But, if I got woke up to that about three hours before I had to wake up, I might not find it so amusing.
An Aussie friend told me he felt safer with the kooks around because they love to eat snakes. They can swoop in and nail a poisonous one before it sees them coming. Great population control of the vipers heh?
People only associate it with the jungle because some stupid movie sound director didn't know what animals were native to Africa, came across a clip of a Kookaburra, and decided to throw it in without a second thought.
its the same thing with that movie about the guy horse racing in saudi arabia (i think saudi arabia)... the scene with the vultures... instead of the regular sounds they make (hisses and the rare squawk), they substituted it with the calls of the sandhill cranes.
lol and my mom and dad makes fun of my laugh wait till they here this. haha XD

Reminds me of a session of Parliament... much the same noises.

@kbjerke No, nothing like Parliament: unlike politicians, kookaburras make perfect sense.

God, what a racket. That sound has been recorded in many film backgrounds, usually what North Americans associate with the "jungle".

For the longest time, I thought that was the sound of monkeys, until I picked up a book.
The bird is so much more fascinating. :D
