and i can run crsis all on high.

u cant judge how ppl can run there games, without u evening owning htte parts in the first place.

oh by the way, 2.2 ghz and 9800gt, its the graphics card that is weaker.

  • high isnt as demanding as very high, also u are probably not gaming on anything above 1280x1024. Im not judging how people run there games. I am only telling u that u cant run crysis in very high settings at an HD resolution without a 3.0ghz+ quadcore or dualcore cpu with enough cache, and a videocard that is intended for hd gaming like the 4870/x2/4890 gtx 275 or 85 and above.

  • yes, waht u say is true, and u are also right, i am only running at 1280 x 1024.

  • I have a e5300 @ 3.8 ghz and 9800gtx+ and i can run it with the Real lifesis mod 1440 x 900

  • 1440x900 is not Hd and is no where near as good as 1920x1200. Also you probably dont go over 20fps on your gaming with lifesis, i also believe you lag alot. a 9800GTX IS a good card, however for crysis i dont think you can run anything above high settings with lifesis mod.

  • @Feder147 1440*900 is HD, just not Full-HD.

    1280x720 = HD

    1920*1080 = Full-HD

    1920*1200 = Random-ass 19:10 resolution

  • Is 20 fps mutch on crysys? Haver never played the game.

  • crysis runs good with 25-30 fps. other games at those frames sucks, but crysis its ok with those frames

  • how can you enjoy Crysis ( or any shooter for that matter ) with 20 fps ? ..

  • Nobody is enjoying Crysis, it's just a benchmark. And here is my benchmark results. Tadah.

  • lol chicken!

  • aw poor chicken!

  • you dont need a high number for the resolutions~ cos if your monitor cant support it, the screen is stretched and it will become blur~ always use the native resolution for the monitor to get the perfect crisp display~ :D

  • Hey u guys think crysis will work at 1920x1080 on my system...i got a LG 27" HD monitor...and my system configuratons are:

    Intel® CoreTM i7-920、 2.66GHz/ 8MB L2

    6GB DDR3 1333mhz....ATi Radeon 4870 (1GB)...Storage 640GB 7200 rpm,Sata..High definition 7.1 channel Audio... please HeLp!

  • yea it should. can't say how fast but it'll be playable.

if you maintain the 16:9 aspect ratio you can use other resolutions lower then 1080 and still get a pretty quality image to look at.

I'm not sure if ATi cards have intergrated pixel scalers like the enthuisist level Nvidia cards do. if they do,they tend to kick alot more ass then the ones that ship intergrated with LCD panels.

  • With them specs it will still lag mate

  • 1680x1050 whay people play on this rez? i got 1920x1080

  • People play on 1680*1050 becuase it's the standard for the monitors sold only a year ago. It's for the past six months 1920*1080 monitors has become so amazingly affordable.

Myself I have both this awful Samsung monitor and a BenQ 22" 1920*1080 monitor since the start of this year.

  • hey you know theres nothing wrong with a 1680x1050 screen if its that size. its when you start seeing that resolution on a 25-26" screen that it looks terrible.

    i've got a 16:10 28" Hanns-G monitor that runs at 1920x1200.

looks like your computer was kicking ass at that res so it shouldn't slow it down much to bust off 1920x1080 it is a 4870 after all.

should hook them both up and try and run two individual crysis games at once. :P

  • Easiest way finding out: Download the Demo.

  • Lol at the chicken! :p

  • PARLANTES CULIAOS ORDINARIOS XDD

    comprate un SUBWOOFER

  • Do you ever expirience problems with it on ultra high with that card? I have the same card and I run 1680x1050 to and I run it on high with very little issues, lag here and there but thats it.

  • That's because the new Catalyst drivers are terrible...

A card that is as "big" as HD4870 can't even run Linux Mint for 5 minutes because the official ATI drivers for both, Linux and XP/Vista, has a serious memory leak error....

You see the RAM draining for no reason... until it crashes the whole thing...

Omega Drivers are by far a better choice... Or the old Catalyst 9.1 or 8.x ...

ATI is losing it after getting taken over by AMD

  • Awesome to see it running at around 25 frames, but I'd rather turn the graphics down quite a bit more to get the rate up.

It runs like crap on my machine, barley even 25 frames at lowest setting. Although, that is the demo, the retail version probably has patches that improve performance.

  • He is constantly looking up, that's always high fps.

  • Looking up at times so showcase the "Very High" characterism; "Godlights" from the chopper. But that's only in the start of the video. Looking down in the ground and directly up in the sky renders less data to be drawn up on screen, but that's only for segments in this video.

