This anniversary special gala was shot on the set of WCVB's then-new late night talk show, 'Night Talk with Jane Whitney' (which later appeared in syndication, in selected markets, as 'The Jane Whitney Show' in 1993).

Now WCVB turns 35 this year! Actually this is the second channel 5 for Boston. Before 1972, 5 was WHDH-TV.

It still doesn't, but I think the station has adjusted well in the 7 years since the split. Ed Harding becomes the new lead anchor (the spot held by Chet and then Anthony Everett) on 3/26/07.

It has to be 3/19, since 'CVB replaced the old WHDH-TV on 3/19/72 and they always aired these specials on the exact anniversary (including the 25th).

The Chronicle 25 year anniversary aired on 1/27/07 - close but not exactly (1/25/82). Speaking of which, if there is an interest, I can also post segments from that.

Well that's unusual, but I do recall the station's 25th anniversary special airing on 3/19/97. I distinctly remember Peter Jennings, when narrating the history of Channel 5 in Boston, saying that 'CVB signed on at 3AM "25 years ago today", so I know that's correct. I also saw this anniversary show you are putting up, I swore it also aired on the birthday, but I am taking your word for it! :-)

Well you should know that I trust you also! :) (and not that the exact date really matters) but I had to check once we started to debate it. I only state exact dates when there are several pieces of information that lead me to the same conclusion. I reviewed the tape and found the clues I needed.
