England: 1,000+ years old -- Chile in 1970: 160 years old. I think one of the two had a head start in democracy.
The Soviets and Allende made their contact in 1953. Soviets stopped helping in 1972. Almost 20 years later.

Allende got 36.2% in 1973 just like David Cameron received 36.1% in the recent British election. However, in the elections in 1973 UP increased their % to 44% which is larger than any of Thatcher's so-called "landslides".
So i was correct. Allende wasn't a Soviet puppet, indeed they stoped sending money when Allende refused to use brute force on the rightist in Chile:

The USA in 1920 was the most powerful nation in the world, barely suffering from World war I, whilst Russia was in ruins, industry destroyed, monarchy crushed, economy ruined by the war etc.
Yet, 30 yrs later they would emerge as the USA's fiercest rival! from basket case to super power!
In the end, Allende won 44% of the vote which is a larger % than Thatcher received in any of her election wins!

Chile went against 2 countries at once, one of which was stronger than Chile yet Chile still prevailed