  • nop....

your catalyst drivers are bad ... Nvidia drivers tend to outperform ATI even on lower hardware specs ...

get Omega Drivers or revert to older Catalyst drivers...

  • I use a 9600 GSO, I don't have Catalyst.

Or was that reply not directed at me?

  • Remember it's not up to the Drivers, but up to the simple fact Crysis was basicly built by Nvidia Engineers.

  • ATi is behind Nvidia on my fronts, like 3D Vision for example, since ATI didn't come up with its own stereoscopic kits...

Radeons were #1 BEFORE they got bought by AMD...

And AMD is not doing well either since they are seriously behind Intel..

It's a shame because ATI was Canada's pride.

  • 3D Vision is just an dull gimmick as it requires special hardware, both for videocard adapter, silly glasses plus ofcourse overpriced monitors. And I don't see how it would be an wise investment for AMD to kick for gimmicks seeing how poorly 3D Vision is catching on from Nvidia.

Since AMD bought ATi they failed once; with the R600. Compensated with HD4000-series which spanked Nvidia on the balls performing exceptional while keeping prices down to half (at times) to Nvidias offerings.

  • nope it doesnt have patches to improve performance =/ you need a GOOD graphics card

And my Nvidia 9500GTX get's about 15-20 FPS on high T_T

  • Oh my, well in that case, I'll just have to borrow the game and see how the retail version plays on some lower settings.

  • well if you are playing on a low inch monitor you should run fine with graphics Med/High on a XFX 9500 GTX. It's cheap and it can run decent games like crysis or call of duty 4/5.

  • Well, my monitor's resolution is 1680 x 1050, but for more resource heavy games I usually don't come close to even 1440 x 900.

  • also please keep in mind i'm a computer noob and my friend helped me choose these, so if somethings are missing/ not compatible with eachother plz don't hate me.

  • could this pc handle crysis?

Western Digital Caviar Green 750GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive; GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS5 ATX Intel Motherboard; Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Sound Card; Sony Optiarc DVD/CD Rewritable Drive Black SATA Model AD-7240S-0B; XFX Radeon HD 4870 HD-487A-ZHFC Video Card; XFX Radeon HD 4870 HD-487A-ZHFC Video Card; XFX Radeon HD 4870 HD-487A-ZHFC Video Card; Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor; COOLER MASTER RS-700-AMBA-D3 700W Power Supply

  • I have the 1 GB version but I can't crank it up to 1860 by 1050.

  • Why'd you kill the chicken? :(

  • cos its only hudle of polygons like all other things in game... :D

  • ATI RULZ!

  • Hey You the same flatscreen than me ^^

  • 0:50 Mmmmm Chicken

  • HAHAHA i was just thinking the same thing

  • vista is not bad with right settings :)

  • It still is. Vista is as fail, if not more fail, than Windows 98.

  • Is my computer good for games ?

Intel Dual Core 2 Quad 2,88 Ghz Q9550

HIS Radeon HD4870 1 gb IceQ turbo

    4092 MB RAM

    650 W Netagg

    Good ??

  • LMAO dude thats EXCELLENT for games

  • YEah, very good!

  • you're PC is great gaming. it will be able to run Crysis on very high at playable FPS. but Crysis 2 is coming out in 2010, so...

  • so what , It's good to for crysis 2

  • is amd Quad-Core just as good as i7 cpus for crysis??? also what do you think about ati vs. nvidia?? would it cost alot in proformance if a get two 2gb 4870 x2s rather than to two gtx 285s which cost more??

  • Comment removed

  • i like ATI better than nvidia.

  • Why

  • it IS better than Nvidia!

  • HD4870 is significantly less expensive. At times even half the price.

Right now AMD present the absolute best performance for the money. Combining inexpensive AM2+ motherboard with great-performing (and alright-clocking) Phenom II X4 and downright amazingly performing videocards for little money.

  • Omg,you are very stupid!

  • Comment removed

  • idiot is the best computer in the world fucker

  • Comment removed

  • hahaha dude far from it..

  • I was gonna say something smart arsed about "DUH there is such a thing as fraps..." and then i remembered what an arse Crysis is to get a decent framerate, WITHOUT the need for that fraps crap.

Oh and it says in the descrition >.>

  • for what 750w? o.O

  • and a another dx10 vid its boring now

  • put the kot down

  • this card is sweet.

  • lol, what the hell leave that chicken alone.

  • while i have read many of the comments about the HD 4870... im running 2 in crossfire and pretty much the whole game runs like butter (on max settings btw). now im not sayin ati is better then nivida, but when it comes to it the end result that is all that matters...numbers are only numbers...

