@WellingtonBikeCam01 No the driver had no intention of finding or talking to us until we went and found him. Haven't spoken to the other cyclist for a while so don't know what steps he has taken.
The video makes it look like a hit-n-run; fleeing the scene of an crash; failing to assess injuries at the scene of a crash (not to mention CAUSING a crash!). Is that the case? Or did the motorist just find a safe place to pull over, off camera?
Any idea if the bicyclist who got hit is pursuing charges?
Man that looked horrible, thank goodness the cyclist is ok. Very poor stupid driving, what an idiot, he needs to get the book thrown at him, stupid stupid stupid driving. :(
Looks like the scum was hoping the cyclist wouldn’t follow him as well. The driver needs knocking on his arse, to see if he thinks that’s trivial as well
Glad to see that the cyclist was ok. I had the same thing happen to me back in 1998 when a truck pulled out in front of me from a side road. I was on the main highway going home and the driver pulled out and the next thing I know I am laying on the ground screaming in pain. My leg, back and neck hurt. Back and neck were ok but a piece of my tibia plateau was broken off and had to have surgery. 4 days in hospital and 3 months on crutches. Physical therapy too. Huge settlement afterwards.
A completely moronic pull out imo. Lets hope his insurers at the very least cough up for any damage - but frankly it shouldnt be happening in the first place.
Stupid mistake by the driver but even more stupid not to return immediately to see if the person he knocked off was ok.
Did anyone else notice that the cyclist paid little attention to the car as it was waiting to pull out? I'd have been freewheeling and covering the brakes the instant I saw it.
@PeowPeowPeowLasers I dont know about u, but i did saw him stopping and turning to the left to pull over. You can see the brake lights, and then after a bit, the headlights on the left.
@CycleGaz Having looked at it, the lorry didn't conceal the rider from the driver or vice versa. It's possible the oncoming traffic did, but the reality of this crash was just a James Blunt in a car rushing and taking a stupid chance that no good driver would take.
Ouch, that was a seriously bad bit of driving, and it seems he did not stop at the scene. The cyclist will have to go to the police station and fill in their form to report it but he definitely should.
@eddbike Thought so, recognized the Merc garage and the Bookers C&C. My usual snagging point along there is knob jockeys racing up the small incline then swinging into the lane to head down to Ikea/Valley Park a bit further back from there. It's incredible how these drivers are willing to put someone else at risk just to save a few precious seconds on their journey!
That's really poor driving, and even worse that he didn't stop to exchange details. Please report to the police. Also stick his number plate on the YouTube title and tags. The shame of that is at least one consequence he needs to bear as a result of that.
That's a hit and run. He didn't understand the seriousness of the situation if he was concerned about getting into work after risking a man's life. The police should pay him a visit and make him understand what he'd done.
@TheLabRatt the driver, while apologetic, seemed mainly concerned about getting into work. He claimed he had to make a "split second call and it didn't sound that loud so I didn't think it was that bad."
@eddbike Bull. There would have been plenty of time to dash across like he did after you'd passed. He either didn't see the cyclist or didn't think about his speed, simple as that.
Glad to see he was back on his feet, that looked nasty but was that a hit and run, the driver seemed to stop and when the cyclist got back on back on his feet the driver was gone?
Looks like the driver knew he'd been in an accident as he'd stopped just before driving into the industrial estate then saw the injured party get up and then drove off.
@CyclingMikey It's the A23 in Croydon. I suspect it would be best off report it traffic officers via the written form, i suspect that is what road safe would say as well.
Oh damn. I'm glad, that guy is okay, it was shocking.

bloody chancers! happened to me last january,at least he got away lightly.

I think he just misjudged the distance, etc. Not really a police case I think (correct me if I am wrong).
I feel sorry for the cyclist, me myself got hit in the side, somewhere in September.
DreamAirlines 3 months ago
@DreamAirlines It's a classic case of 'Undue Care and Attention'.
There's more on the roads than just cars, and the cyclist was hardly invisible with the bright yellow jacket.

@PeowPeowPeowLasers I think his position behind the lorry didn't help, the view of the driver would have been a very late one.
CycleGaz 3 months ago
@CycleGaz I'm tempted to think that at the point the car moved out, the cyclist was looking at the road.
Either way, the driver's attitude (not stopping) was disgusting.

@CyclingMikey Either way, probably too hard to tell. No doubt about it being a chance that a good driver would not take.

Glad that you got the driver's details and the cyclist was ok. From the video, it seems that driver pause than took off.
Driver in an hurry.

@eddbike Maybe he missed the flourescent yellow jacket!!
Probably didn't help that the cars windows were heavily tinted either.