  • my nox urano 500w support HD4870? anwser please

  • depends on the ampere of it and the other device in your pc

  • Can my hd 4650 handle this game?

If so what resoultion and what settings?

    Please replay quickley!!!

  • dont have any AA on and im sure youll be ok.... dont expect any great frame rates though...

  • Alright! But im gonna switch this graphic card to a ASUS RADEON HD4850 512MB !

  • same screen as ihave thats good screen but rely nice graphics mine runs only on high (dont have vista)

  • noob

  • Do you think i can run crysis whit 1650 x 1024 all on very high whit a powercolor HD4870 1GB PCS+?

  • suck la see the line of the graphic !! are u all blind ?? are this ia ATI card quality ?

  • Dang, your processor is 3.2 GHz. I hope my 2.4 will be able to run it with 3MB RAM and this card.

  • i ve got the 4870 but i wnate dto know if is it dangerours ton run crysis on very high settings ?? im talking about the heat in the card

    answers are welcome thanks

  • Well, if u have minimum one case fan that should be no problem ^^

  • Fan speeds are automatic unless you specify a selectable fan-speed in CCC. If your card exceeds 80*C it will increase fan-speeds to make the card run at 80*C at all times while also remaining a low noise profile.

That is a reason why the card is running so hot - it's running with a priority of low noise, if you want it to run cooler you should consider increasing fan rotation speed in CCC.

  • what did you type in the console to get your fps showen ?

  • he was using a program called "FRAPS"

  • dude! don't buy ATI HD 4870 , i'm a sell person at IT store , u know that 1 month how many customer come in want to change the card ? OMG a ton, by the way the most warranty also ATI card , it making me crazy

  • great arguement....u convince us all. Why should we believe u? u culd be a fanboy from nvidia trying to tell us to buy an nvidia card. and just cuz ppl from yur shitty store want to return a card dosent mean its bad.

  • This looks awesome! I'm so buying this! =)

  • this version, yes

  • idiot 30fps are not smooth

  • 30fps is da limit to "smoothness"

  • ehhhhhhhhhhhhh no

  • ehhhhhhh yeah

  • ..........................no

  • very high settings?

  • I have

    Intel E8500 @3.16GHz

    radeon HD 4870 512MB

    2x2GB DDR3 1333MHz Kingston

    2x 500GB Seagate 7200 (raid 0)

    Vista Premium 32-bit

    and at 1680x1050 crysis 1.0.0 givesd me ONLY 24 fps with AA x 4, AF x 8

    WHY??????????????????????

  • if you have a 20'' or 22'' then 4x AA isnt really needed, go for two

    and go for 4x AF

  • AA is not needed for 1680x1050 resolution.

  • AntiAliasing is needed for that resolutiion depending on the monitor size. I see great differences with AntiAliasing on and off on my 20" 1680x1050 monitor as of where it gets much less noticable, or necessary, with my 22" 1920x1080 monitor. But with that said you always will notice AntiAliasing on and off, but the higher resolution on smaller monitor the less visual impact would the filters do.

  • loose the AA< it's not needed at that res. download the updates.

  • YOU CHICKEN KILLER! =(

  • haha.. It's just a game, I doubt he'd do that to a real chicken.

  • =D

    =(

    =P

  • im getting:

    Radeon 4870 1gb

    4gb ram 1000mhz

    e7400 core 2 duo 2.8ghz

this should run it a bit smoother than this no?

  • see if you can overclock the cpu a bit, say around 3ghz.

its probably not necessary but u have fast ram, fast gpu.

    reply on what you think

  • yeah I was thinking about doing some minor overclocking but the thing is I dont have extra coolers so i don't want it to get too hot

  • Saphire Radeon HD 4850

    AMD Phenom X4 9950

    4 GB ram

What would the framerate on crysis be at 1920 x 1080?

  • Maxed out DX10 , I would say 15-20fps. But if you tweak it and use DX9 you should get higher.

  • not high

you need a better video card

  • buy a BenQ E2400 HD i recommend i !

  • decent screen id rather go for the G2410HD just to try out the 1:40000 DCR ^^

  • Use a screen recorder like fraps instead!

  • fraps reduces the FPS like crazy

  • did you read his comment?

fraps made the game look unplayable

if you hate the recording blame him for not using/having a camera stand

  • Maybe with a new CPU you could play at 35fps... dont now .. a Athlon 7750 Black Series or a C2D E7xxx, that are chip options ..

    HD4870 Rulez!

  • nah the cpu isint holding back the gpu

i also have a 4870 and it had the same fps with both the
